NOVENA TO SAINT ANNE SAINT ANNE, ILLINOIS
The Novena will begin on Tuesday, July 18 and end on St. Anne’s Day, Thursday, July 26. Weekday Masses
with Novena prayers will be celebrated at 7:00 pm. On Saturday, July 21, Mass will be celebrated at 4:30 pm. On Sunday, July 22, Mass will be at 9:00 am. The schedule for St. Anne’s Day is as follows: 9:00 am Conference in Church 10:30 am Outdoor Mass with Anointing of the Sick. Mass concludes with a Procession with the Shrine Relic of St. Anne, and the recitation of the Rosary 11:00 am- Roast chicken dinner will be served 1:00 pm in the Hall, or an outdoor sandwich stand will also be available 12:15-1:30 Children’s Hour 1:00-1:45 Dedication Concert on the newly donated digital pipe organ 2:00 Closing Festival Mass Be sure to shop our religious gift tent, where we have a fine array of St. Anne items, including a lovely new print of our patron.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The American Revolution cleared the way for freedom of religion in the former colonies, since the colonies had always been a more religiously tolerant place than the old country. Even so, colonial laws restricted the practice of the Catholic faith, and just as in England, Americans who desired to be priests or nuns had to go to the Netherlands or France. As political storm clouds gathered in France, an American woman, Mother Bernardina Matthews, the prioress of the Hoogstraeten Carmel in Holland, made a brave move. With two other American nuns, her nieces, and a Dutch sister, she came to Port Tobacco, Maryland, in 1790. Within twenty years the community had grown to twenty, although by 1823 their farm failed and they had to move to Baltimore and open a school. The Carmelite order requires contemplation and cloister, so in time the school was closed. The Port Tobacco land had long since been sold, but in 1976 a community of nuns was able to return thanks to loyal neighbors who had worked for forty years for their restoration. In this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus tells his disciples to “Come away to a deserted place and rest a while.” Vincent de Paul, a great man of action was also a contemplative. His contemplation of God’s love overflowed into practical love for the poor.
Please say a special prayer for the poor and forgotten whenever you make a donation for the poor. We especially are thankful to those who donated to the collection on July 7-8, totaling $2060.00. These funds are utilized to help the needy in our community and those suffering from local disasters. May God bless you for your good works. If you missed our collection you may use the yellow envelopes in the back of the church and drop them in the collection box at any mass.

In September, 2018, the diocesan Scripture school opens its first location in north Naperville. The class will be located at St. Thomas the Apostle Monday evenings 7-9 PM and its focus in Year One will be on Old Testament Foundations. Students may also register for Year 2 classes at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Darien and its focus will be New Testament Foundations. Classes for this site are held Wednesday evenings 7-9 PM. "Yolanda" came to Waterleaf very uncertain about her future; she was pregnant and already the
mother of four. While she was working, her husband was unemployed, and they were struggling financially. She felt abortion to be her best option. After meeting with her Waterleaf Advocate about the effects of abortion, parenting another child, as well as making an adoption plan, she agreed she had a "lot to think about". We reminded her to wait until we confirmed a viable pregnancy prior to deciding, and she was open to this. She was tearful throughout her appointment and while she agreed adoption was a gift, she struggled with the idea. We checked back in with her a few days later and she indicated that she was still feeling very overwhelmed and they didn't feel ready for another baby. When Yolanda returned for her second ultrasound, she said that she and her husband were thinking of keeping the baby and were hoping for a girl! After seeing the images on the ultrasound screen, she was even more convinced that keeping the baby was the right choice. We offered her assistance with resources and provided diapers and wipes for her youngest child. In addition, we were able to apply for Project Love to assist her with rent payment. We were so happy to recently learn of her delivery of a healthy baby boy named "Andrew". Yolanda and her husband are grateful for the assistance from Waterleaf which helped them make the choice of life!

Catholic Charities’ Back to School Fair
The 26th Annual Will County Back to School Fair, coordinated by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Joliet Catholic Academy (1200 N. Larkin Avenue) in Joliet. This annual summer event is a major countywide effort to help families who are living on low-incomes access important services to begin the school year on a positive note. Children who attend the fair will receive free medical and dental services; vital information about local programs and services; and a new backpack with school supplies! Each child attending the fair must be accompanied by an adult. Parent/guardian must bring the following items in order to receive supplies and services for their children at the fair:
• Identification for all household members: Adults: state I.D. or driver’s license; passport; Mexican consulate I.D. Children: birth certificate, social security card, medical card, Mexican consulate I.D. • Proof of Income: Printouts from: public aid, social security, unemployment, food stamp, link card, check stub, or medical card. • Verification of Address: Current utility bill and/or government mail showing Will County address

The purpose of the Gift Shop is to provide religious gifts and faith support items for the home, and to bring new life to gently used religious artifacts donated by our parish family for our parish family. Dla osób nie należących do parafii, koszt za autobus jest $10 od osoby w jedną stronę. Osoby niepełnoletnie które chciały by uczestniczyć w pielgrzymce muszą mieć pisemną zgodę rodziców. Zbiórka na autobus pielgrzymkowy będzie na parkingu parafialnym w Sobotę 11 sierpnia o godzinie 5:15 rano. Autobus nie czeka na osoby spóźnione, odjeżdża punktualnie o godzinie 5:30 rano.

Faith: the Next Generation – Pass It On! Almost 400 children and young people, grades 1st through 12th, will sign up this fall to learn more about Jesus and our Catholic faith. You can help them learn and grow by becoming a catechist for Family Faith Formation. With classes offered on a varied schedule you are almost sure to find a time that fits your schedule. As you nurture the faith of our young, you will learn and grow as well! As one long-time catechist once said, “I learn so much from the children!” We provide you with training, materials, and support. Classes begin September 16, 2018. Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION
CATECHUMENATE The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.
BAPTISM OF CHILDREN
We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.
EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION
Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.
SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT
MARRIAGE
Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.

Those seeking assistance in discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to call the parish offices.
SACRAMENTS OF HEALING
RECONCILIATION Reconciliation is available each Saturday afternoon, 3:00pm, Wednesday evening, 5:45-6:45pm, through seasonal communal services, and by appointment.
ANOINTING Anointing of the Sick is offered through seasonal services, and always by request. If hospitalized, please immediately seek anointing from the Catholic chaplain.

St. Andrew the Apostle We Care Food Pantry
The St. Andrew We Care Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 10:00 am. until 12:30 p.m. for any eligible family in Romeoville in need of food assistance.
Our pantry is open only to Romeoville residents so proof of residency and an ID must be shown upon sign-in each week. If you are a parishioner of St. Andrew and you find yourself in need of food assistance, you are more than welcome to come to the We Care Food Pantry also. Proof of residency is a utility bill with your name and address on it plus your Driver’s License or State of Illinois ID. That must be brought in each time you come for food assistance.
