SPRING WATERS OR FONTANILS
Spring water is a source of fresh water from the nature.
It is very ordinary here. We find it in the ”padano-venetian plain” or “Po
valley”We speak about fontanils when the
outcrop is produced by man.
The Po Valley is divided by an invisible line that separates the high plain from the low
one.Along this line there’s a strip of spring waters that varies
from 2 to 30 km wide.
River waters meet very permeable soils that allow
water flowing into the subsoil. Then it meets an inpermeable soil and it moves slowly from the top of the valley to the
bottom.
When the water meets a layer of clay, above another layer of clay, it is forced to rise near
the “line of springs”.
The water in these springs has got a temperature of 9-
10°C in winter and 12-15°C in summer and it is rich of
minerals.
The water emerges in the “head” of the spring (the place where the water emerges) and then is distributed around it, where it can be used to irrigate fields.
The first document about fountains or springs is dated back to 1386, when the
excavations to deviate the water courses started.
The Lemene is alimented by spring water. The river starts in a spring water zone in the Po Valley. Then its water runs through Portogruaro toward Caorle. The river flows into the Adriatic Sea
The Lemene
Cinto’s LakesThe borrough is crossed by Caomaggiore and Reghena. The subsoil is crossed by Tagliamento river that aliments the spring waters. Then the springs aliment some little lakes that were once caves. Today they’re flooded and they are artificial lakes.
