Proposed Trolley Route
About the Trolley and its operationsThe Trolley is owned and operated by Metro Bus. Metro Bus operates the public transit system in St. Cloud, Sartell, Sauk Rapids and Waite Park. It also operates the Northstar Link Commuter Bus between St. Cloud and Northstar rail station in Big Lake on behalf of the Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA).
The proposed schedule is based on when highest ridership is anticipated: 11 am - 7 pm Monday - Saturday, throughout the summer.
The route is designed to provide frequent service between Downtown and popular attractions (River’s Edge Convention Center, Lake George, SCSU, Munsinger and Clemens Gardens, Mississippi River and Riverside Park). The goal of the service is to provide another reason for people to take advantage of the fun things to see and do in Downtown.
The operating cost of $52,000 will be split between Metro Bus and sponsors secured by the St. Cloud Downtown Council. Some sponsorships may also come in the form of in-kind donations to help with promotions.
Additional Trolley service will be provided Wednesday nights between Downtown and the Summertime by George (SBG) event. The sponsorship of this service is garnered through the St. Cloud Rotary that plans SBG.
RidershipThe Trolley has been a wonderful addition to Rotary’s Summertime by George on Wednesday evenings June – August. Over 4,300 riders enjoyed the route looped between Downtown and Lake George.
Based on the 2004-2006 summer Trolley, we would expect ridership to be 20,000 and seen by an additional 100,000.
FeaturesThe nostalgic-looking Trolley features comfortable wooden seats and wood and brass trim inside. While the Trolley has a 1930s look, it is ADA compliant. A lift, located in the middle of the Trolley, is used to load people using wheelchairs.
Downtown Summer TrolleyThe purpose of the Trolley is to enhance St. Cloud’s Downtown as a destination by providing fun and easy transportation between shops, restaurants and nearby attractions. The goal is to extend a visitor’s stay for a meal, shopping or just a stroll. The Trolley makes it easy for visitors (and residents) to more easily explore the Downtown district, Munsigner/Clemens Gardens, Lake George and St. Cloud State University.
