OUR RECENT NEWS

Our Club has continued the good work over the past months. Activities include:

Peace Posters. Year 7 students of North Beach Primary School submitted their peace posters to our Club. This is something we look forward to each year. The students continue to submit interesting posters and we admire the standard of their art work.

Christmas Cakes – Jerry and Donna Hooper have done an amazing job again this year organising the sale of the Christmas cakes. We sold out of cakes very quickly this year. We sold cakes at Luna Shopping Centre Scarborough and North Beach Shopping Centres as well as at Bunnings Innaloo. Thank you to all the Club members who helped out.

Guest Speakers – Jenny Gartrell – Southern Cross Kenya Aida and Natasha Malanko re publishing children’s books about disabled children. These books will be distributed to all primary schools in Western Australia.

Fundraising BBQs – our Club continues to hold fundraising BBQs at Bunnings Whitfords, Bunnings Innaloo and Masters Joondalup. Thank you to all the members who continue to volunteer their time. It is worthwhile when you see the funds that we are able to donate at the end of each Lions fundraising year. Well done members.

Newspapers – the Club can no longer collect newspapers due to the fact that we no longer have any premises to store them. We thank Ann Mallin for the use of her garage for all of these years and for her work in stacking the newspapers

each week.

DG Visit – The W1 DG Ivan Sturgess and his wife Carol visited our Club on 26 November. We met at Eats Café at the Duncraig Shopping Centre. We all enjoyed the night.

President’s Christmas BBQ – thank you to Tim, our President and wife Kylie for hosting the Christmas BBQ. It was a great night. The members who attended enjoyed the night and had the opportunity to try out Tim’s breathalyser machine – a great little machine and without mentioning names, we found out who the drinkers were.

Book stall – our Club is going to consider organising a book stall – possibly at Karrinyup Shopping Centre. Members to check out their supply of unwanted books at home.

Youth of the Year – in progress at present. Thank you to all of our members who have volunteered their time. In just a short time our Club has achieved much. Well done members.

MINTS

Simon will be ordering more Mints. We do need to establish more outlets. Members – see what you can do. We would like to be able to achieve more sales if we possibly can.

CHILDREN OF COURAGE

Chris Smelt has requested that we look out for suitable children for the Children of Courage Awards, scheduled for March 2015.

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

Our Club in the past months have welcomed new members – Doug Anderson, June North, Naomi Hattingh, Nicole Napier and Robert Bates. Unfortunately two members have resigned – Craig Meecham and Marcia Watson. We thank Craig for all he has done for the Club – in particular being our Mints Coordinator for several years, his assistance at fundraising BBQs and has been the 1st Vice President for several years. Marcia we also thank her for her efforts and wish her well. We are sorry to lose you as a member. We appreciated your new ideas.

I’m passing this on because it worked for me today. A doctor on TV said that in order to have inner peace in our lives, we should always finish things that we start. Since we all could use more calm in our lives, I looked around my house to find things I’d started and hadn’t finished. I finished a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Chardonnay, a bodle of Baileys, a butle of wum, tha mainder of Valiuminun scriptins, an a box a choclutz. Yu has no idr how fablus I feel rite now. Sned this to all ur frenz who need inner piss. An telum u luvum. End of newsletter.
