Family Cooking at the Light House Shelter

Family cooking for the Light House Shelter took

place on Monday, May 15. We had 6 teenagers

prepare the entire meal! We cooked sausage and

chicken jambalaya – two batches – one spicy and

one mild, baked homemade cornbread pudding

squares using my grandmother’s recipe, and

baked brownies. Our side was a colorful and

flavorful salad. A huge thanks to our crew of

volunteers: Abby, Amber, Diana, Jessica, Kara,

and Marissa. They worked hard – it was a full 2

hours of prepping and cooking – and they did a

super job. Family Light House Shelter is a great

community service project for our youth. The

residents raved about how good everything was –

so many came up for seconds - and six batches of

warm brownies disappeared very fast!

Family cooking at the Light House Shelter is held

the 3rd Monday of each month. We are always

looking for volunteer families to come prepare,

cook, and serve a meal for approximately 60

residents. This is a wonderful opportunity for the

whole family to volunteer together and lovingly

serve our community. Children 11 years old and

over are welcome to participate in family cooking.

Each month we need 2-3 families to prepare a

main course, side dishes, and dessert.

Signing up for St. Anne’s family cooking at the

Light House Shelter is now easier than ever – I’ve

moved to using SignUpGenius to help with

managing and scheduling. The link to sign up is

Ordination of Deacons

On Saturday, June 10, The Right Reverend Chilton

R. Knudsen ordained our own Jo Marie Leslie and

Corby Zeren to the Sacred Order of Deacons.

Join us for the Holy Eucharist on Saturday, June

10 at 5:30 PM when Corby will serve as our

deacon. A reception will be held in Corby's honor

following the service. All are welcome. Corby has

been assigned to serve as deacon at St. Andrew's

Episcopal Church in Pasadena, MD, where she has

been doing an internship.

Join us for any of our Eucharists on Sunday, June

11, when Jo Marie will serve as deacon. A

reception will be held in Jo Marie's honor following

the 11:15 AM service. All are welcome. Jo Marie

has been assigned to serve as a deacon at St.

Anne's until July 31, when William Bell, her

husband, retires. After some vacation time, Jo

Marie will serve as deacon at Church of the Holy

Comforter in Lutherville, MD.

With the ordinations of Corby and Jo Marie, three

of St. Anne's members will have been ordained

this year to serve the larger church (Pan Conrad

was ordained to the transitional diaconate in

January. In June, she will become Deacon in

Charge of St. Alban's Church in Glen Burnie). In

addition, member Paula Waite is a postulant for

the diaconate, potentially being ready for

ordination in 2018.

Kirkin' o' the Tartans

On June 11 at the 9:30 service, a bagpipes and

drums band, accompanied by banner and flag

carriers, and sponsored by The St. Andrews

Society of Baltimore, will participate in the annual

'Kirkin' (blessing, or literally, "churching") o' the

Tartans ceremony at St. Anne's. Tartans are

woven plaid fabrics, with colors and stripes

arranged in a distinct pattern to represent a

particular Scottish clan. During the service,

tartans are brought to the altar for a blessing, and

the bagpipe band plays in the church.

Environmental Ministry

Eleven environmental non-profits in Anne Arundel

County will be launching GreenGive beginning at

5:00pm tomorrow and going until 5:00 on

Tuesday. This online fundraiser is the first time

multiple environmental nonprofits have

collaborated on such an event. Organizations such

as Annapolis Green, St. Luke’s Restoration of

Nature Project and the Spa Creek Conservancy are

just three of the eleven organizations that you can

give to during this event. For more information, go

to greengive.annapolisgreen.com.

Several environmental events will be occurring on

Wednesday, June 14. The first is the monthly

Green Drinks gathering, which will be held from

5:30-7:30 at the Lord Calvert House. You can

attend that event before heading to the Eastport

Yacht Club for the 7:00 showing of a special world

ocean film event, An Ocean Mystery, The Missing

Catch. This film was featured at the Smithsonian

during the environmental gathering in Washington

last month. It chronicles the most ambitious

fishing investigation ever conducted on the effects

of overfishing.

A Year of Getting to Know God through the Bible

Join us for our 5:30 PM service on Sunday and in

thirty minutes a week you can get to know God

and the Bible better. In the course of a year, you

will come away with an understanding of who God

is, what the Bible really says, and why the Bible is

so important to us as a source for understanding

who we are too. We also have a webpage that

contains additional resources for deeper

exploration and understanding:

Stephen Ministry: A New Class of Stephen

Ministers

If you are considering a role in Stephen Ministry,

now is the time to act! We train new Stephen

Ministers every two years. We are still accepting

applications and conducting interviews through

June for this September's class. Stephen Ministry

training teaches us to support our care receiver in

a confidential, safe, and loving manner, grounded

in Christ's love for us. We form a community of

dedicated, skilled, trustworthy and faithful leaders

and ministers who work to support each other in a

structured, prayerful environment. After 50 hours

of training, Stephen Ministers have the skills,

knowledge and confidence to care for people who

are suffering. If you would like to be considered

for this vital ministry, please contact Rev. William

Bell: 850-450-2801, [email protected]

or any of our Stephen Leaders:

Carol Leach: 410-263-1752

Fran Lukens: 410-353-4752

Lori Marchant: 443-994-5858

Rev. Joe Pagano: 410-267-9333

Rev. John Smith: 443-454-5648

Chip Tucker: 410-757-6841

If you would like to receive care from a Stephen

Minister or know of someone seeking care, please

contact Rev. Bell or Lori Marchant, 443-994-5858,

Healing and Hope - Personal Prayers at the

Offertory

At the Offertory on Sunday mornings, all are

welcome to come to the Holy Family Chapel.

Prayer ministers are there to pray with and for

you: for healing, hope, thanksgiving, or prayers

that have no words. We also offer anointing with

Holy Oil.

Being Admitted to a Hospital or to Rehab?

Please call us! Really, please call or email the office

or one of our clergy! Pastoral care for the sick and

ailing is a prime directive for our community. We

have trained Hospital Visitors that go to AAMC five

days a week. And we have a variety of ministries

for patients. In any event please let us know

directly. We are here to care.

Foyer Groups

Please join us for the Foyer Groups’ summer

gathering, Sunday, June 11 at 6:00 PM in the St.

Mission Trip to Heifer International

St. Anne's Church & First Presbyterian Church are

partnering on a mission trip to Heifer

International's Learning Center, at Overlook Farm

in Rutland, MA for a global education mission

August 6-10. Participants will have a first-hand

look at the challenges surrounding hunger and

poverty and learn about sustainable solutions and

how one person can make a difference. They will

stay in the Global Village in housing that simulates

the local communities such as a Tibetan yurt made

from yak hair, creating an existence in which

nothing - shelter, food, water or cooking fuel - can

be taken for granted.

The trip is open to all Middle & High School Young

People (including rising 6th through 11th graders).

The cost of the trip is $580 per person, $120 of

which will be covered by a St. Anne’s scholarship.
