During Lent, St. Brigid’s Primary School has focused on teaching students about Caritas and in particular, the global water projects provided by the monies collected during Lent to fund Project Compassion. We have all learnt about a young girl, called Thandolwayo, and seen the difficulties she faced in collecting water for her family before she started school every day. Learning to work in solidarity with these marginalised communities the students participated in the Walk for Water House Challenge on Thursday 28th March. During the Lenten season students have.....

learned easy ways to save water at home taught others learned about challenges faced by people around the world in relation to water shortages learned what solidarity means and looks like gathered sponsorship donations relayed buckets of water in Houses set fundraising goals completed an individual reflection experienced positive feelings by helping the earth and others

In addition, they completed these three parts to this challenge.

1. See how many laps each house completed with their buckets of water 2. How much water was in the buckets at the end of the relay 3. Counted and collected the money each house raised

Amount of laps completed

1st – Blue with 431 laps 2nd – Gold with 415 laps 3rd – Red with 372 laps

Thank you to everyone in our community for supporting us with

this challenge.

Amount of water remaining in buckets

1st – Gold had 12.75 litres 2nd – Blue had 11.25 litres 3rd – Red had no water (spilled 3 buckets)

Amount of money raised - $2,084.15

1st – Red $735.45 2nd – Blue $714.50 3rd – Gold $634.20

WOW KINGSTON 2019

Kingston City Council is inviting local schools to participate in the WOW Kingston (Walk/Wheel Once a Week) program for Term 2. WOW Kingston is a 6 week program that encourages primary school students to travel to school by more active modes and decrease car dependency. It also

improves road safety awareness and traffic conditions around the school.

Each school will nominate a day of the week on which to promote active travel and students will record their participation on a special class wall calendar throughout Term 2. At the conclusion of 6

weeks, the class that has walked and cycled the most will be presented with Council’s special Golden Boot Award to recognise their outstanding participation.

St Brigid’s walk to school day is going to be:

Wednesday’s for Week 2,3,4,5,6,7

Each classroom teacher will tally how many children walk/scoot/ride to school on each Wednesday and at the end of the 6 weeks we will tally each classrooms score to find out which class will win

the “Golden Boot” Award.

More information to follow.

Safe Routes to School

Hi again, Public Relations team here. We’re here to tell you about tip #2 on road safety. Do you remember the childhood chant your parents taught you to help you cross the road? Well St. Brigid’s are here to bring it back. S.L.L.T. Which means Stop, Look, Listen, Think. Always do this before you cross the road to ensure that you get to your destination safely. Remember to also take a step back from the curb so you are not too close to the road.

Kind regards Milla, Lulu, Emma, Mitchell, Alessia and Lucinda.

St Brigid’s News and Events

Three weeks ago the Liturgy and Social Justice Leaders went with the St Louis Faith and Social Justice Leaders to St Patricks Cathedral. We went to the Cathedral to celebrate Catholic Education Week Mass. There were about 300 schools attending Mass which meant that it was very crowded at the Cathedral! After the Mass all of the schools went down to the park and had a picnic. We watched a concert with music played by two secondary schools. Overall, we really enjoyed the experience and had a super fun time. Hannah F
