December 3 & 4 Retired Religious December 8 Immaculate Conception

A LETTER FROM ARCHBISHOP CHAPUT November 27, 2016 Dear Friends in Christ, On September 4th in Saint Peter’s Square, Pope Francis proclaimed Mother Theresa of Calcutta a Saint to be honored by the Universal Church. In many ways, the canonization was just a seal of confirmation for a life lived in total dedication to God’s people, especially the most neglected. The ministry of Saint Theresa and her Missionaries of Charity exemplify for us all the power of the Holy Spirit working through human beings, with all their talents and deficiencies, to give witness to Jesus and the Gospel. Our many Religious men and women who have served our Archdiocese have given a similar example in education, caring for the sick and abandoned, and in a variety of apostolic endeavors geared to the changing times. Likewise, our contemplative Religious, in lives of prayer and solitude, bring down upon us numerous graces. With gratitude for their ministry over the years and conscious of the increasing demands of retirement care, each year, our dioceses sponsor the Retirement Fund for Religious Collection. This appeal enables all of us to generously thank our Religious for their service and to let them know that we do not forget them in their needs, particularly in their later years. As Archbishop, I ask that you remember all our Religious in prayerful remembrance and in generous support of the collection scheduled for December 3rd and 4th. I am quite sure that these men and women will appreciate your kindness and concern. May the Lord’s peace abide with us all. Gratefully in Jesus Christ, +Most Reverend Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap. REVISED EMERGENCY CAMPAIGN GOAL $210,000.00 TOTAL GIFTS AND PLEDGES $186,877.02 TOTAL GIFTS RECEIVED $175,590.83 BALANCE OF PLEDGES DUE $10,786.19 NUMBER OF GIFTS 280 Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Francis Xavier Church,

Sincere thanks to the 252 parishioners and friends who have brought this campaign beyond its original goal of $160,000.00. Your loyalty to our parish, your love for our beautiful historic church and your faithful support are deeply appreciated.

God and all His saints have protected us because the

workmen were able to discover dry rot in the church roof that could easily have caused a collapse of the nave roof and the clerestory wall on 24th Street. Trusting in the same Divine Providence, our campaign goal has had to be increased and we turn to you to respond generously to this emergency appeal. We know that the same loyalty, love and faith that brought us to our first goal will now do so again in this extraordinary need.

There are Ring of Light Campaign envelopes in the back

of church. Please take one so that you may respond to this appeal. Our beloved church is open today to serve the needs of us all because of your prayerful support. We know that you will generously respond to this emergency appeal.
