Spring FLEX 2017: Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 27Full Detail

Welcome, College of the Desert Faculty and Staff, to Spring FLEX 2017.

Due to Intersession, we will only have two FLEX days this term. However, those two days are packed with Professional Development goodness.

First, prior to official FLEX days, Kurt Leuschner is offering a guided walk at The Living Desert on Wednesday, January 25. If you are interested, please be sure to RSVP with Kurt.

On Thursday, FLEX sessions are centered about the annual Employee Service Awards and Recognition as well as the President’s Message. In a twist from the normal, President Kinnamon will be presenting his State of the College as a part of the All Staff Lunch.

The Educational Master Plan plays a large role in Friday’s schedule. With the passage of Measure CC, the EMP will play an important role in determining how those monies are spent. Attendance is encouraged.

Please remember that since this is a shorter FLEX calendar than that in the Fall, FullTime Faculty are required to complete 8 hours of FLEX activities for the term. Adjunct Faculty are still eligible to be paid for up to 12 hours of FLEX activities.

Be on the lookout for Spring FLEX contracts in your School offices.

Here’s to a good FLEX and a great Spring semester.

Student and Program Learning Outcomes: From Development to AssessmentN 4

Assessing our students' learning has always been a part of every faculty member's professional responsibilities. With the 2014 revised accreditation standards, however, outcomes assessment, evaluation of assessment data, and reporting are required for nearly all college functions. This session will explore best practices in writing student and program learning outcomes and explore ways in which the increased use of outcomes assessment can lead to true institutional improvement.
