Funeral Team: An information session for all funeral team members, both current and prospective, will be held at McGrath Funeral Home Mylne St on Wednesday, May 18th commencing 12 midday. A light lunch will be provided. RSVP Monday, May 16th.

Prayer Corner:

As we celebrate and spoil our own mothers this Sunday, let’s also pause together to pray for the mothers of people who

are in detention, particularly people on Manus Island at this time of great uncertainty. Most of us know how worried

and anxious our mums can get!

Mothers and families – who may be across the other side of the world – are the forgotten victims of detention. The

uncertainty of knowing when your child will we be free, or safe, or healthy is a

debilitating burden to bear.

A PRAYER FOR THE MOTHERS OF PEOPLE IN AUSTRALIA’S OFFSHORE

DETENTION CENTRES

Creator God,

Who was with the Mother of Moses as she suffered the loss of her missing child,

Who was with the Mother of Jesus as they fled together through the desert,

And who loves the mothers of the young men who have been treated so cruelly on Manus,

See the fears they carry in their bodies,

See them tossing in their sleep.

Creator of Justice and Mercy,

Who inspires in the heart of every person a desire to be good,

Who weeps about the violence of our collective sins,

And who loves our politicians who are responsible for those young men.

See the fears they carry in their bodies,

See them tossing in their sleep.

Creator of Community,

Who is the embodiment of perfect community,

Who challenges everyone to love their neighbour and their enemy.

And who invites everyone to eat together at the table,

Grant us the vision to see all those mothers who are not in front of us today,

Grant us with courage to welcome the stranger.

*** Social Justice News ***

Social Justice Thought for the Week:

Peace is not merely the absence of war. Nor can it be reduced solely to the maintenance of a balance of power between enemies. Nor is it brought about by dictatorship. Instead, it is rightly and appropriately called 'an enterprise of justice' (Is. 32:7). Peace results from that harmony built into human society by its divine founder, and actualized by men as they thirst after ever greater justice. Second Vatican Council, Gaudium et Spes, #78

Laurie Reedy Fund A big thank you to all those who continue to help St Anthony’s reach out to the needy in our area. The Vincent de Paul provides wonderful assistance as well but sometimes is unable to provide support in certain immediate situations. In the past 3 months, the Laurie Reedy fund has provided emergency food to single mothers with children, fuel needed to travel for compassionate reasons, funding for work application support, and rental support. The gratitude and relief that is shown by our sisters and brothers helped in this way brings to heart and mind the words of Jesus “there is more happiness in giving than receiving.” Thank you also to those who regularly bring food to the Parish Centre for emergency support. (The Social Justice Group)

Biggest Morning Tea 2016: The Parish and School will come together to host this year’s Biggest Morning Tea on Sunday, May 15th at 9.45am in the School hall – directly after Mass (No morning tea at Parish). If you are able to assist with prizes or help out on the day please let the office know. If you have any empty Moccona coffee jars can you please leave them at the office. Volunteers are needed to assist with setting up, during morning tea and clean-up afterwards, please let us know if you can assist. Thanks

“The Gospel calls on us and asks us to be the neighbour of the smallest and the most abandoned, to give them concrete hope”. Pope Francis. Project Compassion:

Please try to return Project Compassion monies as soon as possible so it can be forwarded on. Thanks for your support.

Mother’s Day Blessing

May Mary, who knows the joys and sorrows of Motherhood, be a guide for

your life.

May our Father bless you for the care and loving support given over the

years.

May Jesus bring you peace of heart for soothing spirit in times of trouble and

failure.

May the Spirit give you the inner joy for healing wounds and wiping away

tears.

And may God’s choicest blessings and deepest love be shown to you through

the loving embrace of family.

St. Anthony’s School Newsletter

“Lighting Pathways for life….”

Hello Parents and Caregivers The school has experienced a significant issue with after school pick - up. Two children were picked up at 4.05 pm and then another child was not picked up until 4.45pm. The supervising teacher on duty found it necessary to make alternative pick up arrangements for their

own children. The school endeavoured to contact the parents to no avail. The weather at this time of day was quite cool and the children in question had no idea what their after school pick up plans were and who was picking them up. In response to this recent development the school has approached PCYC After School Care and they have agreed to accept any child remaining at school after duty ends at 3.25pm. This is a question of safety and supervision. This will mean that families will be charged a minimum of an hour of care. This transaction will be between After School Care and the parent. Asking our teachers or office staff to remain responsible for students after duty has expired is unacceptable and certainly unreasonable. If you are late picking your child up, at 3.25pm, your child will become the responsibility of After School Care. Naturally this service will attract additional costs. On arrival at After School Care your child will be offered food and games to play until you arrive. Your child will be in a safe and supervised environment. Your child's safety is our ultimate concern. This is why this process has become necessary. Thank you to parents who ring to let us know they are running late. This reassures your child. Paul
