As we prepare our yards for a beautiful landscape, we have to remember to take some important steps to accomplish great results. Conservation and Sustainability Tips: Fix a Leak Week! Replace batteries in your irrigation clocks Teach your plants to grow deeply for moisture. In spring, for average soils, water deeply only every two to three weeks Test-run your irrigation system to check for leaks and spray heads that are broken or out of adjustment Irrigation systems should always be inspected each spring and fall for potential damage from the winter and summer seasons Work compost or soil amendments into planting beds to improve moisture retention as summer approaches Keep mulch on the soil to temper the drying and heating effect of the sun The Environmental Protection Agency’s tenth annual Fix a Leak Week is March 15th through 21st and Liberty has a lot of great ways to help you save water this week! To see if your toilet is leaking, place a toilet dye tablet or a couple of drops of food coloring in the tank (not the bowl) of your toilet. Wait 15 minutes and do not use the toilet. Check to see if any color appears in the bowl. Spring season is the best time for a fresh start: spring cleaning, enjoying activities outdoors, gardening and sustainable living. As we prepare our yards for a beautiful landscape, we have to remember to take some important steps to accomplish great results.
