    The Lansdowne Public Library offers a nine week Summer Reading Challenge for children through age 18.

    The benefits of our summer reading challenge include: Keeping your mind sharp to help avoid the “summer slide.”

    Encouraging a habit of reading 

    It’s fun! 

    Reading keeps your brain active and helps it grow!

    Summer Reading Challenge

    Experiment and Explore Early Literacy!It's a summer reading challenge for our youngest library friends!Each week we will focus on one of the pre-reading skills and explore them through funactivities.At the completion of the program children will earn a prize.

    The six skills are Print motivation - or liking books - means children will want to learn to read. Phonological awareness - helps children sound out written words. Vocabulary - helps children recognize written words and understand what they

    read.

    Narrative skills - helps children develop thinking and comprehension

    skills.

    Print awareness - helps children feel comfortable with books and

    understand that print is useful.

    Letter knowledge - helps children figure out how to sound

    out words.

    Summer Meals at the library!The Lansdowne Library is pleased to be able to offer summer meals beginning June 20ththrough August 12th. Children ages 18 and under may stop by for lunch, Monday throughFriday, which will be served from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pmMeals provided by Nutritional Development Services.

    StorytimesOur storytimes for children continue into the summer. There is no registration unless otherwise

    indicated.

    Wee Read: Thursdays at 10:30 am (3-5 with caregiver)

    Bibs-n-Books: Tuesdays at 10:30 am (infant through 3 year old)

    Mondays: Midday Movie MatineeTake a midday break and check out family friendly flicks!Begins at 1pm, all ages welcome. 

    Tuesdays: STEM ClubIt’s Tech Tuesdays! Explore Science, Technology Engineering and Math.1pm for ages 7 and up

    Wednesdays: Chess Club and Discover a Game DayWeekly chess tournaments, chess games and board games are available for a midweek

    mond stretch! 

    Fridays: Garden ClubHelp out with the library garden and create enchanted scenes for you to take home! 10 amto 12 pm for all ages.

    Fridays: It’s Game Day for tweens and teens! Beginning at 2pm

    Special Events:Speed Painting 6/16 at 4pm

    Join Desire and Angel for paintings created in under an hour! (An Inside/Out Art event)  

    Puppet Making and Performance6/29, 7/6 and 7/11Join students from Camp Friendship for a Puppet making workshop. Then see yourpuppets perform during a show on 7/11
