Arts Council for CSUN Founded in 1971, the Arts Council for CSUN was specifically created as a support organization for the arts programs at California State University, Northridge. The Arts Council for CSUN provides volunteer service and scholarship resources to the CSUN Art Galleries and academic departments of Art, Cinema and Television Arts, Music, and Theatre. The Arts Council provides ushering assistance during Mike Curb College performances and select lectures, as well as hosting opening and closing receptions of CSUN Art Gallery exhibitions. The Arts Council also operates the Music Shoppe in Cypress Hall, with proceeds going toward Music Department programs and scholarships. Members enjoy benefits such as special tours and events within the visual and performing arts or of cultural or historical significance.

The students and faculty in our college present more than 120 outstanding performances, exhibitions, screenings, and other events each year. This spring sees our Theatre and Music Departments produce Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first musical, IN THE HEIGHTS, in the Great Hall at the Valley Performing Arts Center, our Jazz ‘A’ Band celebrate Ella Fitzgerald’s centennial—Ella at 100—with guest vocalist Barbara Morrison, our Art Galleries present an Exhibition of Three-Dimensional Art and the annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, and the CSUN Cinematheque presenting a retrospective of American indie film pioneer John Cassavetes. Artists in ResidenceDavid Lawrence and Faye Greenberg

The Mike Curb College is thrilled to welcome the entertainment power couple of award-winning composer David Lawrence and lyricist Faye Greenberg as Artists in Residence for the spring semester.

The team contributed songs and/or score to Disney’s High School Musical series, Life With Judy Garland—Me and My Shadows, Descendants, Jericho, American Pie & Sesame Street. Their song “Stick To The Status Quo” was featured on the best-selling CD of 2006 and continues to be performed all over the world.

Ms. Greenberg and Mr. Lawrence will mentor students, offer master classes, and guest lecture in the Music and Theatre Departments. They will also be featured on the Commerce of Creativity Distinguished Speakers Series, offering their insights into what it takes to be successful in entertainment.

Faye Greenberg along with composer/husband David Lawrence contributed songs to Disney’s High School Musical 1 & 2, Life with Judy Garland—Me and My Shadows, Teen Beach Movie and Holidaze. She received a Quadruple Platinum CD for her work on the original “HSM” soundtrack (“Stick To The Status Quo”) —the best selling CD of 2006. The latest Lawrence/Greenberg musical collaborations, including “My Destiny”, will be heard this season on Liv and Maddie. Faye received an LA Weekly Award for her work on An Elephant Never Forgets—an evening of trunk songs (with composers Jerry Sternbach & John Kroner), a Denver Post Ovation Nomination for her work on The 1940’s Radio Christmas Carol (with librettist Walt Jones & composer David Wohl), and has written many family musicals (with librettist Michael Slade & composer David Evans) including a musical adaptation of Judy Blume’s classic Superfudge. Her play, The Beast of Broadway (written with Robert L. Freedman) recently enjoyed a successful run in Naples, Florida. She lives in Los Angeles with composer/husband David, extraordinary daughter Mabel and an assortment of neurotic dogs.

He has been commissioned to write three ballets for Barak Ballet (the third currently in collaboration with interactive video artist Refik Anadol), orchestrated the off-Broadway production of Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh, composed the music for the Lake of Dreams Orb Show (director, Kenny Ortega) at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas and is a two-time recipient of the ASCAP Award for Most Performed Film Score. He lives in Los Angeles with his lyricist/wife Faye Greenberg, his delightful daughter Mabel & two laid back rescue dogs. He is a graduate of Mannes Conservatory of Music.

Event TicketsAdvance tickets for all venues (except for the VPAC Great Hall) are available at the Associated Students (AS) Ticket Office in the University Student Union, Monday through Saturday 10am to 6pm, or by calling 818-677-2488 during those

Parking InformationPermit parking on campus is enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Parking permits are $8 per day and can be purchased at Information Booths located at Lindley/Nordhoff, Praire/Darby, Zelzah/Lot G4 or at self-serve dispensers in all student lots.

American with Disabilities Act (ADA)Both an ADA placard and CSUN parking permit are required to park on campus. Visitors requiring accommodations for a disability, call venue info number at least two weeks in advance. Interpreters for the deaf and hard of hearing are regularly scheduled for the 2nd Friday performance of each regular theatre production.

TEMPO TEMPO is a new music ensemble based in Los Angeles. Individual GivingEllen and Howard Press, both CSUN graduates who met on campus, share a passion for helping students who are practical and motivated to rise above their circumstances. Howard, a successful homebuilder and the first member of his family to attend college, and Ellen, an educator and published author of featured stories and children’s literature, established the Ellen and Howard Press Family Endowed Scholarship to provide support for CSUN students in perpetuity. The Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication and the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics will benefit from their generosity.

Memorial GivingMusic in all forms was Frank McGinnis’ passion. A professor of piano and music theory at CSUN from 1968 to 1995, McGinnis’ musical tastes ranged from classical to jazz. He shared his love of music with CSUN students and the community through solo and chamber music performance, consulting and editing with Sony-Superscope and Klavier Records, and mentoring through the Music Teachers National Association. McGinnis passed away on Feb. 2, 2016, but his passion lives on. To honor his love of music and education, his wife Winnifred L. McGinnis, along with many friends and family members, created the Dr. Frank McGinnis Memorial Piano Scholarship endowment — the total of gifts reached more than $32,000.

Estate PlanningA recent planned gift by a CSUN emeritus faculty member and his alumna spouse, will provide for their AIA award-winning home to be used as an off-campus retreat space flexible enough for a variety of activities including artist live/work space, musical salons, poetry readings, interdisciplinary events, practice/recording sessions, exhibitions, special receptions, faculty retreats, and staff training seminars. An additional monetary bequest by the couple will establish a fund to maintain the property helping to ensure its vitality.

Arts Council for CSUN Founded in 1971, the Arts Council for CSUN was specifically created as a support organization for the arts programs at California State University, Northridge. The Arts Council for CSUN provides volunteer service and scholarship resources to the CSUN Art Galleries and academic departments of Art, Cinema and Television Arts, Music, and Theatre. The Arts Council provides ushering assistance during Mike Curb College performances and select lectures, as well as hosting opening and closing receptions of CSUN Art Gallery exhibitions. The Arts Council also operates the Music Shoppe in Cypress Hall, with proceeds going toward Music Department programs and scholarships. Members enjoy benefits such as special tours and events within the visual and performing arts or of cultural or historical significance.

The students and faculty in our college present more than 120 outstanding performances, exhibitions, screenings, and other events each year. This spring sees our Theatre and Music Departments produce Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first musical, IN THE HEIGHTS, in the Great Hall at the Valley Performing Arts Center, our Jazz ‘A’ Band celebrate Ella Fitzgerald’s centennial—Ella at 100—with guest vocalist Barbara Morrison, our Art Galleries present an Exhibition of Three-Dimensional Art and the annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, and the CSUN Cinematheque presenting a retrospective of American indie film pioneer John Cassavetes.
