Today’s Psalm Response
You are my inheritance, O Lord! (Psalm 16)
Our Adult Faith Word, Eucharist, Life
Thirty-third Sunday Ordinary Time
Psalm 16, a prayer for troubled times…? Even more hopeful is the promise of Jesus to remain with us through all times, times when our world is turned upside down, and life becomes chaos among people. Know that he is near at the gates. We have the word of Jesus, a Word which will not pass away. Just as we read signs in nature, we are also to watch for signs in the affairs of our world and give heed to their message. With evil abounding like a bad mold in a damp place, we can yet see rays of light in the goodness of others who are messengers of truth and justice. Above all, our pondering of the paschal mystery that we remember in the Eucharistic assembly leads us along the right path, even if we do not know what events we will have yet to face in this world. Our contemplation of the Word, with one eye on world affairs, also directs us to be messengers sent by the One who animates us as a community of faith. What shall we do until the Messiah comes? This in-between era is the occasion to pray for and with the rest of humanity, a time for speaking out against the wrongs that meet our other eye and of taking part in God’s work on behalf of those suffering the effects of evil confronting them.
You are our inheritance, O Holy One!
Please write the names of your departed loved ones in the Book of Remembrance.
Daniel 12
Psalm 16
Hebrews 10
Mark 13

Second Collection TODAY, November 18 Today, November 18th, there will be a 2nd collection in all Catholic parishes in our country for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. For more than 30 years this na-tional collection has been taken up on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. The Catholic Campaign for Human Devel-opment has been very supportive of MICAH, the citi-zens’ organization in Memphis for social justice, of which St. Patrick’s is an institutional member. MICAH received a $25,000 start-up grant from CCHD. Also, MICAH just received word that it will receive another $50,000 this year for further support, and this $50,000 will be renewa-ble for the subsequent five years, if certain benchmarks are met. So, please be generous, as the Catholic Campaign for Human Development is very supportive to Memphis’ efforts through MICAH. Envelopes are in the pews for the second collection.
