T S of Advent
December 13, 2020

Dear Friends,
We are almost there! Over halfway through the Advent season and the priests are clothed in Rose. You
may have seen the shirt that says, “Real men wear pink.” I was gifted with a shirt that says that, but men is
crossed out and priests substituted and the same with pink which is crossed out and replaced with rose.
Then in parentheses below it reads (Twice a year.) As we near the greatest celebrations on the Christian
calendar (Easter and Christmas), the Church is filled with anticipation and uses the rose color to signify the
happiness and joy that is associated with the coming feasts.
In the last year, I have been blessed to anticipate many little ones who have come into this world. Two of
them for whom I became the Godfather. It has been a joy to see the anticipation of these young couples,
some new parents, others not so new. There is a difference between the first child and the third. In the case
of all the new parents that have welcomed their first child this year, the child is the new center of attention.
There is a palpable shift in their lives. Things that were important, might not be so much anymore. And in
the midst of a world that is full of anxiety and fear, there is so much peace looking into the eyes of an in-
fant.
Those who have welcomed a child in the last 9 months know that the process now is much different than it
was before. There is no one else at the hospital. Only one person is allowed to be with the mother in the
delivery room. Visits are not an option. There is a solitude that must have been part of what Joseph and
Mary would have experienced as well. Just them and the animals in the stable until the shepherds arrived
to adore the newborn King. There is concern and anxiety going into the hospital, and yet there was no
room for Joseph and Mary to welcome their child in any sort of “normal” situation. No matter. Mary and
Joseph are confident and at peace. It is only fitting that Jesus should be born this way. The Bread of An-
gels comes down to us and is placed in the manger, the feeding trough of the animals, foreshadowing that
He would become our heavenly food in the Eucharist.
“Rejoice always!” St. Paul says to us this Sunday. Always. Even in the midst of our trials and especially
as we accompany others with compassion. Although we are suffering with them, we know we are not
alone. Jesus has come to us, Emmanuel. He has suffered greatly on our behalf. From the time of His birth
He was a man of sorrows, rejected by His own. Yet, there is peace. Peer into the cave. See the beautiful
child. He is our peace. He is our joy.
Our anticipation has hit a peak and we are longing for the day when He will arrive. We know the joy of the
encounter because we have been here before. What are the final preparations that need to be made in your
heart to welcome the One for whom your heart longs?
In the joy of His Most Sacred Heart,

November Report from your Finance Council…….
The Finance Council met virtually November 18th to discuss various Finance topics. An update was given
on the number of families turning in their stewardship pledges which through the end of November was sig-
nificantly lower compared to last year. It is a very difficult time right now for many families but for those
that are in a position to make a pledge, we ask that you prayerfully consider doing so.

The parish along with the Archdiocese of Seattle is looking into various grants that can provide us additional
monies to support our parish and programs. We will update you if any comes to fruition. The parish is also
looking into financial education programs thatcan help parishioners with their daily finances.

If you are interested in joining the Finance Council, or know of anyone who is interested, please contact the
parish office at 4252553132.

Freedom and Hope
In the summer, a young man came to us because he had just been released from jail after
serving his time. He didn’t want to return to the people and places of his previous life.
We were able to provide a list of resources, including companies willing to hire excons.
He had almost nothing, and was grateful for a voucher to buy a tent, sleeping bag, and
some food. He was so excited for his freedom and had hope for a better future. Help us
offer hope. Join Saint Vincent de Paul. Contact Judy at [email protected].
