Fabric strips and large triangles combine with one large square to create this colorful spring runner.

PROJECT SPECIFICATIONS Runner Size: Approximately 46" x 16 1/2"

FABRIC & BATTING • 1/8 yard each lavender, purple and green mottleds • 1/2 yard pink mottled • 5/8 yard floral print • Backing 50" x 20" • Batting 50" x 20" • 4 yards self-made or purchased binding

SUPPLIES & TOOLS • All-purpose thread to match fabrics • Off-white quilting thread • Basic sewing tools and supplies, rotary cutter, mat and ruler

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Cut one 10" x 10" and two 10 3/8" x 10 3/8" squares flo­ral print.

2. Cut each larger floral-print square in half on one diago­nal to make triangles.

3. Cut two strips each 1 1/2" by fabric width lavender, green and purple mottleds and four strips pink mottled.

4. Sew the strips along length with right sides together in the following order: purple, pink, green, lavender and pink. Press seams in one direction. Repeat for two strip sets.

5. Cut eight A triangles 10 3/8" on the long edges from the strip sets as shown in Figure 1, cutting four with long pink edges and four with long purple edges.

6. Sew two A triangles with purple long edges to a floral print triangle as shown in Figure 2; repeat. Press seams toward pieced triangles.

7. Sew an A triangle with pink long edges to each side of the floral print square, again referring to Figure 2; repeat. Press seams toward pieced triangles.

8. Sew a bordered triangle to opposite sides of the bordered square; press. Sew one of the remaining floral print triangles to each end; press.

9. Cut two 2" x 29" strips pink mottled; sew a strip to oppo-site long sides of the pieced section. Press seams toward strips; trim ends of strips at an angle using the end triangle as a guide as shown in Figure 3.

10. Cut four 2" x 18" strips pink mottled. Sew a strip to one side of one triangle end, leaving excess at each end as shown in Figure 4; press seams toward strips. Trim ends even with triangle and side border edges, again referring to Figure 4. Repeat on the adjacent side and on opposite end to complete the pieced top.

11. Sandwich batting between the completed top and pre-pared backing piece; pin or baste to hold.

12. Quilt as desired by hand or machine. Note: The sample shown was hand-quilted in the seams of strips and in straight lines 1 1/4" apart on the triangles and center square using off-white quilting thread.

13. Remove pins or basting. Trim edges even with top. Bind edges of quilt with self-made or purchased binding to finish. ✜
