each of our Christmas liturgies. May the booklet enhance your Christmas
season . Fr. Brian
Dear Parishioners, "Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste." What was the rush? Why did Mary go so quickly to visit her cousins Elizabeth and Zechariah? It's hard to know exactly what her purpose was, but one thing is clear: Mary and Elizabeth shared a special connec-tion. Perhaps Mary was anxious to be in the company of someone who could understand her unusual situation.
At this point, Mary was newly pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit. The verses preceding today's reading tell us about the ap-pearance of the Angel Gabriel and Mary's willingness to become the mother of the Messiah. Now, this child was already growing within her womb, but the whole thing was an incredible secret. Who would believe her? In whom could Mary confide the unbelievable events that had taken place? We know that at some point later, Joseph had a vision in a dream that allowed him to understand. But before that dream came, he was planning to part ways with Mary. It must have been during that difficult time that Mary went to see Eliz-abeth. And what joy that upon her arrival, Elizabeth immediately understood. "Blessed is the fruit of your womb," Elizabeth cried out. The same Holy Spirit who conceived Jesus in Mary's womb en-lightened Elizabeth at this moment. What a consolation this must have been to Mary.
This story reminds us of the importance of our own fellowship in the faith. Sharing our spiritual journey with other believers who are receptive to the Holy Spirit is meant to be a source of en-couragement and strength. We are not supposed to be in this alone. As we worship and celebrate togeth-er with our faith community, may we share with each other the real joy of this sacred season.
Yours in Christ
Fr. Brian
Fr. Brian and staff wish God’s blessings
for all our parishioners, families, friends,
and visitors on this Christmas and
throughout the coming year.
Have a blessed, safe, healthy and
peaceful New Year.

FOLLOW US IN ROME!
On behalf of all the Pueri Cantores families, I would like to give a big THANK YOU to all the parishioners of St. Bernard’s for all your generosity over the past couple years as we raised money
for our trip to Rome. We raised over $90,000 and this was enough to help all the families realize their goal of making this
amazing trip. We couldn’t have done it without you and we hope to make you proud as we represent St. Bernard’s and Arizona as
we sing for Pope Francis on Dec. 31 and New Year’s Day at the Vatican!
We will be posting pictures and videos on our FaceBook page on Dec. 26 at Sky Harbor, throughout all events and tours and
culminating with His Holiness’ Angelus address in St. Peter’s Square on Jan. 1. If you’d like to see these memories as they’re
made, simply pull up our page on Facebook: Pueri Cantores - St. Bernard of Clairvaux and “like” us and you’ll get
up-to-the-minute developments
Finally, we do ask everyone for one more thing - your prayers. The events in France and Europe over the past few weeks have weighed heavily on our families. However, we are undeterred - as I told the children recently, “Jesus tells us do not be afraid, and will not be afraid. At the same time, Jesus also says to be alert and keep watch. We go to Rome with a joyful spirit, but also with a prayerful one as we pray for peace with the Holy
Father and New Year’s Day.” Thanks for being a part of our amazing experience.
God bless, Kent Campbell, Director of Music

The Society of St. Vincent You Deserve Some Credit for Helping SVdP Help Others. The Arizona Income Tax Credit for Contributions to Qualifying Charitable Organi-zations for the working poor (also known as the working poor credit) entitles you to reduce
your Arizona income tax dollar for dollar for contributions to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Joint income tax filers can obtain up to $400 in reduced AZ income taxes (for single filers the
amount is $200). You do not need to itemize to obtain the credit. When you make a cash dona-
tion to SVdP through this special appeal or in regular Church envelopes in 2015, you will
receive a letter by next February from the Vincentians of SVdP at St. Bernard of Clairvaux
Conference. This letter will serve as your receipt and verification that you have made the contri-
bution to enable you to complete AZ form 321 to file with your 2015 AZ Income Tax Return.
Your Contributions Help People The Vincentians of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Conference serve persons substantially all of whom
live within the Parish boundaries. SVdP provides resources to people including helping them
feed their families, obtain medicines, access transportation, avoid evictions and prevent utility shut-offs. These resources are not just financial but referrals to other agencies that also provide
help with medical, legal, financial, employment and other essentials. The Vincentians also pray
with the people in their time of need asking for God’s blessings for them and those who support
SVdP.
Other Credits The working poor credit is in addition to other credits for Arizona income tax filers. For exam-
ple, you can also claim credits for cash contributions for private school tuition and public school
extracurricular activities. Several other charitable organizations qualify as donees for the work-
ing poor tax credit and all such contributions must be aggregated in calculating the credit.
Making a Donation to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Please make your check payable to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul and mail it to SVdP, St. Bernard of Clairvaux Conference, 10755 N 124th St, Scottsdale AZ 85259 along with the infor-
mation below.

The Vincentians of St. Bernard of Clairvaux thank you for your support:
Food Drive, November 21 and 22- You donated 657 bags of food and paper goods for the pantry at St. Catherine of Sienna. This is the highest number of bags that we have
ever received for this annual event.
Turkey Tuesday at Basha’s, November 24- You donated 399 frozen turkeys and 45
food bags (including several hams) for us to prepare food boxes for people living in
our parish and for the pantries of St. Catherine of Sienna, St. Mark and the SVdP food reclamation center. These donations also were the highest that we have ever received..
Cash- We had nearly exhausted our bank account at the time of the food drive. But you came through again with donations during the food drive, the Turkey Tuesday event,
utilizing the working poor credit and collections at Masses the weekend of November 28-29. We now have sufficient cash to allow us to help others through January.
The Vincentians are grateful for your continued generous help to allow us to help others.
