From the Director
Greetings from Boston! We have collectively achievedsignificant milestones as educatorsthis past year. The Partners inDevelopment cohort that diligentlyassisted us in piloting the 2011–2012 courses joined the inauguralclass in the fall of 2012.
The Institute’s 2013 Commencement Ceremonies in Maywere punctuated by our new presence. We welcomedhome the HPEd community in the June ConvocationSeminar, where current scholars convened andgraduates celebrated their accomplishments. It is our hope that this annual seminar will become ahome for returning scholars as our community grows. And now we are welcoming thirteen new scholars oncampus in a few weeks. Congratulations to our firstgraduates, and welcome to the 2013 cohort! Deb Navedo, Director [email protected]
The First Scholars
Partners in Development Cohort: The Partners inDevelopment cohort comprised 19 scholars who joinedus during the 2011–2012 academic year to pilot the twoon-campus seminars as well as the research methodsand technology courses. These champions of innovationare pictured above at the 2012 Convocation Seminar, including Dr. Tham Kum Ying, who brought 10 scholarsfrom Singapore’s Tan Toch Seng Hospital and theNational Health Group.
2012 Program Launch
In September, 2012, 10 scholars were welcomed as newmembers of the initial class. Arriving from across thenation and pictured here with Dr. James Gordon of MGHLearning Laboratory, this group quickly coalesced andembraced their professional diversity. The students'backgrounds include medicine, pharmacy, physicaltherapy, business, and psychology. This program attracted scholars from various mid-careerpositions, many of whom were already in leadershippositions seeking to formalize their mastery ofeducational principles. About 92 percent came to theprogram through the Harvard Macy Institutecollaboration. Completing their studies with Dr. LizArmstrong and her faculty, the scholars have reportedfinding the Master of Science in Health ProfessionsEducation degree a logical next step, reporting that theHPEd Program was philosophically aligned with theHarvard Macy Institute.
