Dear Families,

Dear Families, Lent began last week with Ash Wednesday and concludes on Easter Sunday. In this time of Lent, let us reflect and make time to prepare for Easter through prayer, giving to others (almsgiving) and giving up something that stops us being closer to Jesus. In this time of Lent let us ‘turn back to God’ if we have forgotten Him and learn, through the example of Jesus, to care for and cherish the people around us. We also pray for our students making their Sacrament of Reconciliation on Wednesday April 18th when they experience the healing love of Jesus. The Grade 3 students have begun their program focussing on the power of forgiveness. A reminder to Grade 3 families that the Reconciliation Faith Night for Grade 3 students and parents is this coming Monday 26th February at 6:30pm. Learning about Reconciliation during Lent is significant as both are times to think about ‘making a change’ and forgiveness of others and ourselves. Yours in faith, Andrew Butler Principal

Working Bee Thanks Thank you to the following families who attended our Twilight Working Bee last Friday. If your name has been left off the list please see the office. School Uniform Parents are asked to ensure that their child adheres to full school Uniform at all times. Uniform Regulations are as follows:

School Uniform is compulsory.

Black shoes are compulsory on non-sports days.

Runners are compulsory on sports days.

White sports socks may be worn on sports days.

Jewellery is not to be worn at school other than plain sleeper/studs and watches.

Jewellery worn underneath clothing is permitted eg neck chain

School hats are compulsory in terms 1 and 2 until the 1st May and

terms 3 and 4 from mid-August.

Long hair/ below collar length must be tied back.

Hair accessories are to be in school colours only.

A note is required from parent/guardian when not in correct school

uniform.

The enforcement of regulations is the responsibility of parents and

staff. Being on time for school Being on time for school is essential in giving students a great start to the day. Students feel much more confident and focussed when they are not missing out on the start of the school day. Often, students like to play and socialise in the playground before school. Each morning the teachers talk about the day ahead so that students are aware of any changes to the normal routines. The start of the day is most often the time when

teachers will discuss upcoming events and reminders. Important introductions to lessons occur. All families have experiences when they are late for a good reason, such as a medical appointment or perhaps a mechanical breakdown in the car. These things happen and we understand! It is when students are consistently late that it can affect their learning. At St Agnes we always encourage regular attendance at school and being on time. School attendance and family holidays during the school term From 2016 onwards there have been some changes to government policy in relation to school attendance. One important policy relates to families taking holidays during the school term. The family needs to notify the class teacher/s and also send an email to the principal stating that you are intending to go on a family holiday, the student’s name/s and class/s, the reason and time away. This request will be processed and the family needs to receive an official reply email from the school office accepting the request. This procedure relates to government compliance. If you have any questions about this procedure please ask Andrew Butler or at the office. Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is the most severe form of allergic reaction and is potentially life threatening. Our risk minimisation approach also includes asking parents of classmates to use alternatives to peanut butter and nutella on sandwiches and lunches and avoid sending raw nuts and muesli bars that contain nuts. On school camps where there are children with

a severe nut allergy, it will be requested that foods containing nuts are not taken or supplied, consistent with the nut minimisation policy. For more details on anaphylaxis, please refer to the St Agnes’ anaphylaxis policy which can be found on our school website under Policies in the ‘Our School’ section.
