A Brother Who Sins. “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, so that ‘every fact may be established on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 'If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. Amen, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again, amen, I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything for which they are to pray, it shall be granted to them by my heavenly Father. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Matthew 18 15-20
In the final verses of today’s Gospel reading Jesus says that when two or three are gathered in his name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). So we understand that fraternal correction is always undertaken in the presence of Jesus Christ. Likewise, encouraging the good in others is not only the right thing for us to do, it is a necessity. The LORD tells the prophet Ezekiel that if he does not speak out to dissuade a person from evil, then he too will be held responsible. We live in a “do your own thing” age where moral objectivity is often ignored. Clearly when the message we share with others is rooted in love, our motives cannot ever be misinterpreted. As Saint Paul writes, “Love does no evil to the neighbor; hence, love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 13:10).

ANOINTING OF THE SICK
If you have a serious illness, are facing hospitalization and/or surgery, you should arrange to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, which should be celebrated before a sick person is unconscious, comatose or in the last stages of life. The Anointing is offered on Friday mornings, upon prior request, during the 7:25 AM Mass. If you or family members are unable to attend Mass,
Father will come to your home. Arrangements must be made beforehand for proper preparation. Please call the Parish Office at
A normal Sacrificial Giving Program is a 10% contribution to a charitable organization or church. St. Catherine's is asking for 4%.
Or, consider giving, as a minimum each week, your first hour's salary (or wage) in thanksgiving for the opportunities God has given us to work and produce for ourselves, our families and our communities. Another way to respond to God's generosity is to mention St. Catherine's in your will. Please give prayerful thought to supporting St. Catherine's in this way as well.
Canon Law stipulates that weddings are to take place in the Parish where either the bride, the groom, or their parents reside. In order to begin the Marriage Preparation Process, you must pick up A Guideline and Policy Booklet for Weddings from our Parish Office and read it thoroughly. Please understand that the marriage preparation in the Diocese of San Bernardino takes a minimum of 6 months and that a wedding date may not be set until specified criteria are met.

If you just registered and don't know what class you are in check the bulletin board. Confirmation: the next Confirmation 1 workshop on September 27th has a limited number of spaces available so sign up soon or you will need to attend on October 18. The deadline for registering for a Sacrament is September 28th. High School: Our theme this month for the program is "Created in His Image." Sophomores have snack next week! The first week of our special meal night will be October 5. Middle School: Our theme for this month is "All are Welcome." Feel free to stay and join in with your child any night! Boys have snack this week. The first week of our special meal night will be September 29.
Youth Aides Helping in the K-5 Program
If you have a 6th grade and older youth who would like to help out with our elementary classes, we love to have the extra hands. I will hold a formal classroom assignment meeting during the 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30 sessions on September 28th. Just come to the front of the social hall on time. Very important that you are on time. I will provide the necessary training, and give you a tour. Youth may help in any classroom they wish until the September 28th date. Please check in with Miss Letha Before going to a classroom to help. This is also very Important, as some of our classes do not need more Help His Peace be with you,

White Mass—2014 In honor of the Healthcare professionals, the Diocese will be having the 2014 White Mass celebration on October 19, 2014 At Christ the Redeemer Church, Grand Terrace. The Mass, to be presided by Most Reverend Gerald Barnes, will begin by 3:00 PM, Followed by an Award Reception/Dinner in the Church Hall by 5:00 PM. You are all cordially invited.
Blue Mass – 2014 The Thirteenth Annual Blue Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 24, 2014, 6:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 82450 Bliss Ave., Indio. Most Rev. Rutilio del Riego, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of San Bernardino, will be the principal celebrant. This event recognizes all those in public safety professions who dedicate their lives in the service and protection of others. Those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty will be honored. A ceremony in which badges will be blessed will also take place and there will be a reception following the Mass. All are invited to celebrate with fellow law enforcement officers, firefighters, and public safety personnel of all faiths from throughout the Diocese of San Bernardino (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties).

Attention All Catechists !
There will be a Commissioning and Blessing for all Catechists who missed it on September 7th on
Sunday, September 21st during the 6:00 PM Mass.
In the Creed, Immediately after professing our faith in the Holy Spirit, we say: “I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.” There is a profound connection between these two realities of faith: indeed it is the Holy Spirit who gives life to the Church, who guides her steps. Without the constant presence and action of he Holy Spirit the Church could not live and could not carry out the task that the Risen Jesus entrusted to her: to go and make discoples of all nations (cf.Mt 28:19). Evangelizing is the Church’s mission. It is not the mission of only a few, but it is mine, yours and our mission. The apostle Paul exclaimed: “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel!” (1 Cor 9:16). We must all be evangelizers, especially with our life!. Paul VI stressed that “Evangelizing is … the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. La fe, por su naturaleza, no está centrada en sí misma, la fe tiende a “salir fuera”. Quiere hacerse entender, da lugar al testimonio, genera la misión. En este sentido, la fe nos hace al mismo tiempo audaces y humildes en nuestro testimonio de esperanza y de amor. San Pedro nos dice que tenemos que estar dispuestos a dar razón de nuestra esperanza a quien nos lo pidiere (cf. 1 P 3,15). Nuestra identidad de cristianos consiste, en definitiva, en el compromiso de adorar sólo a Dios y amarnos mutuamente, de estar al servicio los unos de los otros y de mostrar mediante nuestro ejemplo no sólo lo que creemos sino también lo que esperamos y quién es Aquel en quien hemos puesto nuestra confianza (cf. 2 Tm 1,12). Ya que Cristo es nuestra vida (cf. Flp 1,21), hablemos de él y a partir de él, con decisión y sin miedo. La sencillez de su palabra se transparenta en la sencillez de nuestra vida, la sencillez de nuestro modo de hablar, la sencillez de nuestras obras de servicio y caridad con los hermanos y hermanas.

We know for certain that the sacrament of penance was a fairly rare event in the life of a Chris an in the early centuries, but that everyone had a duty to admit their sins and ask forgiveness before giving thanks in the Sunday Eucharist and receiving Christ’s Body and Blood at the table. Everyone today is familiar with this same ancient pa ern. We also know about Lent and its journey of renewal, and even those who are returning from summer vaca ons may speak of a fresh perspec ve on life and a resolve to do be er. Saint Augus ne spoke of a third kind of penance, beyond the turning of the catechumens to a different life, beyond the normal everyday fresh starts, to a form that is severe and serious. Certain sins broke faith with the community: the sinners were obliged to give their names to the bishop and were barred from par cipa on in the Eucharist. Augus ne men oned sacrilege, adultery, and murder as the culprits, great wounds for the perpetrator, wounds that were serious, deadly, mortal. Penance was such a frightening prospect that many people delayed their bap sm for fear that they would sin, a prac ce with which Augus ne was well acquainted.

Muchos católicos afroamericanos son miembros de los Caballeros de san Pedro Claver, organización fundada para ellos en 1909, cuando el racismo no les permi a par cipar en organizaciones euroes-tadounidenses. Esta organización toma su nombre de un jesuita español del siglo XVII, Pedro, quien llegó a Cartagena (Colombia) en 1610 y se escandalizó ante la trata de esclavos en el con nente americano. A pesar de censuras papales en contra de la esclavitud esta pecaminosa costumbre seguía robando humanidad a los africanos. Pedro se consagró al servicio de ellos, recibiéndolos con caridad, comida y alivio apenas llegaban en los barcos. Pedro no pudo liberar a los esclavos pero si se dedicó a servirlos y conver rlos. Él preparaba catequistas de entre los mismos africanos para que pudieran cris anizar a los recién llegados. Pedro Claver sufrió muchos insultos y calumni-as por reunir a los africanos en iglesias y en especial, por darles los sacramentos cris anos. Sus propios superiores, dejándose llevar por las crí cas de los criollos, lo cas gaban por el trabajo que hacía con los esclavos.
