On hursday 5th May, the irst an‐nual Spelling Bee was held for all students in the junior forms. Here are some contestants' feelings about the event on that day.

Last hursday was an exciting day for me because I had to go up on stage and join a competition for my house. I felt a little scared that I needed to go on the stage. On hursday morning, I had to go to the washroom many times because I was so nervous! Ater the art lesson, I knew that the Spelling Bee would start soon enough. When the bell rang, we had to go up on the stage

and the competition started. here were eight students on the stage in‐cluding me and I felt very nervous that four hundred students were looking at me. he competition be‐gan. I was the irst one to spell a word and the next one would be Wasim who is also in Kapok House. he word I had to spell was not diffi‐

cult so I passed. he competition was very exciting because almost all of the students spelled their words correctly. Ater a while, a few stu‐dents spelled their words wrongly and I felt more relaxed. Finally, there were two students still on the stage - a girl called Ada from 1A, who was

very brilliant, and the other one was me! It was a surprise for me because I was so nervous that I had won‐dered if I would forget all of the words. I feel very glad that I won the Spelling Bee and it was a new expe‐rience for me.

By Kenny. Cheng Rongxin, 1B (4).

his is the irst time that I have joined an inter-house contest. I think the competition was easy but there was still a lot of pressure on us because we had to do it on the stage in the hall. Also, there was the pres‐sure of being a representative for our house. I did not want to bring any shame on my house, but it was still my pleasure to be a contestant in this competition. During the contest, all of the contestants from my form were brilliant. All of them did a great job. Before the competi‐tion, I did not know who would be my partner from my house but dur‐ing the recess, I learned that my partner came from 3B. I lost in the competition because I didn't know how to spell the word 'demonstrate' but my partner kept on ighting for the irst place. I felt guilty because I went out in the irst difficult round and let her to ight alone against the other contestants in the Spelling Bee. I hope I can join this kind of in‐ter-house competition again in the future and that my performance will be better next time!

As money, fame and lifestyle be‐come our measures of success in ev‐eryday life, it is normal that educa‐tion is changing. It is becoming a tool to help us achieve economic success instead of simply a tool for acquiring knowledge for its own sake. Financial success depends on success in examinations and nowa‐days cram schools are the norm, teaching students how to answer exam questions mechanically. Revis‐ing the things written in books seems to be all that we need to do, but even in this society we should bear in mind that school is an op‐portunity to broaden our minds, not only to pass examinations.

For students nowadays, boosting our interest in studying is essential. We must remember that when learning, the quality of what we learn is more vital than the quantity. We are at school to become well ed‐ucated and not only well trained. However, the responsibility does not only lie with students. Schools in Hong Kong must also make sure that their students know their value is not rated by a report card or qual‐

iication. Students' interest in study must not be damaged by the pres‐sure of education. In contrast, school must work hard to make edu‐cation inspiring and varied.

Education is so important that it can change and shape the minds of stu‐dents. Education must enable stu‐dents to have a creative and open mind in order that Hong Kong can have a bright future. If students are not given the opportunity to be cre‐ative while they are at school, there

will be less genius in society and Hong Kong's economy may be dam‐

aged in the future. We acquire real knowledge when we are really studying. We gain happiness when we can learn what we are intrigued by. I hope all students will seize the opportunity to ind out what you re‐ally love and let it inspire you to learn.

In short, education is an important element in a modernized society but nevertheless, it is important for all of us that we remember its essential purpose. Changing society cannot be an excuse for changing the mean‐ing of education. All students, try to understand that you are not at school only to pass examinations but also to ind out who you are and

what you are interested in. Educa‐tion is so much more than a piece of paper, it is knowledge that can en‐rich and inspire us all.

his month, I would like to intro‐duce a recipe for a delicious dessert called Serradura. Of all the famous desserts in the world, why did I choose this one? Nowadays, Ser‐radura, which originated in Macau, has become famous all around the world. It is easy to make, which makes it suitable for students, who are beginners at cooking, to try. Now, let's take a look at the ingredi‐ents and cooking method.

Ingredients

· 250 ml. (1 cup) whipping cream

· 80 g. (2 2/3 oz.) Marie brand or other plain, sweet biscuits

· 50 g. (1 2.3 oz.) condensed milk

· 2/3 teaspoon vanilla essence

Method

1. Crush biscuits until they form a ine crumb or powder.

2. Whip whipping cream until it forms sot peaks.

3. Add vanilla essence and con‐densed milk to cream. (I recom‐

mend that you add 2/3 of condensed milk irst, taste, then add more if it needs to be sweeter.)

4. Continue whipping mixture until it forms stiff peaks. (You should be able to hold it upside-down over your head without it falling on you!)

5. Transfer mixture into a piping bag itted with a 1 or 2 cm. nozzle. Alter‐natively, you can use a spoon but the result will not be as neat.)

6. Place a layer of biscuit into a cup or glass (glass will be more beautiful). Pipe a layer of cream on top and repeat until cup or glass is illed. Do not add too much biscuit or inished dessert will look messy.

7. Chill in fridge for 2 hours. Bring to room temperature to serve (about 10 minutes.)

I hope you all enjoy this recipe and it will give you one more option to consider when you are choosing a dessert to make. Happy eating!

Have you ever imagined that volley‐ball could be the topic of a thrilling anime adventure? hat's right! Let us introduce you to the fast-paced world of Hakiyu. Hakiyu is a Japanese anime about teenagers who play volleyball for their school teams with their friends. In the series, we can always see them having compe‐titions against other teams. In the anime there are four main teams. Karasuno High School, Date Tech High School, Aoba Jousai High and Nekoma High School. Here is a brief introduction of each of the four teams.

From Karasuno High School, Hinata Shoyu is an energetic boy. He can jump very high and run from one side of the volleyball court to the other within a few seconds. Kageya‐ma Tobio can make decisions very

fast during competitions. He can set up his teammates to score very well. He started playing volleyball when he was in Primary Two. Although he can play volleyball very well, he lived a lonely life at junior high school. He was too controlling of his teammates on the court and just did what he wanted without considering the feelings of others. His teammates didn't like him so they never social‐ized with him. He was called 'the king of the court'. However, when he went to high school and met the rest of his team, they taught him that volleyball is about teamwork and he can't win by himself. herefore, he trained himself and leaned to play volleyball with them. He and Hinata became best friends and they have great ability when they play together. One of their special shots is called 'Monster Shot'. his shot is

so fast that their rivals can't see it. he second one is 'New Monster Shot'. his shot has greater power than the old one and it is something that only Hinata and Kageyama can do. Also, there are other teammates in Karasuno High School who have some special abilities. hey are Sawamura Daichi, Sugawara Koshi, Azumane Asahi, Tanaka Ryunosuke, Nishinoya Yu and Tsukishima Kei. hey help their team to get a lot of points too.

Ater introducing Karasuno High School, let's move on to Aroba Jou‐sai High School. he most talented player in their team is Oikawa Toru. He is just as talented at volleyball as Kageyama. However, he has a differ‐ent style of playing volleyball. He knows methods of playing that the team from Karasuno don't know.

hat's why, when the two teams irst played each other, Kageyama's team lost a match for the irst time ever. It was a great shock for them but they will surely update their skill set in the following episodes as a result.

In addition, Nekoma High School is really great too. he boy who has al‐ways been the leader of the team is called Kuro Tetsuro. He is well known for being real ly ta l l . However, he gets a new teammate called Haiba Lev who is much taller than him. Haiba can jump very high, actually just as high as Hinata Shoyu. he setter from this school is very smart. His name is Kozume Kenma. He is good at setting up the ball for his teammates but he hates practicing.

he inal school in this anime is Date Tech High School. heir team specialize in defending. One mem‐

ber of their team is Aone Takanobu. He is a quick witted boy who can make judgements quickly. He has very fast relexes and can put his hand to the let or the right in an in‐stant to prevent the rival team from scoring points.

One of the most interesting relation‐ships in Hakiyu is the one between Hinata Shoyu and Kageyama Tobio. You shouldn't think that they were good teammates and friends imme‐diately. he irst time that they met each other, they hated each other very much. hey couldn't work to‐gether and always had arguments with each other. One day, during a practice session, they decided to try

their best to work together. Unfortu‐nately, it didn't work well. heir tim‐

ing was not right and the result was that Hinata fell into the net many times. His hand and leg kept getting stuck in the holes in the net which was very frustrating for him. How‐ever, over time, they kept on trying and learned to work as a team. hey found out that good teamwork needs time and effort.

Finally, one other great thing about Hakiyu is the music. One of the greatest songs is called 'Imagination'. It is a lively and energetic rock song. here are many great songs in Hakiyu but this one is the best. Overall, Hakiyu is interesting and exciting. If you are interested in this anime ater reading this article, re‐member to watch it. here are al‐ready two seasons of Hakiyu and a new episode is released every Satur‐day.

Yamada Ryosuke is an amazing and talented star. He is a Japanese actor, singer, dancer, songwriter, voice ac‐tor and a member of not one but two Japanese boy bands, Hey! Say! Jump and NYC.

Yamada was born on 9th May, 1993 and now is aged just 23 years old. He has achieved so much despite his very young age. He was born in Tokyo, Japan. Ater launching his

music career in 2007, Yamada re‐leased his number one debut solo single 'Mystery Virgin' in 2013.

I like him because he is multi-talent‐ed. Not only are his songs good, but his movies are also excellent. It is so impressive to have so many talents at such a young age. We can all learn a great deal from his passion and dedication. His greatest movies, in my opinion, are 'Hidarime Tantei EYE' and 'Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo' because these two are both mystery movies. he latter is about murders which happen and Yamada has to ind the killers. His character is the grandson of a great detective called Kosuke Kindaichi and he is also very clever. He can always solve the cases using his intelligence. I think it's great for teenagers to have a positive role model like him to look up to.

Yamada is also very handsome and he is well-known all over the world for his good looks and his singing and acting talents. Dear readers, I

hope he can be a positive inluence on your lives too because he has never given up although he has failed many times. He is my idol and I hope you like him too!

We are all familiar with Taylor Swit. She is an American singer-songwrit‐er whose cute appearance and catchy melodies bring happiness to millions of teenagers every day. She was born on December 13th 1989 and is now 26 years old. But do you know how Taylor Swit discovered her passion for music? Ater spend‐ing the early years of her life grow‐

ing up on a Christmas tree farm, at the age of nine, Taylor became inter‐ested in musical theatre. She joined the Berks Youth heatre Academy and performed in four of their pro‐ductions. Ater that, she decided that she wanted to get into showbiz and spent her weekends performing at local festivals and coffee houses in order to attract agents and fans.

Taylor Swit's songs are not only catchy, they also help her teenage fans through struggles in their lives.

For example, her song 'We Are Nev‐er Ever Getting Back Together' is about her relationship with her ex-boyfriend. he song lyrics depict her

frustrations when he wants to rekin‐dle their romance. Another of her songs, 'I Knew You Were Trouble', is a good song too! Its lyrics are about a relationship which has ended but the singer had always known how the relationship would end from the beginning, so she doesn't feel much heartache. I think we all have the ex‐perience of doing something that we know is not good for us because it makes us feel happy at the time. But maybe Taylor is telling us that we should think more before we act.

So the next time you listen to a Tay‐lor Swit song, don't just think about how pretty she is but let her lyrics have a positive inluence of your life. Taylor Swit is a very pretty lady but what's more important, she is a posi‐tive role model for young people.

Recently, I had lunch in a restaurant called Hokkaido Dairy Farm which is located on the 3rd loor of the Luk Yeung shopping mall. It sells dishes that are quite common Japanese style food in Hong Kong such as spaghetti, curry and rice dishes as well as their most famous dish - scrambled eggs. I was so excited to try a new restaurant and I expected that the dishes would be big and of high quality, since each dish is so ex‐pensive.

I ordered a spaghetti dish from the student set menu. It cost $36 which included a hot drink. Unfortunately, the dish did not meet my expecta‐tions. It was small and looked like a cheap dish without any decorations to make it attractive. he quality of the spaghetti did not match the price that I had paid for it. he taste

of it was even worse than the food from a fast food shop. hat made me

angry!

What's more, the service there was not good. he staff were quite rude and seemed in a hurry when they served us. In addition, the seats were too small and too close to the other tables. It wasn't a comfortable envi‐ronment for students to sit in.

To sum up, I think Hokkaido Dairy Farm is one of the worst restaurants that I have been to. I don't think that I will have lunch there again and I don't recommend this restaurant to anybody.

Last Sunday, I went to a restaurant in Mong Kok called 'HeSheEat' which is a popular restaurant for its tasty desserts and beautiful building. Many girls like to go there to take photos.

First, let me tell you about the food there. here is a wide variety of desserts such as cake, milkshakes and waffles as well as healthy salads. he waffles are the most famous dish there but personally, I enjoyed an‐

other dessert more. It was a dessert made using a special chemical cook‐ing technique called molecular gas‐tronomy. It was covered in cream cheese and topped with some dried beetroot. I thought this was fantastic and unusual.

In addition, I loved the decoration in the restaurant. here was a pink

wall which was amazing and great for taking photos there. I think the restaurant was spacious and cus‐tomers could sit comfortably and enjoy their meals.

However, there were some disadvan‐tages to this restaurant. It was quite difficult to ind and the price of the food there was quite expensive. Luckily, there was a discount provid‐ed for students. As a result, I would strongly recommend this restaurant to all of you readers.

Hong Kong students tend to live un‐der a high level of stress. For junior form students, they have to deal with such problems as adjusting to life at a new school, making friends and solving family arguments. Some students ind it hard to communi‐cate with their parents and, under stress, their relationships can be‐come worse and worse. Moreover, the Hong Kong education system's focus on rigorous schoolwork may be contributing to teenagers' anxiety.

How can we prevent students from getting overwhelmed and help them to enjoy their school lives? If you feel stressed or unhappy, you can talk to your teachers. he govern‐ment has already started to send psychologists to train teachers on how to understand teenagers and to listen to their problems. Children and parents should also talk to each other frequently. By keeping com‐

munication open, you can under‐stand each other better and disputes will be less likely to arise.

In addition, students should take care of each other. Pay attention to your friends and classmates to make sure that they are happy and not having problems in their lives. If you ind that your friends are not eating regularly or seem distracted when you talk to them, they may be hav‐ing some problems in their lives. If this happens, please seek help from your teachers, parents or friends.

Some students may have difficulties with communication skills and may ind it difficult to make friends with others. his can easily lead to loneli‐ness and unhappiness. If this is the case for you, you should participate in ore extra-curricular activities. Al‐ways be friendly and conident and this will help you to enlarge your so‐cial circle.

In addition, poor time management can be another cause of stress. Some students ind it really difficult to manage all their schoolwork and feel unhappy because they can't catch up with the lessons or always get pun‐ished by the teachers. If this is you, you should set yourself a timetable and make a promise to yourself that you will follow it. his can improve your time management skills.

All students, remember that school is not only a place where you should focus on academic results but also your all-round development. Diver‐sifying your own school life is so im‐

portant that it can affect your whole life.

From 19th to 21st November 2015, Form Two students took part in the most unforgettable camp that we have ever experienced. During those days, every class became united. Ev‐eryone had a target. We hoped that we could achieve success in the camp and return home safely in the end!

Before the camp, we were scared! We didn't really know what to ex‐pect but we had heard that the camp was horrible. We didn't know what kinds of difficulties we would face and we were afraid to face the un‐known.

19th November was the irst day of our camp. As our teachers had warned us, it wasn't easy. All the coaches were strict and harsh. If we did anything that they disliked, they told us to do push-ups. I was furious and resented them deeply at that time. Now I look back at myself then, I feel I was such a naïve and simple child. I didn't know that the coaches were just trying to help me. I kept asking myself why they forced us to do such difficult exercise but I

found the answer on the following days.

On the second day of the camp, we found it so difficult to get up. None of us could move and the whole of our bodies felt painful. he coaches seemed disappointed in us, they told us we were as weak as little babies. I felt so angry; how could the coaches criticize us so harshly while they stood there feeling so relaxed? hey didn't understand how we felt. I wanted to be better. I wanted to prove to them that we were not ba‐bies. We were Form 2 students from

LPSMC! So, we all worked even harder than we had on the irst day! We didn't know at the time, but this was actually the coaches' way of in‐spiring us to push ourselves beyond our limits.

hat night, our principal brought some desserts to us. We felt so touched by that. he desserts felt like a sweet end to a hard day. hank you Ms. Law for that sweet moment!

he third day was the last day. We all found that we really loved the camp and none of us wanted to leave. However, we had to leave it. We had all grown up during the camp. We learned that we had to take care of each other as well as ourselves. We also learned that we had to respect each other. All the difficulties we had to face in the camp represented hard times that we will have to face in the future. We have to be strong, not as weak as little babies.

Dear Form One students, don't be scared when you think about the camp next year. It will be difficult but in the end you will love it and it will make you a strong and grown up person. You should look forward to it and always do your best no matter what!
