Parish Mission Statement

St. Barbara Parish carries on the faith tradition estab-lished in 1894 by our Slovenian and German ancestors. Like our founders, we are called by Baptism to live as ex-amples of Catholic faith and values, and as witnesses of Christ in the world. Our parish is small in size but great in heart. We are a diverse community who together seek to strengthen faith through liturgy and education, and through service to community in charity. We strive to love God with all our hearts and minds.

Pray for the Sick

Pray for the sick of our parish, our family and friends, especially Leslie Joyce, Andrea Lit-tlejohn, Elizabeth McKeever, Elaine Fields, Joan Crum, Geoff Skundrich, Karen Recrosio, Gloria Fortunato, Edna Koczaja, John Pulford, Mary Rosato, Ann Mary Mazzocco, Kathy D’Amico, Sophie Kramzer, and those in nursing homes and their caregivers; the return of inactive mem-bers of our parish to the practice of their faith; the re-spect of all human life and the end of abortions. We pray for the safety of our troops, their safe return and for their families at home. Call the rectory office if you are homebound or in a nursing home and would like to receive Communion or if you are a patient in a hospital and would like a visit from a priest, please call 412.221.5152.

PRECIOUS BLOOD On this solemnity we focus our attention on the Body and Blood of Christ. We listen to the story of the renewal of the old covenant, which Moses sealed by splashing the blood of animals on the altar of sacrifice, as well as on the people. Jesus, whose blood is the blood of the new covenant, shed that precious blood on the cross, saving us from sin and promising us everlasting life. Blood is the life source that courses through our bodies. The precious blood of Christ is the life source for our spirits. Today may we, like the psalmist, offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Lord, whose Body and Blood strengthen us to bring the Good News to everyone we meet. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you (Exodus 24:3-8). Psalm — I will take the cup of salvation, and call on the name of the Lord (Psalm 116). Second Reading — Christ is the mediator of a new covenant (Hebrews 9:11-15). Gospel — This is my body. This is my blood of the covenant (Mark 14:12-16, 22-26). The Body and Blood of Christ Faith has many important facets that are effective in our lives. Prayer and worship connect us to the God who created us and who daily gives us purpose and provides for us. Times of communi-ty and fellowship unite us with our family in faith to realize that we are not alone on our journey of love with God. Outreach and charity put our faith into action so that we can be the hands and heart of Je-sus in the world and provide for the needs of oth-ers. Yet, at the heart of our faith, its essential foun-dation, is the gift of God himself to his people, the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the memorial of God’s great act of love for us, the death and resurrection of his Son, Jesus. The Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ made truly present so that we might be nourished to do the work of God in the world. The Eucharist is the source of our life as people of faith and that to which we return all that we have received in thanksgiving to God. Inspired by this Feast of Corpus Christi and as we journey On Mis-sion for The Church Alive! may our love for the Eu-charist increase so that our faith may remain strong in the midst of change.
