St. Bridget, St. Stanislaus Kostka, Sacred Heart Cemetery: The cemetery located on Main Street opposite St. Stanislaus Kostka Church is situated on more than ten acres in a lovely, quiet, tree-lined neighborhood. The tranquility is enhanced by majestic pine trees and monuments dating back to the mid-nineteenth century. Our primary goal is to carry out the sacred religious functions of burial and care for the resting places of the deceased.

The Catholic Church regards the burying of the dead as a deep spiritual significance and a Corporal Work of Mercy. Our cemetery has been serving the West Rutland area for more than 150 years. It was consecrated in May 1865 by Bishop Louis DeGoesbriand, the first Bishop of Burlington, and is one of the old-est, active Catholic cemeteries in the diocese.

The Most Holy Trinity

The week begins with Trinity Sunday, which al-ways follows a week after Pentecost. It celebrates the un-knowable relationship between the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit - and their loving support for us in our lives. “I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now. But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth.”

On Thursday, most of the world will celebrate The Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), on the traditional Thursday after Trinty Sunday. In the US, Thursday is the Memorial of Saint Philip Neri, Priest and The Body and Blood of Christ is celebrated next Sunday.

During the week, we resume reading Mark's Gos-pel where we left it when Lent began. It offers us sto-ries about sacrificing part of ourselves. We hear of the Rich Young Man: “Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” At that statement, his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many posses-sions. Peter tells Jesus, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus responds, “there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel who will not receive a hun-dred times more.” When the disciples squabble over who will sit in glory with Jesus, he tells them, “the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Bartimae-us, a blind man recognizes Jesus as “Son of David” and is healed. Bartimaeus follows Jesus. Jesus drives money changers out of the Temple saying, “My house shall be called a house of prayer ... but you have made it a den of thieves.” We end the week with Je-sus evading the trickery of the chief priests who ask him “by what authority are you doing these things?” In the US, Sunday is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Luke's gospel is the miracle of the Loaves and Fishes. Most of the rest of the world celebrates the Ninth Sunday of Ordinary Time and Luke's Gospel tells us about the healing of the Centurion's slave. Financial Statement Summary

Both churches weekly offerings were below budget in the third quarter. St. Bridget had an income shortfall of $3,177.51 while St. Stanislaus was over budget in income by $3,726.06 due to better than projected donations and other regular income (which includes fundraisers and cemetery income). For both churches expenses were less than budgeted. Compensation and benefits were under budget as well as utilities. A mild winter and low fuel costs helped us this year. Many thanks to you all for your continued support of our parishes.

Vermont Irish Rebels Commemoration

On Sunday, May 22, 2016 there will be a Commemo-ration of the 150th anniversary of the Fenian attacks in Canada in 1866, the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising in Ireland, 1916 and the Marble Valley's unique contributions to Irish-American and Civil War histo-ry. At 1 pm there will be a graveside ceremony (free to all) in St. Bridget cemetery for Lt. John Sinnott, decorated Civil War veteran. From 2 pm - 6 pm a concert will be give at the West Rutland Town Hall. Tickets are $10, 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online and at the door.
