Gospel Summary Jesus taught his listeners that some values in God's Kingdom will be the opposite of what they are in our earthly society. Those with no power or material possessions, but who trust com-pletely in God will be first in the Kingdom of God. But people who value the luxuries of this world will be last in the Kingdom.

Reflection for Families Children trust their parents to take good care of them and give them direction. That's a lot of responsibility for a parent. Similarly, we all are challenged by these beatitudes to trust completely in God. When we trust and serve God, we know clearly from this reading that God will take care of us in the Kingdom.

Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family Read the Beatitudes carefully again as a family. Suggest ways that people might be "poor" that don't relate to economic class. What ways can people be hungry and still have enough food to eat? What kind of sorrow would we experience without God in our lives?

Message from the desk of the Pastor

My dear people of God,

Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose hope is in the Lord.

Faith in the power of the Resurrection gives way to a righteous and fruitful life eternal. Trusting in the Lord, and striving to live the beati-tudes on our everyday lives, yields much fruit.

In the first reading, trusting in the Lord brings a refreshing life of abundance. Saint Paul, in the second reading, says that Christ’s resurrection brings life to all who believe. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches the Beatitudes.

The Beatitudes are the heart of Jesus’s preaching. They tell us to love our enemies and love our neighbor. At the core of the sermon is Jesus’ teaching on love. This love is characterized by forgiveness and generosity. These are characteristic of the Christian life. They offer us hope in the midst of trials and tests. And they show us what is already ours by virtue of our salvation through Christ. They help us to see the fullness of our lives as God designs it. According to the catechism, “The Beatitudes respond to the natural desire for happiness. This desire is of divine origin: God has placed it in the human heart in order to draw man to the One who alone can fulfill it” (1718).

Are we blessed? Do we hope in the Lord? What do we hope for in life? St. Paul in the second reading preaches that the Christian can hope only in the resurrected Christ. The Christian centers his life around the death and resurrection of the Messiah.

In our own daily lives, if Christ truly lives in us, we live in him as members of his Body. His death and resurrection are our own, if they are our hope. Of course, most of us have no difficulty hoping for resurrection in our lives, but can we hope to share in his suffering as well? We may grow used to accepting suffering as a natural part of life, but can we prayerfully hope for it?

The only thing Jesus ever hoped for in life was to do the Will of his Father. And the Will of his Father was for him to die on the Cross.

May God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Fr. Joseph

Love yourself… enough to take actions required for your happiness… Enough to cut yourself loose from the drama-filled past… Enough to set a high standard for relationships… Enough to feed your mind and body in a

healthy manner… Enough to forgive yourself… Enough to move on… -Dr. Steve Maraboli

In this world today and all of societies' "standards," some people may find it difficult to love their self for who they are because they are focusing more on wishing they were a totally different person. A few people even compare themselves to another individual. Are we truly loving ourselves when we do that? No, we definitely aren't. Did you know that some people also edit their images to make them look like a totally different person?? Yep, you're wishing for something that can't be achieved. I ask that you take a minute and think about what it means to genuinely love yourself. There are so many ways to genuinely love your-self, but here are a few I found to help me: put on a flattering outfit that makes you feel confident, surround yourself with people who are positive, and take a break from social media. You should love yourself because God loves every inch of you. Please listen to “Beautiful” by MercyMe."You're beautiful. You're beautiful. In His eyes, you're beautiful. You were meant for so much more than all of this.” Kylie

Please Pray for Priests

Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5) May your priest have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priest be holy, filled with the fire of your love seek-ing nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen.

St. John Vianney, pray for us.
