Dear Friends,

The Adrienne Arsht Center represents so much to our community. Most of you know it as a world-class showcase for great performances by our most innovative local artists and the greatest talents from around the world. Look through this brochure and you’ll see a dazzling array of work to be presented across all our stages: Broadway blockbusters, cutting-edge theater, Grammy Award-winning legends, thrilling contemporary dance and glorious ballet, family shows, opera, classical music, jazz, gospel, experimental work, and more. That, along with its stunningly beautiful architecture, impeccable sight lines and outstanding acoustics, is enough to have earned the Arsht Center its identity as one of the great performing arts spaces in the world. The happy news is that it is also so much more.

The Arsht Center’s magnificent campus, a vibrant town square thriving in what was a blighted area less than a decade ago, exemplifies Miami’s new urban spirit. Today, powered by fiscally strong professionals and passionate donors and volunteers, the Arsht Center is leading our neighborhood and our city as an economic catalyst, developing a vibrant urban core. With the pivotal role the Arsht Center plays in the non-profit Town Square Neighborhood Development Corporation, a powerhouse group of cultural, civic and business leaders, we are actively shaping the landscape of our community and writing the next chapter in Miami’s history.

Just as the future of our neighborhood is inextricably linked to the growth of the Arsht Center, the future of the Arsht Center – indeed of the performing arts – is dependent on our nurturing the minds and spirit of our entire community: audiences, artists, and, perhaps most especially, our young people. Central to the Arsht Center mission is to create meaningful community-building experiences for the citizens of Miami-Dade County and South Florida through active arts learning experiences. Each year, we offer more than 100 culturally diverse and inclusive events serving 40,000 people of all ages—many enhanced by the Arsht Center’s relationship with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, local teaching artists, arts organizations and resident companies. Since the fall of 2009, every Miami-Dade County fifth grader has been invited to attend a free performance of Rock Odyssey, reaching almost 100,000 children to date. Now in its 7th season, Jazz Roots Sound Checks engage the next generation of jazz enthusiasts with once-in-a-lifetime backstage experiences with legendary performers. The annual AileyCamp Miami reaches 100 vulnerable middle school students with full scholarships to a six-week dance and self-development camp. The nationally recognized Accessing the Arts residency program sends 18 teaching artists to Miami-Dade County public schools each semester to encourage students with and without disabilities to express themselves creatively through dance, music and drama. Camp Broadway at the Arsht Center enables theater-loving kids, ages 10-17, to develop their confidence, character and presentation skills through rehearsing and performing the classics of American musical theater. In addition, the Center annually curates more than 20 master classes, work-shops, residencies and other opportunities to deliver arts education to more than 10,000 learners of all ages.

As we look toward our landmark 10th anniversary season, we build our future on our already considerable achievements, on providing ever-increasing access to the performing arts to everyone in our community, and, not least, on your continued extraordinary support.

Thank you for playing a central role in our story.

Sincerely,

M. John Richard President & CEOAdrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County
