GREAT NEWS from the Education Committee
“Can we get a loud AMEN!” Following the King’s Kids informational/organizational meeting held on September 18, it was determined that Hope UMC will be moving forward on reviving this Christ-based learning opportunity for all the children in our county. We have a lot of planning to do, but are determined to do what it takes to make this program a success. We will do all we can to keep the members of Hope updated as we prepare to get King’s Kids up and rolling again.
Here are the details we can share at this time: Offered to Prep Kindergarten thru sixth grade students.
3:15-5:00 p.m. Twice a month (when possible)
October 23 November 13, 20 December 11, 18 (?) January 8,15 February 5, 19 March 4, 18 April 8, 22 Schedule will include time for snacks, games, music, Bible lessons, crafts, sharing of joys and concerns, service projects, prayer, etc. We are presently drafting an informational letter and registration form that we will send to the parents of the children we have on file from VBS and Sunday School . When finalized, we will be making this information available to members of the congregation so that you may share it with your neighbors, family, and friends. We definitely need your help in getting the word out about King’s Kids! Our biggest request at this time is that you all remember King’s Kids in your daily prayers. Keep your eyes open for updates in the bulletins and newsletter! Remember King's Kids is in addition to regular Sunday School not a replacement. God's Blessings!

If you want to make a purchase, please contact Vicki Kerns or Candace Larson.
You can also advance-order sun catchers made from our stained-glass windows.
Those will be completed in time for Christmas giving!

The I-Smile Silver pilot project is to benefit adults age 60 and over who reside in these counties: Calhoun, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Webster and Wright.
Part of the services are: screenings provided at no cost, information on dental insurance options, referrals to dentists accepting Medicaid under the Dental Wellness
Plan (Delta or MCNA), referrals for emergency dental needs. The i-Smile Silver pilot project is supported by the Lifelong Smiles
Coalition, which includes representatives from various organizations serving older Iowans, including but not limited to
Iowa Association of Area Agencies on Aging, Iowa Health Care Associations and Leading Age Iowa.

of Public Health. Contact Amber Cooke at 515-573-4107 ext 4031 or [email protected]
From the Hope UMC library for October As the weather gets cooler, what could be better than cozying up
with a blanket and a good book? If there are too many distractions
at home for that scenario, consider our library! We have a comfy
chair (complete with blanket!) and shelves full of books in a warm,
quiet room located off the chapel. Just
bring an insulated mug of coffee or hot
cocoa and enjoy!!
Waiting for someone? Walking at church and need a break?
Arrive early for a meeting? The library is not only a great place to
read, but also to rest, reflect, and pray. There is a small table and
chairs (and children’s books, too) for the little ones to enjoy as well! Please remember
this valuable resource Hope UMC has to offer.
MISSIONS
KITS: Please have kits at the Pocahontas Center before Monday, October 28. Re-member the $2.00 kit for shipping – please put in the offering plate and designate “kits.” No longer are we collecting $1 for toothpaste. Combs are now available at Dollar General. The kits will be boxed October 28 at 1 PM. Extra help is welcome!! Bring a pair of scissors. Thanksgiving Ingathering will be held Saturday, November 3 in Cherokee.
BLANKET SUNDAYS: Church World Service continues to rush supplies to families and communities in need around the world – especially in the aftermath of disasters such as Hurricane Dorian, the worst hurricane on record to hit the Bahamas. Our donations to CWS blankets assure that there are always blankets ready to go. Hope UMC has designated October as CWS Blanket Month. $10 will purchase a blanket that can provide warmth and shelter, comfort and privacy, and healing and hope wherever God’s people are in need of care. “And don’t forget to do good and share with those in need.” Hebrews 13:16
BINGO: We need prizes for October and November. Personal care items, especially
shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and body wash are very popular. Don’t get containers that are too small to be practical. Also nonfood kitchen items go quickly.
SATURDAY SUPPER UPDATE: The committee met recently and, with regrets, decided to discontinue this ministry. The Saturday Suppers began in October of 2016 and will be discontinued at the end of this year. Financially the program is sustainable thanks to a Matthew 25 grant through the annual conference of the UMC and your donations. However the volunteers, especially those preparing the meals, needed a break. A huge THANK YOU to all of you who provided desserts and salads, helped set up or washed dishes, called Bingo, and provided great Bingo prizes. This ministry would not have happened without your faithful support.
Do you have Bibles at home not being used?
"Glory to God for enabling me to be able to know Christ. I can now have the Bible I can call my own." (an excerpt for Kenya)
Since 1997, TORM has shipped abroad and distributed in the USA over
327,000 Bibles, 137,000 books and over 1 million pieces of Christian literature. Glory to God!
2,429 Bibles have been received thus far this year!
Mary Turner collects these and sends these to TORM (Times of refreshing ministries) who in turn sends them to people who need them desperately. Please bring in your unused bibles and place them on the table at the east
end of the Fellowship Hall and she will pick them up. Thank you for all your
