When somebody hurts us , we normally want to get even or write that person off. But the Bible says , Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because [God] is kind to the un- grateful and wicked. Our Gr 7s have finished writing their exams and our mid-term break is a memory! We trust that all our girls had a good rest during mid-term.

We do know that our Saintees were very busy during mid-term with Nation-als!

What a wonderful event, with so many of our pupils, parents and staff mem-bers involved all week! We are so proud of our St Dominic’s Family. Once again

you proved that we are “One School, One Family, One Spirit”.

Our Saintees were placed third in Champion of Champions and our Saints First! Congratulations to Allan, Alisha, Jenna and all our Saintees and Saints !

We are very proud of you !

“Mercy is like a diamond: it is multi-faceted. If we learn how to be agents of mercy, it will transform our relationships.”

Continuing on with our 7 characteristics of Mercy

3. Mercy means giving people a second chance. When somebody hurts us , we normally want to get even or write that person off. But the Bible

says , “Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one anoth-er or curse each other or ever be rude. Instead, be kind and merciful, and

forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:31-32CEV)

4. Mercy means doing good to those who hurt you. Mercy is giving people what they need, not what they deserve . Why should we do it? Because that’s

what God does with you : ”Love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great,

and you will be children of the Most High, because [God] is kind to the un-grateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:35-

St Dom’S olD Girl makeS a SplaSh

Savannah Barman carries on making a splash!

Savannah Barman, a past pupil and swimming

captain here at St Dominic’s, has recently immi-

grated to the United Kingdom with her loving

family. Savannah has continued to train abroad

and has been really going the distance. Savannah

who recently swam her very first open water

(OW) swim in bitter cold (12 degrees) at the UK

Regional Championships came first in the girls

18 and under 5km, and ranking third overall,

swimming her best time yet. She has surprised

and made her family and friends proud as she

has now qualified for the OW Nationals in the

UK.

Barman has not only shocked the OW world but

she is rocking the pool too. Savannah has quali-

fied for the 200m Fly and 400m freestyle to be

swum at their British Summer Swimming Na-

tionals. Congratulations to this amazing young

lady. One big achievement after another!

Our Swimming Coach, going abroad.

Our very own swimming and water polo coach,

Wade Marshall, has made us proud once again as

he was selected as a Coach for the second time

to represent South Africa at the Junior FINA

Open Water Nationals, to be held in Mid-July

this year in the Netherlands. Wade will be

coaching ten talented 17 a/under swimmers

taking part in the 5km, 10km, 15km and relays.

Hein von Tonder being one of the swimmers,

selected for the first time, is trained personally

by Wade Marshall at Boksburg Aquatic Saints.

St. Dominics is very proud of Wade and this

achievement. Good Luck and all the best!

St. Dominic’s has enjoyed a successful netball season this year. Our netball players were committed and trained extremely hard. The girls participated in league matches as well as tournaments around Gauteng.

The U13A team competed in the Inter-Catholic Tournament held at Sacred Heart and were undefeated, achieving first place. They were also the champions in the Inter-Dominican Tournament at Veritas College, this tournament includes Dominican Schools from Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Free State. Congratulations ladies!!

The league results were just as impressive. Our teams all finished in the top 3 schools in their District Pool.

The A teams finishing in the top 2 teams were invited to the District Championship Finals. The U10 A and U12 A teams were cordially invited and did St. Dominic’s proud. After a riveting match versus Beaulieu; our U12A team won by one goal and made it through to the next round. The girls fought tooth and nail in anoth-er tight game against Holy Rosary, losing by 1 goal, as the whistle blew just before our shooter’s ball had left her hand. We were elated with the performance of our players.

The U10A team, played like real champions, winning all games but one, which pushed the players through to the final round. In this nail-biting last match against Redhill, our girls competed for 3rd place in the Gauteng Private Schools’ District. They won with a convincing 13-5 victory and held their heads high as they collect-ed their bronze medals in the prize giving.

We would like to congratulate all our players U9-13, A; B and C teams on a wonderful season.

We would also like to thank all our coaches very much for all their help, support, guidance and coaching this season, we really appreciate all your time and effort.

Religious retreats, run by the ladies from the Bible Foundation, at the beginning of June, are looked for-ward to with great anticipation.

Each Grade from 1 to 7 had a special day where their focus shifted from their normal routine and this in itself was exciting and refreshing.

The girls engaged in fun activities, reflections and learnt more about themselves, their classmates and about God.

This was a valuable experience in our children’s busy lives where they found inspiration and closeness to God.
