Overview

WhatisthepurposeofWorkshops?SpringBoard’sCloseReadingWorkshopscanbeusedthroughouttheyeartohelpstudentsreadcomplextextswithdepthandcloseattentiontodetail.Designedwithflexibilityinmind,teacherscanimplementselectworkshopelementsintoclasssessionsorcompletetheentireworkshopinaweek.SpringBoard’sCloseReadingWorkshopsaredesignedtobuildreaderindependencethroughteacher-guidedreading,collaborativereading,andultimatelyindependentreading.SpringBoard’sWritingWorkshopshelpstudentsbuildtheirindependentwritingabilities.TheWritingWorkshopsaredesignedtobuildfromteacher-guidedpracticethroughclassconstructedandcollaborativewritingandultimatelyculminatinginindependentwritingabilities.SpringBoard’sWritingWorkshopsaregenre-specificandfeaturetipsandsupportsforstylesofwritingsuchasargumentative,expository,narrative,andpoetry.TheWorkshopsmoduleinSpringBoardDigitalallowsteacherstoassigninteractive,digitalversionsoftheCloseReadingandWritingWorkshopstostudents,takingadvantageoftexttoolsavailableineBooks.

WhocanaccessWorkshops?AllSpringBoardEnglishLanguageArtsteachershaveaccesstoworkshops,andtheymayassignthemtotheirstudents.

HowdoIpreviewWorkshops?YoucanquicklypreviewinteractiveworkshopsfromtheWorkshopsmoduleorwhenassigningtheminLessonPlanner

HowdostudentsdoworkonWorkshops?Whenyouassignafullworkshoporactivitieswithinaworkshop,studentsgainaccesstothemastheywouldanyotherassignmentmadetotheminSpringBoardDigital:viatheirMyCalendar&Assignmentsmodule.StudentscompletetheirworkinthesamewaytheywouldtypicaleBookexercisesandactivities.

PreviewingandAssigningWorkshopsTeacherscanpreviewWorkshopsdirectlyfromtheWorkshoptileonthemaininterface,orbyaccessingdirectlyinLessonPlanner(coveredinthenextsection).Thestepsareessentiallythesameforboth:

1. SelectWorkshopstile2. Identifytypeofworkshop3. Selectgradelevel4. Showresults5. Selectspecificworkshoptopreviewbytitle(includingTeacherWrap)6. Previewtheworkshopbynavigatingthroughit7. AssigntheworkshopusingLessonPlanner

maylockoractivatespecificactivitieswithintheworkshopusingtheactive/lockedtoggle.

Note:Youcanreturntotheworkshopassignmentinyourlessonplanandunlockotheractivitiesfromtheworkshopatanytime,providingthatyourstudentshaveenoughtimetocompletetheirworkbeforetheduedate.

GradingWorkshopsinGradebookGradingworkshops–aswithmostSpringBoardDigitalgrading–isdoneintheGradebook.You’llwanttowaittogradeworkshopswhenyourclasshasfinishedallactivities,becauseyou’llneedtoclosetheworkshoppriortograding.

1. ClickGradebookandselectUpNextfromthefirstdropdownmenu.ClickClosethisWorkshopinordertobegingrading.Ensurethatallstudentshavesubmittedtheirworkforallactivitiespriortoclosingtheworkshop.

2. Toseeandgradeastudent’swork,usetheStudentInformationdropdown

menutoselectastudent.
