Many thanks!
Those of you who are a little older and came to the
Catholic Faith as adults might have received your
education in the Faith in a variety of ways. One could
have been “personal instructions” with a parish priest;
another could have been attending a “Convert Class.”
I remember, as a young priest, offering both options.
For the last thirty years or so, those who are interested in
joining the Catholic Church usually participate in the Rite of
Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). RCIA is an eight month
experience. Here at St Charles, RCIA is held on Monday evenings
at 7:00pm, beginning in mid-September, and concluding on Holy
Saturday in April. Father Ryan Mann coordinates St Charles
RCIA. Evening sessions focus on prayer, beliefs of our Faith,
and Catholic practice and tradition. Throughout the eight month
RCIA journey, all the pastoral staff members offer various
presentations.
Who attends RCIA? Lots of nice folks! Some have been
married to a Catholic for a while and want to share their spouse’s
faith, others are planning marriage to a Catholic; some have been
baptized in other Christian faiths, some are not baptized; some
have had substantial training in another church; some have had
little or no experience of church. No commitment is expected
upfront; as Jesus once invited people “to come and see!” To
register, or just to find out more about RCIA, call Father Ryan at
440-884-3030. Please share this information with someone you
know who might be interested.
Our Adult Faith Coordinator, Brian Pelcin, begins his fifth
year with us this month. Brian met with me and shared the many
programs and activities that he will offer this year. As usual, they
all sound great. One, in particular, really stands out. This is a
DVD series by Jeff Cavins and Sarah Christmyer entitled
Unlocking the Mystery of the Bible. Each presentation lasts 75
minutes. Brian will offer this program on Tuesday mornings and
then repeat it on Wednesday evenings. Unlocking the Mystery
begins September 5/6 and will continue until October 24/25.
Details to follow in upcoming bulletins.
Karl Kaiser was a long-time faithful and active parishioner;
sadly, he died last year. He had served, for many years, as Chief
Usher at the former 10:30am Mass. Karl loved music; his father
taught piano in the old East Side St Timothy area and then in later
years here in Parma. Karl particularly enjoyed, he told me, “the
great music program we have at St Charles;” he spoke often, and
always in a complimentary way, about our many choirs and
musicians. Karl’s executor visited me recently and gave the
parish a $20,000 gift to be used to maintain “the excellent music
program at St Charles.” So here’s a Tip of the St Charles
Appreciation Hat to the memory of Karl Kaiser and a word of
thanks and appreciation to Tom Holzheimer, our Music Director,
and to all those who work with him, that prompted this generous
bequest.

Merici Chapel… We’re always making a list for
something, grocery shopping, kids going back to
school, going on vacation, planning a party, etc. On
one of those lists did you put “make a visit to the
chapel”? Why? Doesn’t that seem important? It
should come before all other things in life! Give it
some serious thought!!
