  • P AS T O R ’ S N O T E What do I do with my palms? Is a question a lot of us ask this time of year. Practically speaking, you are invited to bring your old palms to church with you next Sunday and somehow the staff and I will burn them and use them for next year’s ashes. You may also save them and burn them yourself at your next fireplace fire or bonfire. Nothing else is required after you burn them. More metaphorically, however, what did the first Christians do with their palms? They waved them in the air and laid them down at the feet of Jesus as a sign of reverence, acknowledgement, and welcome of Him as their Savior. We still display the palms in workplaces, homes, cars etc. as a symbol of the same realities. And so more important than what shapes we fold palms into, (though I love to see all the palm origami this time of year!) is, “Why do I do what I do with my palms?” In the words of C.S. Lewis, either Jesus is who he says he is or he is not. And if He is, He deserves nothing less than that we surrender every aspect of our lives to Him and truly call him “Lord.” Two more weeks of Lent to go! What are some other parts of our lives that Jesus can be Lord of? – Father Chris

POSTURE DURING THE LITURGY Beginning Divine

Mercy Sunday, every parish in the Diocese will be changing the Communion Rite posture to reflect the original policy of the Diocese, first established in 2003. We will remain standing after the Lamb of God, throughout the distribution and reception of Holy Communion and the singing of the Communion Hymn, until the end of the distribution of Holy Communion. Once the last person has received the Eucharist and the Communion Hymn ends, we may kneel or sit for private prayer. – Bishop Nelson J. Pérez
