You will no to the mnrkc1l increase of strength in the corps composing tl1c Brigailcs under the chnrgc .of Lieut-Colonels Kin,; and Fletcher, their inercnso in gcncr:U cfficicnol is in Etill

Thoroughly nrmed noel equipped, of splendid physi<iuc, rapidly Lccoming efficient in drill, of great esprit.tie.corp, nnd animated by the ruost devoted spirit of loynlty, these fine rural corps of an netual atrcngth of O\"Cr throo thousn111l lh·o hundred ofliccrs an1l men, of whom thrco thousnnd were prc.<;ent at the inspection parnJes, form a Forco which I fool justly proud to have in charge; nnd distributed as tho~ corps 1iri11cipally arc, on tho most exposell Frontier Lino of the Dominion, they compose a vnluablo contingent for it.~ def1:ncc.

The 55th, or "Mcgantic" Battalion and the 5Sth "Con1pton" have, ns newly rni eil

Regiments, progressed mo:>t rapidly ; the former of these, I regret that special duty on the Frontier prevented me from in8pccting; the report of J,icut..-IJolonel King, who took tho cluty i~ however, most i;atblfactory. The '·Compton" Dattnlion, I inspectcil on Dominion Day ; and a finer Battalion I have rarely seen. .Althou"h EC!ltterctl o\'cr a wide country, all the companies composing the Regiment mm;tcroo to

0rcther nt Cookshiro; when in concert with

the Cookshiro and Sherbrooke Troop of Uavnlry :ind the Sherbrooke Battalion, it took part

in a Field Day.

Somo of the companies in thi.<:1 Battallion marched over fifty mil~, to tako rart in this review, thus giving four or five day:; of their time without extra rsy. The towoship and county councils of the County of Comptom, defrayed tho cost of rationing the men ou the

mnrch, and at Cookshirc.

I have found that the system of Battnlioniziug the rural oorupnnics h:l.'! been one of tltl

great nids to tho succc"s which has attended their organization.

The want of efficient instruction in mu ... ketry is much fclt, awl l r" pcctfully trust some means of supplying a course of this important branch of milit.'lry t!tlucatiou way ere long he
