Sybil Andrews Cottage Restoration. In 2008, the Sybil Andrews’ cottage and land was the fi rst property to be placed on the City of Campbell River Community Heritage Register.
Sybil Andrews (1898-1992) was a gifted, internationally renowned artist, famous for the linocuts she produced from the late 1920s through 1988. Sybil Andrews and her husband Walter Morgan, lived in the cottage for 45 years. The cottage became a centre for learning and artistic expression within the Campbell River community as Sybil Andrews produced her artwork and taught weekly art and music lessons there from 1960 to 1992.
In 2011, cottage restoration was completed with thanks to the support of community members, the Heritage Legacy Fund, the Coast Sustainability Land Trust, Heritage BC, the Sybil Andrews Heritage Society and the City of Campbell River. Restoration works included a new foundation, drainage improvements, a new roof, the installation of a wheelchair ramp and access door and landscaping upgrades.

Good Timber – Songs & Stories of the Western Logger
Good Timber is a musical revue marrying music, poetry, and video imagery - part music concert and part history lesson. The poetry written by Robert Swanson and others, set to music, leads us to discover what it must have been like to be a logger in the early to mid-20th century. It was a time when logging was undergoing many changes, chainsaws were replacing handsaws; diesel-powered engines replaced steam. The traditional logger lifestyle was becoming extinct.
You’ll hear tales of chokermen, punks, apes and cat skinners as well as hardworking locomotives, chewing tobacco, card-hustling women and frozen loggers.

SWIM TO SURVIVEFun & Educational Daycamp 7-10yrsThis program has been introduced to teach children the necessary self-rescue skills in and around water. This program is offered at an affordable rate and is available to children aged 7-10 years old. Enjoy your summer vacation with us. Don’t forget to bring a lunch, lots of towels and a change of clothes you can swim in (including shoes). Each day includes a swim lesson, survival training, cool aquatics activities and much, much more. Participants must be able to swim at least 25 meters (1 length of the pool). The facts may surprise you:
➲ Most drownings occur only 3 to 15 metres away from shore or a point of safety - lean to swim and reduce the risk.➲ Two-thirds of drowning victims had no intention of entering the water and died as result of unplanned immersion. They did not have the necessary self-rescue skills to survive the incident.
Learn essential self-rescue skills:➲ Learn how to get oriented after an unexpected entry. During a fall into water, learn to get your head above the water and avoid breathing it in.➲ Learn how to support yourself at the surface.➲ Swim to safety – learning to swim a standard distance of 50 metres could prevent a water-related incident and save your life.
Swimming is an important life skill:➲ Acquiring a basic swimming ability is a fundamental requirement in the attempt to eliminate drowning.➲ Swimming is among the top recreation choices for Canadians. Learning to swim can help you enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle that includes fi tness and recreation.Dates: July 25-29, 2011 (5 classes)Times: 10:00-3:00 pmCost: $90.00

MSUMMER DODGEBALL LEAGUE 16yrs+Dodgeball is a fun sport that can be played by people of all ages and abilities. It is growing in popularity with adults at high schools, colleges and community centres across the province. The Comox Valley already has 2 leagues with several divisions. For those of you that have never played - the main objective of each team is to eliminate all members of the opposing team by hitting them with thrown balls, catching a ball thrown by a member of the opposing team, or forcing them to move outside the court boundaries when a ball is thrown at them. Please read a summary of the rules for more information. If you are looking for something fun and unique to do this summer—register as either an individual or get your friends together and register as a team for the Summer Dodgeball League. Dates: July 12 - Aug. 18, 2011 (6 nights of fun)Times: Tuesdays 6:00-7:00pm and/or Thursdays 7:00-8:00pmCost: $35.00 per individual $250.00 per team DODGEBALL RULES:THE TEAMTeams will be made up of 6-10 players. THE EQUIPMENTThe offi cial ball used in tournament and league play will be an 8.25" rubber-coated foam ball. THE GAMEThe object of the game is to eliminate all opposing players by getting them "OUT".
