Overview

WhatisthepurposeofWorkshops?SpringBoard’sCloseReadingWorkshopscanbeusedthroughouttheyeartohelpstudentsreadcomplextextswithdepthandcloseattentiontodetail.Designedwithflexibilityinmind,teacherscanimplementselectworkshopelementsintoclasssessionsorcompletetheentireworkshopinaweek.SpringBoard’sCloseReadingWorkshopsaredesignedtobuildreaderindependencethroughteacher-guidedreading,collaborativereading,andultimatelyindependentreading.SpringBoard’sWritingWorkshopshelpstudentsbuildtheirindependentwritingabilities.TheWritingWorkshopsaredesignedtobuildfromteacher-guidedpracticethroughclassconstructedandcollaborativewritingandultimatelyculminatinginindependentwritingabilities.SpringBoard’sWritingWorkshopsaregenre-specificandfeaturetipsandsupportsforstylesofwritingsuchasargumentative,expository,narrative,andpoetry.TheWorkshopsmoduleinSpringBoardDigitalallowsteacherstoassigninteractive,digitalversionsoftheCloseReadingandWritingWorkshopstostudents,takingadvantageoftexttoolsavailableineBooks.

WhocanaccessWorkshops?AllSpringBoardEnglishLanguageArtsteachershaveaccesstoworkshops,andtheymayassignthemtotheirstudents.

HowdoIpreviewWorkshops?YoucanquicklypreviewinteractiveworkshopsfromtheWorkshopsmoduleorwhenassigningtheminLessonPlanner

HowdostudentsdoworkonWorkshops?Whenyouassignafullworkshoporactivitieswithinaworkshop,studentsgainaccesstothemastheywouldanyotherassignmentmadetotheminSpringBoardDigital:viatheirMyCalendar&Assignmentsmodule.StudentscompletetheirworkinthesamewaytheywouldtypicaleBookexercisesandactivities.

PreviewingandAssigningWorkshopsTeacherscanpreviewWorkshopsdirectlyfromtheWorkshoptileonthemaininterface,orbyaccessingdirectlyinLessonPlanner(coveredinthenextsection).Thestepsareessentiallythesameforboth:

1. SelectWorkshopstile2. Identifytypeofworkshop3. Selectgradelevel4. Showresults5. Selectspecificworkshoptopreviewbytitle(includingTeacherWrap)6. Previewtheworkshopbynavigatingthroughit7. AssigntheworkshopusingLessonPlanner

3. Clickthelinkoftheworkshopyouwouldliketopreview.

AssigningWorkshopsUsingLessonPlanner1. InLessonPlanner,selecttheappropriatedateandclass,,andthenclickcreatea

lessonplan.

2. Withinthelessonplan,clicktheworkshopiconintheleftsidebar,orclick

withintheWorkshopsfield.

3. Inthepulldownmenus,selectworkshopTypeandLevel,andthenshow

results.

4. Selecttheworkshopthatyouwouldliketoprevieworassign.

5. Clickpreviewtopreviewtheworkshop.6. Toassign,clickaddtolessonplan.Allactivitieswithintheworkshopwillbe

addedindividuallytothelessonplan.

7. Assignaduedate.Fullworkshopstypicallyspanseveraldaysofinstruction.You

maylockoractivatespecificactivitieswithintheworkshopusingtheactive/lockedtoggle.

Note:Youcanreturntotheworkshopassignmentinyourlessonplanandunlockotheractivitiesfromtheworkshopatanytime,providingthatyourstudentshaveenoughtimetocompletetheirworkbeforetheduedate.

2. Studentselectstheworkshopassignmentbyclickingtheassociatedhyperlink.

3. Studentreadsandcompletesassignmentswithinanswerboxesbyclickingtheplussignandenteringtextinthetextfields.

4. Toindicatestudentprogress,theslideisshadedinlightgreeninthenavigation

whenastudenthasviewedit,andcheckedwhenallfieldshavebeencompleted.Anyactivitywhichhasnotbeenunlockedbytheteacherwillfeaturealockicon.

GradingWorkshopsinGradebookGradingworkshops–aswithmostSpringBoardDigitalgrading–isdoneintheGradebook.You’llwanttowaittogradeworkshopswhenyourclasshasfinishedallactivities,becauseyou’llneedtoclosetheworkshoppriortograding.

1. ClickGradebookandselectUpNextfromthefirstdropdownmenu.ClickClosethisWorkshopinordertobegingrading.Ensurethatallstudentshavesubmittedtheirworkforallactivitiespriortoclosingtheworkshop.

2. Toseeandgradeastudent’swork,usetheStudentInformationdropdown

menutoselectastudent.

3. Evaluateandmarkeachstudentresponse.YoucanuseQuickCommentsalongwithaddinginyourpersonalcommentsbyclickingtheplussign.
