evolutionary significance.
3. Acquire basic skills in the observation and study of nature, biological techniques,
experimental skills and scientific investigation.
4. Acquire basic knowledge and skills in certain applied branches to enable them to find self
employment.
Eligibility for admission
A pass in the Higher Secondary Examination (Academic / Vocational Stream) with
Biology or Zoology and Botany conducted by the Government of Tamil Nadu
Duration
The course is for a period of three years. Each academic year shall comprise of two
semesters viz. Odd and Even semesters.
Course of study
The main Subject of Study for Zoology Degree Course shall consist of the following
(For the course pattern, refer to Table 1)

Scheme of examination
Refer to Table - 2
Evaluation
A. Theory
The performance of a student is evaluated in terms of percentage of marks with a
provision for conversion to grade points. Evaluation for each course shall be done by a
continuous internal assessment by the concerned course teacher as well as by an end semester
examination which will be a written-type examination of 3 hours duration and will be
consolidated at the end of the course. The ratio of marks to be allotted to continuous internal
assessment and to end semester examination is 25 : 75. (ie. Internal 25 marks and External 75
marks)
The components for continuous internal assessment are :
Two tests and their average 15 Marks
Seminar/Group Discussion 5 Marks
Assignment 5 Marks
Total 25 Marks
B. Practical
The evaluation of laboratory component will also be based on continuous internal
assessment and on an end-semester practical examination. The ratio of marks to be allotted to
continuous internal assessment and to end semester practical examination is
40 : 60. (ie. Internal 40 marks and External 60 marks)
The components for continuous internal assessment are :
Test 10 Marks
Lab work, Assignment and Regularity 30 Marks
Total 40 Marks
