Residents of these villages are compelled to cover several kilome- tres to fetch drinking water. "Some vested interest are using motors to irrigate their kitchen gar- dens which leaves people staying at tail ends high and dry. We have apprised concerned department about this issue on many occasions but our pleas have fallen flat on deaf ears,” residents said. Besides water supply to half a dozen villages in Khag area has got snapped due to the ongoing road widening process on Drang-Magam road. Residents of these villages are up in the arms against PHE depart- ment for not taking any steps to restore the water supply in this area. “We are facing acute water scar- city for the past many days and nobody seems bothered to restore it,” rued women of Fojipora. "We used to fetch water from nearby streams but these streams have also dried up. No one from PHE is taking notice of our woes," said Muhammad Ashiq of Nassarpora. Many villages like Nassarpora, Chekh, Fojipora, Sourish, Panjiyara, Alahpora and Larikhpora are facing water shortage as pipelines have got damaged at several places. The Assistant Engineer PHE Sub Division Beerwah Mushtaq Ahmad while talking to Greater Kashmir said, “Our men are on work to restore the damaged pipelines. We seized and burnt around forty plastic pipes in Beerwah town.” GHULAM MUHAMMAD Sopore, July 8: Clashes and protests erupted in this north Kashmir town soon after congregation prayers on Friday. Referring to some of the path - breaking new initiatives of the Modi Government in the last two years,Dr Jitendra Singh said, the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi follows the principle of “cooperative federalism” vis-à-vis different States of the Union. This, he said, implies that the states would not only get their due share, but also that part of the share which they deserved but was not forthcoming earlier.
