Picture: DENNIS MANKTELOW . N19SR608 WORK on the Vineyard Rd dupli- cation will not be complete until the middle of next year, six months behind schedule. VicRoads northern city projects acting project director Rob Kriek said the delays were due to earth removal near McDougall Rd. The Leader was told in June 45,000 cubic metres of soil and rock would need to be excavated from the section, the equivalent of 18 Olympic swimming pools. ‘‘Specialised equipment to assist with this task has proven difficult to source and with service relo- cation delays and poor weather over recent months, the project will be delayed until 2010,’’ he said. The delays have angered some Vineyard Rd traders. Sunbury Home Brew Supplies owner Peter Kakol said he was pouring money down the drain. The business has been open for three years, and Mr Kakol likened the decrease in trade since roadworks began to that of his first week open. He was now worried that his busi- ness might not stay afloat if works were delayed six months. SunTyre Brakes and Front End owner George Naidu said he had seen a 30-40 per cent drop in busi- ness over the past nine months. ‘‘They don’t seem to care about how they’re affecting the little businesses. I will be looking for compensation.’’ Andraos Brothers Winery co- owner Fred Andraos said the roadworks had been a complete ‘‘stuff up’’ from day one. His driveway needed to be re- paired and people had trouble ac- cessing his property. ‘‘There’s no end in sight,’’ Mr Andraos said. ‘‘The cellar door sales have been affected with people not knowing when or where to go in.’’ Have you been happy with the roadworks?
