SRI LANKA EX-SERVICEMEN'S INSTITUTE
LawNo. 2 of 1973.
A LAW TO INCORPORATE THE SRI LANKA EX-SERVICEMEN'S INSTITUTE, TO PROVIDEAMENITIES OF CLUB LIFE TO PERSONS BELONGING TO THE SRI LANKAEX-SERVICEMEN'S ASSOCIATION OF COLOMBO, THE SRI LANKA ARMY, THE SRILANKA NAVY AND THE SRI LANKA AIR FORCE, AND TO PROVIDE FOR ALLMATTERS CONNECTED THEREWITH OR INCIDENTAL THERETO.
Short title.
Establishmentandincorporationof the SriLanka Ex-Servicemen'sInstitute.
1. This Law may be cited as the SriLanka Ex-Servicemen's Institute Law.
2. (1) There shall be established a bodycalled the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen'sInstitute, hereafter in this Law referred to as" the Institute ", consisting of nine trusteesas hereinafter provided.
(2) The Institute shall consist of ninetrustees appointed as follows :—
(a) one trustee appointed by thePresident to represent the SriLanka Army;
(b) one trustee appointed by thePresident to represent the SriLanka Navy;
(c) one trustee appointed by thePresident to represent the SriLanka Air Force;
(d) four trustees appointed by the SriLanka Ex-Servicemen's Associationto represent that association; and
(e) two trustees appointed by theMinister.
(3) The Institute shall, by the nameassigned to it in subsection (1), be a bodycorporate and shall have perpetualsuccession and a common seal and may sueand be sued in such name.
(4) If any trustee appointed undersubsection (2) is absent from Sri Lanka fora period exceeding three months or dies or

resigns from office or becomes incapacitatedfrom acting as a trustee, or if the person orbody who appointed such trustee cancelssuch appointment at his or its discretion,another trustee shall be appointed in likemanner to fill the vacancy.
3. The objects of the Institute shall be— Objects of theInstitute.
(a) to provide the privileges of club lifein the Institute for—
(i) members of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's Association;
(ii) members of the Armed Forcesof Sri Lanka; and
(iii) any other categories of persons,in the discretion of thetrustees of the Institute;
(b) to establish and maintain a mainbranch of the Institute at Colomboand subsidiary branches of theInstitute at other places in SriLanka, in the discretion of thetrustees of the Institute; and
(c) to give assistance, whether by meansof grants of money or otherwise, toclubs, associations and other similarinstitutions anywhere in Sri Lankawhich, in the opinion of the trusteesof the Institute, are conducted withthe object, wholly or partly, ofproviding for the welfare of themembers of the Armed Forces ofSri Lanka, or for the members of

Managementand control bythe Institute.
The Institutenot to makedistinction ofcolour,religion, &c.
The Institute tohave power tohold property,accept gifts,&c.
the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen'sAssociation, or categories ofpersons referred to in sub-paragraph(iii) of paragraph (a).
4. The trustees of the Institute shall beresponsible for the entire control andmanagement of the Institute, including allthe branches thereof, and shall have thepower to make such rules as they deem fitfor the purposes of such control andmanagement.
5. The Institute shall be maintainedwithout any distinction of colour, raceor religion.
6. The Institute may, for the purposes ofthis Law, take and hold any property,movable or immovable, which may becomevested in it by virtue of the provisions of
any law, or by virtue of any purchase, grant,gift, testamentary disposition or otherwise,and may, subject to any trust affecting thesame, sell, mortgage, lease, exchange orotherwise deal with the same for suchpurposes as aforesaid.
7. In this Law, unless the context Interpretation.otherwise requires, " Armed Forces of SriLanka " means—
(a) the Sri Lanka Army; or
(b) the Sri Lanka Navy; or
(c) the Sri Lanka Air Force.
