Sika Sarnafil® PVC membrane is produced with a special recipe. Its life expectancy of the whole waterproofing system is over 20 years for roofing (BBA Certified), by far exceeding the normal PVC waterproofing systems. This outstanding advantage makes Sika Sarnafil® products widely used in various waterproofing fields.

Patrick’s Warehouse in White Island, Queensland built a new warehouse to store dangerous goods such as fertilizers, dangerous liquids etc. A product was required for the warehouse slab to reduce dust and improve the chemical and abrasion resistance. The topping needed to be clear, non-toxic and handle the dangerous goods as well as the heavy traffic of forklifts, trolleys etc. Concord chemical applicators scrubbed the entire floor and applied Sikafloor® CureHard 24 to give a dustproof and hardened floor. Total floor area was 12,000m2.

The versatility of Sika Sarnafil® membrane systems with mechanically fixed, fully adhered or ballasted restraining methods means that almost all kinds of substrates can be easily and successfully waterproofed. Suitable substrates include steel, concrete, timber and other existing roof finishes such as deteriorated and traditional bitumen materials.

A commercial building in Sydney’s CBD district required a new waterproofing membrane due to the deterioration of the existing bitumen sheet membrane. Sika Sarnafil® G410-15L Felt, fully adhered system was chosen because of its compatibility with bitumen based materials as well as being durable, economical and easily installed. The system consists of the following:

Sika Sarnafil® G410-15L Felt is a high quality PVC membrane containing ultraviolet light stabilisers and glass fibre carrier. The membrane has a unique lacquer finish coating applied to the top of the membrane to resist

staining from airborne dust and pollutants. In addition Sika Sarnafil® G410-15L Felt offers exceptional dimensional stability and a low coefficient of thermal expansion.

Sarnacol 2142S is a polyurethane adhesive suitable for adhering PVC felt backed membranes to bitumen and to most other common substrates. The colour of this product is blue for quick identification.

Abasco Waterpoofing was chosen to install the membranes because of their proven record with Sika’s PVC membranes.

Northside Meat Supply - Sikafloor® - PurCem FGNorthside Meat Supply (WA) approached Antiskid Industries to locate and supply a heavy duty flooring system for their new operation in Malaga. The owner had lost confidence in previous systems used. The floor required extreme temperature resistance for cooking (steam), high impact resistance (boning room) and

needed to be available in “non-slip” as well as in a range of colours for cross-contamination purposes. After consultation with Sika WA, Sikafloor®- PurCem FG was recommended to provide the ultimate flooring system for Northside Meat Supplies new facility. Red, green, grey and yellow were used over a total floor area of 600m2.

Sikafloor® - PurCem FG provides extreme

temperature resistance, is non-slip and available in a

range of colours.

Sydney Water - Concrete Protection

Concrete used in sewerage treatment structures, such as STP and sewerage pipe culverts, requires extensive design considerations, including a resistance to aggressive effluents, a dense and impermeable finish, a resistance to wear and abrasion, and smooth crack free surfaces. The aggressive affect of water borne waste on concrete is dependant on the chemical constituent and concentration of the contaminants, the pH value of the materials, temperature within the containment vessel or conduit, and oxygen supply. However, like all concrete structures, its durability is largely determined by its resistance to the ingress of liquid or gaseous substances.

In order to fully protect the concrete and at the same time to minimise the maintenance in the years to come, Sikagard® Bund Lining System is commonly used as a first line of defence. The system consists of the cementitious epoxy mortar that can be applied on damp substrates, Sikagard® 720 EpoCem, and a high chemical resistant epoxy coating from the Sikagard® range. Sika’s range of watertight joint sealants also can be a vital part of the refurbishments. For expansion and construction joints Sikadur-Combiflex® is a high performance joint sealing system, consisting of Sika Norm Hypalon Tape adhered to the substrate with Sikadur®-31, epoxy

Sikaflex® Tank is a one component, thixotropic; polyurethane based joint sealant with movement capability of 25% and excellent chemical resistance to a wide variety of chemicals. Sika’s solution for crack sealing has been extensively used worldwide. Sikadur®-51 is a two component joint sealant based on flexible resin with excellent chemical resistance and quick setting.Sika recommended Gabco to complete the work on all of the below mentioned projects because of their familiarity with the Sika products.

Hillsong Chapel - Sikaflex® PRO

“...Sikaflex® PRO offers superior performance and

colour retention, it also comes in a wide variety of

colours and it is extremely flexible.”

HH Robertson is one of Australia’s leading composite panel suppliers; they have recently completed the New Hillsong Chapel located in Sydney’s Norwest Business Park.

This land mark structure was fitted with Reynobond Aluminium Composite panel to enable the designers the ability to achieve the curved sloping roof. The joints were sealed with Sikaflex®-PRO to ensure a seamless watertight appearance.

HH Robertson’s General Manager, Gary Norris said that “Sikaflex® PRO is our first choice when it comes to joint sealing, we believe that it offers superior performance and colour retention, it also comes in a wide variety of colours and it is extremely flexible to cope with the thermal expansion and contraction of our panels”.

Emporium Building - Sika CarboDur®

Sika Australia was approached by Hutchinson Builders to offer an engineering solution for the Emporium Building, Brisbane QLD. Two sections (Eastern and Western ends) within the existing first floor concrete slab required strengthening.

The Eastern End slab duty was to be changed from an office floor to a conference room. The Western End needed to be prepared for additional loading when a bridge walkway was constructed in future planning.

Sika contacted Alliance Consulting Engineers to design a strengthening solution from its range of Structural Strengthening products. Sika CarboDur® is a range of carbon fibre laminates, which are supplied in various thicknesses and widths depending on the requirements of the project. They chose the Sika CarboDur®-S812 on the Eastern End and the Sika CarboDur®-M1214 on the Western End.

Sika nominated Building Rectification Services to Hutchinson Builders to undertake installation of the Sika CarboDur® strips.

Alliance Consulting Engineers recommended that in areas where access to the underside of the slab was limited, the Sika CarboDur® laminates be placed on the top side.

Hutchinson Builders, one of the largest building companies in Queensland, were very pleased with the work conducted by Building Rectification Services and the technical assistance provided by Sika Australia.

This project proved to be a good reference for both Building Rectification Services and Sika who now look forward to future business dealings with Hutchinson builders.

Laid with Sika CarboDur®-M1214, the Western end slab is prepared for additional loading for a future bridge walkway.
