Bulletin Quote ~ I shall spend every moment loving. One who loves does not notice her trials; or perhaps more accurately, she is able to love them. I shall do everything for Heaven, my true home. - Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879), Patron against poverty, Feast Day February 18

Stewardship Reflection: Easter Sunday “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” C 3:2 Do you put God first in all things? Possessions, money, power, ego can easily become gods to many of us. Do a quick check of what is important to you. Is God at the very top of the list? If not, your priorities need to be re-adjusted. Don’t let earthly things become a god before God. This is also the first commandment – I am the Lord your God, you shall not have any strange gods before me.

April 12, 2020 Dear Parishioners, Jesus Christ is Risen Today is one of the most popular hymns of the Easter Season. The odds are great that most Catholic and Protestant congregations will sing out that song Easter Sunday (if we are allowed back into our places of worship). The hymn perfectly fits the Easter Gospel of the Lord’s resurrection (John 20:1-9). Those who encountered the Risen Lord that first Easter certainly proclaimed that song’s message to everyone they met. We might even picture them breaking into song. We can imagine John, who ran to the empty tomb and saw the burial clothes of Jesus, coming to believe and then singing to himself Jesus Christ is risen today as he retraced his steps. We can imagine Mary Magdalene, whose heartbreak at the apparent theft of her Master’s body was transformed into elation when the Risen Lord spoke her name, singing with unstrained joy Jesus Christ is risen today. We can imagine the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, who recognized the Risen Lord as he broke bread with them, becoming an Easter duet singing Jesus Christ is risen today as they hurried back to Jerusalem. We can imagine the group of frightened and confused disciples that Easter Sunday evening, who suddenly saw their crucified Lord standing before them, becoming a spirited choir singing out Jesus Christ is risen today. While most congregations will include Jesus Christ is Risen Today among their hymns for Easter Sunday, a good number will stop singing it once that Sunday has passed. It seems that in the understanding of many, the “today” of the song refers only to the day the Lord broke the bonds of death and walked out of the tomb. However, that is not the case nor is it the message of Easter. Easter proclaims that Jesus Christ is risen and alive this day and every day since he appeared to Mary Magdalene, the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, and his disciples gathered in the Upper Room. In fact, the way we number our years professes our belief that the Lord is risen and among us. We say this is the year 2020 A.D. Those two letters abbreviate the Latin phrase, Anno Domini, meaning “in the year of our Lord.” We do not ascribe a year to someone unless we believe that person is alive and active. The second verse of that classic Easter hymn proclaims another wondrous truth. It tells us that this is “our triumphant holy day.” That is the case because through our baptism we share in the resurrection of the Lord. As Saint Paul told us, “Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life” (Roman 6:3-4).

Our Easter faith that Jesus is alive and is risen makes this a “triumphant holy day” for us. It proclaims that we who have a relationship with him this day will continue to have a connection with him for days on end into eternity. Death will not have the final say in our life story. Jesus Christ is Risen Today is a hymn not just for Easter Sunday but for every day. It proclaims that the Lord lives and that we have life everlasting through him. Alleluia! (From “Looking to Sunday” by Fr. Tom Iwanowski). Wishing you and your loved ones a Happy and Healthy Easter Season! May the Risen Lord bless you and your families with his presence and peace, today and every day of the rest of our lives. Ed Karpinski Pastoral Associate, Faith Formation

Father Tom Blind Father Tom has requested, and been granted by the Cardinal, medical retirement effective May 1, 2020. He will reside in the Msgr. Kelley Residence for Retired Priests next to the school and will continue to help us with Masses. We are so grateful to Father Tom for his priestly service to our community and are happy that he will remain on our "campus" and that we will continue to see him on a regular basis. Please keep him in your prayers during this time of transition. Due to both budget issues and a shortage of priests available, we will not be having a priest coming to replace Fr. Tom as a parochial vicar.

THINK GREEN May the Risen Jesus continue to give us courage, determination and humor during these uncharted days!

When This Is Over Laura Kelly Fanucci

When this is over,

may we never again take for granted

A handshake with a stranger Full shelves at the store

Conversations with neighbors A crowded theatre

Friday night out The taste of communion

A routine checkup The school rush each morning

Coffee with a friend The stadium roaring

Each deep breath A boring Tuesday

Life itself

When this ends, May we find that we have become more like

the people we wanted to be We were called to be

We hoped to be And may we stay that way

– better for each other Because of the worst!

Peace, The Green Team

Go Fund Me Page For Parish Support Our Parish very much needs your continued financial support during these challenging times. We encourage you to mail or drop your weekly offerings in the rectory mail slot. This is also a good time to sign up for Electronic Parish Giving if you are not already using it. In addition, at the request of Cardinal Tobin, we have set up a parish Go Fund Me Page. The links for Electronic Giving and our Go Fund Me Page can be found on our parish web site at: www.stalscaldwell.org Thank you for your continued support!

DO YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES A DAY?

DO YOU WORRY ABOUT OUR WORLD TODAY?

We would like to invite you to become part of the LIVING ROSARY. This activity was started at Saint Aloysius Parish a number of years ago as a means of joining our prayers together to pray for peace in our country and for all our special intentions. It is also in response to people’s needs for greater spiritual growth. At this time we have several teams of 5 members each participating in our living rosary. It is a power house of prayer!

This activity may be taken on by anyone. Families can participate, the home bound can become part of the Living Rosary; persons on their way to work can join also. There are no meetings to attend.

What is necessary to become part of the Living Rosary is a commitment to say one decade of the Rosary each day. You then become a member of a team who together says the entire rosary each day. It is said for the intentions of those members comprising the Living Rosary and for the specific and special intentions of our parish. It can be done at home, in the car, on the train, and any time of your day.

The Rosary has been used for centuries for world peace, against the heresy of the times, during the Nazi occupation of Poland and at many other times. This is a simple devotion, parish oriented, that demands little of its members and produces great spiritual results.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the LIVING ROSARY. Please complete below and drop at rectory or call Dee Taylor 973-226-0209 x 32. We will then contact you to coordinate the groups and mysteries of the Rosary.

I am interested in becoming a member of the Living Rosary:
