SCHOOL–AGE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION (SAPC) Upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded the SAPC from the Florida Department of Education. The SAPC is recognized as a Florida staff credential. Graduates also may receive college credits toward Palm Beach State’s Associate in Science degree program in Human Services, with a concentration in Youth Development.

School-Age Professional Certification (SAPC)

Course Description: This training is ideal for individuals working in an after-school setting serving children 5 years and up. The entire course is based on competency performance, full participation by the candidate, questionnaires, observations, interview and a Portfolio and Resource File compiled by the candidate as part of the course. Participants successfully completing the entire course curriculum Module I and II plus an observation will receive the School Age Professional Certificate.

Pre-requisites: SAPC Information Session 40-Hour School-Age Certification Part I and Part II Curriculum (AYD) Training Program or 40- Hour Introductory Child Care Certification with AYD training High School diploma or GED equivalent on file at the college Employed in a licensed childcare setting or afterschool program caring for school-age children ages 5 – 12 years old 480 hours of work experience in an afterschool program working with children ages 5 and up

within the past 5 years (80 of these hours must be completed while enrolled in the training program)

18 years of age High School Diploma or GED

SAPC Observation: A 2 hour Formal Observation of the candidate by the Instructor during normal days when

the candidate fulfills a leadership role in working with children and demonstrates competence as indicated in the Florida School-Age Certification Training Program Competency Standards. Evaluations will be completed by the Instructor through competency fulfillment, Portfolio and Resource File completion and review, and successful observation and interview by Instructor. This observation must be completed before the end of Module II at candidate worksite. Time to be determined by Advisor/Instructor and Candidate.

Career Path Notes

A Student who has earned a Department of Education SAPC Certificate, completed 15 college credits at Palm Beach State College towards their degree and has a program objective code of 6387 (Associate in Science Degree: Human Services - Youth Development Concentration), will be eligible for articulation into 3 college credits upon request. The credits will be for the following course: HUS1620-Principles and Best Practices in Afterschool Programs.

Introductory Childhood Programs - PSAV

PART I – School Age Program Certification (HEV0803) Part I will focus on State rules and regulations; health, safety and nutrition; identifying and reporting child abuse; and school age appropriate practices. Part I requires that the participant pass a competency exam with a score of 70% or higher given by Department of Children & Families.
