It'll be good for all requests, all year! January - March Sign into Naviance Student Connection to COMPLETE YOUR SENIOR SURVEY. Check out the site, search College Super Match, watch videos on how to request transcripts and teacher recommendations, start a resume, or learn how to link The Common App to Naviance. Watch the mail or e-mail for your Student Aid Report (SAR) from Financial Aid. Carefully examine the results. A mistake could cause you to miss out on college funding. Register to take the SAT/ACT, if necessary. Submit other required financial aid forms. Check financial aid requirements for each college you are applying to. Stay organized: Keep copies of applications and email. Keep your calendar up-to-date with important dates and deadlines. Continue searching for scholarship opportunities. Make plans to visit campuses and meet with college reps visiting during SHS lunchtime. Go to College Night Plus at JMU, held every September. Respond quickly to college requests for additional documentation. Don’t panic if you are selected for verification for financial aid. Just provide the college with the documents they need. Ask Mrs. Garber for help. Complete a Graduation Contract with your counselor October Spring to Graduation Ask for letters of recommendation from teachers, coaches, counselors, or employers who know you well. NOTE: check if teacher recommendations are desired or even required, is there a limit on # of recommendations? Follow the college's instructions! College decisions and financial aid packages start arriving. Continue searching for scholarship opportunities. Make a decision (most colleges request your reply by May 1) and send in your tuition deposit. Notify other colleges that you will not be attending. The 2019–20 FAFSA will launch on Oct. 1, 2018. Complete your End of Year Senior Survey: Let your school counselor know where you are attending college (if applicable) so that they can send your final transcripts. “Early Decision” candidates should complete college applications. Notify the college financial aid office of any additional funding you will be receiving (scholarships and loans, etc.). Work on admissions application essays. Have at least one other person proofread your essay. November - December Evaluate student loan lenders and take time to understand student loans. Check out scholarships in the Counseling Office and at: shs. rockingham.k12.va.us/scholarships Continue completing your college applications. Send thank you notes to individuals who helped you get in college or get your job. (Scholarship awards, people who wrote recommendations and reference letters, etc.) Last chance to register for Dec SAT & ACT exams Teachers have winter break too!
