Mass Intentions Update

For those parishioners who have scheduled

Mass intentions from March 18, 2020, through

the end of April, the office will reschedule your

intentions once the Church is reopened. We

are keeping track of those Intentions which

need to be rescheduled.

The original date for scheduling Mass

intentions for 2021 was Wednesday, May 6th.

This may also be changed to a future date.

Please watch the bulletin for any future

updates.

Summer PSR Update

For Families with Children currently

in Grades 3rd through 7th

Summer PSR 2020 was scheduled for June

15, 2020 – June 26, 2020.

However, at this point with the ever-

changing information coming from the

CDC and government officials, in all

likelihood, Summer PSR 2020 will at best

be postponed until later in the summer.

We will NOT be completing registrations

for Summer PSR 2020 at this time. As

soon as we have a better idea of when we

can safely schedule Summer PSR, the PSR

families will be contacted.

COVID-19: A PRAYER FOR

SOLIDARITY

For all who have contracted

coronavirus,

We pray for healing.

For those who are particularly vulnerable,

Food Collection. Most needed items are:

Peanut butter/jelly, canned fruit, vegetables

and cereal.

The Food Pantry Collection will be held for

one day only on April 26 from 9 a.m. to

Noon. Grocery bags filled with non-perishable

food can be dropped off at the Annex Garage

(Former Convent). Please do not drop off the

grocery bags before April 26. Do not drop off

the grocery bags anywhere on the parish

grounds other than the Annex garage. For

everyone’s safety, please do not drop off the

grocery bags if you’re not feeling well, practice

social distancing, and wear gloves if possible

when dropping off the grocery bags.

I Can Do That

“As stewards of God’s creation, we

are called to make the earth a beautiful garden for the human family. When we destroy our

forests, ravage our soil and pollute our seas, we betray that noble calling. . . .” -Pope Francis

Garbage does not readily decompose or enrich the

soil inside landfills because modern landfills are

airtight sealing out the oxygen that is needed by

bacteria. You can turn your food and yard waste

into black gold that will feed your vegetable and

flower gardens. Using a composter also reduces

methane emissions produced by landfills. If you

are concerned about attracting critters, many styles

of compost containers are designed to discourage

unwanted guests. There are many online sources

of information on how to compost. You can

purchase indoor composters and worm farms if

you do not have a place for outdoor composting.

You may also discover that your friends have

compost piles and welcome clean contributions.

Healthy soil sustains life.

and Communion for

the Homebound

If you or a friend or

loved one is homebound

or in the hospital and would like to receive Holy

Communion or be Anointed, please call the parish office.

You can also call the parish office with names of

parishioners to be added to the prayer list. We do have a

special prayer service for those who are ill at 7:00 a.m.

each Wednesday morning in Church. Please join us

to pray for the sick.


An Easter Thank You from Father John

Dear St. Basil family,

I just want to say thank you to everyone in our parish for their steadfast

support, kind words, and willingness to go along with the safety

protocols during this most unusual time in our lifetimes (let alone the life

of the church!). None of us was expecting that we would have to close

the church during a once-in-100-years pandemic. But it happened, and it

is what it is.

In every challenging time there are always new insights into faith, and

opportunities for growth in discipleship. I have witnessed many step

forward to volunteer with the food pantry, to write cards and letters to the homebound, to drop

off donations, and in general to help make the lives of their families and neighbors more bearable

during this time of isolation and anxiety. These actions have really inspired my faith and

energized my priesthood, along with all your prayers and words of support! Thank you! May

the victory of God’s love and the breaking-through of new life we celebrate every Easter be

especially yours this Easter Season! I’m hoping and praying we can gather again soon!

Below are two prayers I find very helpful:

Thomas Merton’s Prayer

My Lord God,

I have no idea where I am going.

I do not see the road ahead of me.

I cannot know for certain where it will end,

nor do I really know myself;

and the fact that I think I am following your will

does not mean that I am actually doing so.

But I believe that the desire to please you

does in fact please you.

And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing.

I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.

And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road,

though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore will I trust you always,

though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.

I will not fear, for you are ever with me,

and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. Amen.

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to

you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of Your People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as

in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by

Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the

cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we

who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
