We do hope you will find it informative and enjoy it. We are both so privileged and honoured to be leading the All Nations family at this exciting time in our journey. The Holy Spirit is clearly leading and guiding us deeper into relationship with God and to connect in new and authentic ways with the world

in which we are placed.

We are called to be an Authentic Community Transforming Society (ACTS). This is an ever unfolding adventure that we are learning to navigate together. You matter and are not here by accident but are placed in the family by God’s divine plan. A part of the adventure is to discover our place and to function

in it. We’re praying that each one of you will know your purpose and fit within the family.

‘He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love. ‘ Ephesians 4:16 (MSG)

5 JOYS TO GATHERINGI OBSERVED A TREND WITHIN CHURCHES BOTH FOR US HERE IN WOLVERHAMPTON BUT ALSO

AS I HAVE TRAVELLED THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. PEOPLE SEEM TO BE LESS COMMITTED TO THE WEEKLY SUNDAY GATHERING. THERE WAS A T IME WHERE IT WAS A F IRM COMMITMENT FOR MANY BUT NOW IT SEEMS THAT B I -WEEKLY AND EVEN LESS FREQUENT ATTENDANCE IS

BECOMING NORMAL.

Page 5: Spotlight Magazine Spring 2015

IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE COMMITTED TO THE GATHERING? I BEL IEVE SO AND HERE IS WHAT B IBLE SAYS;

JESUS WAS COMMITTED TO THE WEEKLY GATHERING

‘..AND ON THE SABBATH DAY HE WENT INTO THE SYNAGOGUE, AS WAS HIS CUSTOM…’ LUKE 4:16

– If it was an important commitment to Jesus, it should be to us.

– He modelled the life we should live.

BECAUSE IT’S COMMANDED

‘...NOT GIVING UP MEETING TOGETHER, AS SOME ARE IN THE HABIT OF DOING, BUT ENCOURAGING ONE ANOTHER —AND ALL THE MORE AS YOU SEE THE DAY APPROACHING.’ HEBREWS 10:24,25

– We are not to give up on meeting as some are in the habit of doing

– But we should encourage one another

BECAUSE IT SETS AN EXAMPLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN

‘START CHILDREN OFF ON THE WAY THEY SHOULD GO, AND EVEN WHEN THEY ARE OLD THEY WILL NOT TURN FROM IT.’ PROVERBS 22:6

– Children will do what their parents do. If you teach them that this commitment to gather with God’s people is non negotiable it sets a pattern for their future life.

– If you make it an option by your example they too will pick and choose their commitment to gathering with God’s people

BECAUSE ITS A WAY OF FIGHTING THE ENEMY

– You just never know what God will do in your heart. There have been unique moments where the Spirit has spoken directly to me in a worship service or through a sermon. Hope may be supernaturally imparted and courage given.

– One of the enemy’s schemes is to stop believers being in a Holy Spirit environment where God may strengthen, encourage and give perspective. Remember isolation is dangerous.

BECAUSE IT’S A WAY OF SERVING GOD AND OTHERS

‘LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND. ’THIS IS THE FIRST AND GREATEST COMMANDMENT. AND THE SECOND IS LIKE IT: ‘LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF. ’ MATTHEW 22:37-39

– When we gather it is for the Lord, to minister to Him and to hear what he is saying

– Secondly we should be looking for others to be a blessing and encouragement too.

I hope these simple but powerful reasons will help to reinforce the habit of gathering together as the Body of Christ. For hundreds of years believers have found tremendous strength and courage from obeying the New Testament command to gather. I pray that we will not let busyness, distraction or coldness of heart rob us and our families of this great virtue.

MEET SUNNY24 YEAR OLD SUNNY’S L IFE WAS TURNED UPSIDE DOWN AS HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SEVERE ILLNESS THAT CHANGED HIS L IFE FOREVER. HE TELLS HIS STORY

“In 2013, I went on holiday and when I came back off my holiday I started experiencing stomach pains. I thought it was a reaction to something from being abroad, but it suddenly got worse. I went to the GP, they did some tests and thought it was a liver infection. But the results came back all clear.

A week later, I started getting pains again. I went back to the GP and they prescribed me some antibiotics. On my way to work my stomach suddenly cramped. I was driving in the fast lane but had so much pain, I had to pull over on the hard shoulder and call my GP, he called me straight in. When I got there, the GP said, “I’ll write you a cover letter to take to the hospital”. I got to hospital, they did routine checks, took stool samples and told me “you’re not going anywhere”. The next thing I knew the doctors were injecting me with steroids.

The pain was so bad, it felt like I was being stabbed. They did a colonoscopy to look inside my body and found ulcers inside my stomach. They diagnosed the condition as Ulcerative Colitis. In the matter of two weeks I lost so much weight it felt like the life had been sucked out of me and I was bed bound.

The doctors were talking about fitting me with a colostomy bag. I just couldn’t get it out my head, I thought what does that mean? I’m not even married, how am I going to find someone? How will I hold down a job? I couldn’t believe this was happening to me.

A few people came from church and visited me, Pastor Isaac and Pastor Jagdish. They prayed for me. I had prayed before but hadn’t felt anything, but this time, something changed. The energy in the room changed, they were all praying individually but at the same time. I felt something inside of me shift, I felt moved and

uplifted. After they finished praying they said you will be healed and won’t need surgery.” I started to get better, but the Doctors told my parents to “prepare yourselves he will have to have surgery”.

After their visit, I began to recover and walk. It was two weeks into the treatment, so much had already happened, first I was told I was going to have surgery and a bag attached. I was full of faith and believed the words the Pastors spoke. I remember thinking ‘my birthday is coming soon, no way will I be here for my birthday’. My doctor came in to see me and said “you’re getting better we might discharge you”.

I came back home a day before my birthday and I couldn’t feel my legs because they felt like jelly. I saw Auntie Sam from church and she said to me, “Do you want to give your life to Jesus?” I said ‘Yes!’ away without thinking twice.

My parents were Sikhs as I had been brought up in a Sikh family, I didn’t know anything different but I wanted to speak to them before making this decision, as it’s a big thing to come out of one religion into another (although now I know it’s not a religion, it’s a relationship). They were happy for me to make the decision and were willing to support me through it too. The next day I gave my life to Jesus.

I give all the glory to God for making me better and stronger and it’s made my faith stronger. It proves that there is power in prayer and faith.

I have been walking with God for two years now and have recently been baptised and I know God has great plans in my life.”

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a disease of the colon and the rectum (the large intestine).

• Colitis means inflammation of the colon.

• Ulcerative means that ulcers tend to develop, often in places where there is inflammation. An ulcer occurs when the lining of the gut is damaged and the underlying tissue is exposed. If you could see inside your gastrointestinal tract (gut), an ulcer looks like a small, red crater on the inside lining of the gut. Ulcers that occur in UC develop in the large intestine and have a tendency to bleed.

The inflammation and ulcers in the large intestine cause the common symptoms of diarrhoea and passing blood and mucus.

TIM TALKS: WE CAUGHT UP WITH TIM TO CHAT ABOUT PRAYER...

WHEN DID YOU FIRST FEEL A CALL TO PRAYER?I have had the privilege of serving in the Body of Christ in prayer ministry for the last 19 years. This started when I heard prophetess Cindy Jacobs in a conference, who gave a call to prayer, and I responded. I have never been the same since.

WHY ARE YOU SO PASSIONATE ABOUT PRAYER?Prayer is a great privilege because it means spending time with God. I’ve never left prayer feeling like I’ve wasted my time. Nevertheless prayer is an unseen work of the Kingdom and a necessary one. I am passionate about prayer because I believe that God does nothing unless His people pray.

HOW DO YOU THINK PRAYER CAN TRANSFORM SOCIETY?Only God can change society but prayer moves God. History shows that God does nothing without first stirring someone to seek Him. Revolutions can be stilled, desperate needs met and economies rescued when God shows up as a response to prayer.

HOW WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE OTHERS IN THEIR PRAYER LIFE?Every believer has the desire to encounter God, but finding Him does not come through wishful thinking or good intentions; finding God only comes when we seek Him. This

comes through the activity of prayer. If we want to see our generation changed we cannot cut corners, it comes through finding God.

BEING A PRAYER LEADER SEEMS LIKE A BIG RESPONSIBILITY, WHAT DOES THAT INVOLVE?My desire is that the whole church would be praying, not just a select few. Prayer needs to become a part of our culture, our DNA. Eventually, I believe this will be 24/7. Overseeing prayer is not just leading prayer meetings. If I can live it, encourage it and facilitate its growth in All Nations then we will be on the journey to see this dream realised.

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST EXCITING ABOUT PRAYER?Personally, nothing comes close to meeting with our Heavenly Father, communicating with Him and being changed in His Presence. Corporately, it has been my honour seeing people meet with God and Him move on their behalf. I’ve always benefited from praying with the All Nations family. It strengthens me and my friendships too; you connect with those you pray with.

WE GET UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH ESTHER AS SHE SHARES ABOUT JESUS, FAMILY AND GROWING UP.

COFFEE WITH ESTHER

WHO IS ESTHER OUTSIDE CHURCH?

I am a Wife, Mother, Sister and Daughter. I’ve been married to Pastor Steve for 18 years. My kids are Bethany, Sophie, Joel and Judah (they’re growing up fast!). Being a wife and being a mum is my top priority, with Jesus first of all.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS?

I was born into a Christian family but had some powerful encounters with the Holy Spirit. At age 5, I gave my life to Jesus. I’d ask God; ‘If you are really real, I want to feel you’, and I would. I could feel His presence, hear His voice. I recommitted my life to Jesus in church, and got filled with the Holy Spirit as a teenager.

WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL?

I didn’t enjoy school, but I had some nice friends. I guess I enjoyed music and RE. I was much more practical (than academic).

WHAT WAS GROWING UP REALLY LIKE?

I was a very anxious and nervous child. I was very sensitive to spiritual things when I was younger and I think the enemy used that to try to weaken the prophetic gift that God wanted to birth.

Page 9: Spotlight Magazine Spring 2015

HAVE YOU EVER WRESTLED WITH INSECURITIES OVER THE YEARS?

Yes, for years I struggled with low self-esteem and developed an eating disorder and lost loads of weight. Our first couple of years in marriage was a real challenge, my self-view affected everything. I know I am free now and believe others can be too.

WHAT HAVE THESE CHALLENGES TAUGHT YOU?

I think through challenges you have an opportunity to get know Jesus. Actually when I have given Him everything I found a bigger capacity to love those around me.

HOW DO YOU KEEP THE FIRE BURNING?

The most important thing is the Word of God. For me it’s absolutely essential that I get that time with the Lord in the secret place. Simple things are very important like reading your Bible, praying, seeking God and putting Him first in every decision that you make.

HOW DO YOU SUCCESSFULLY JUGGLE BEING A MUM, WIFE, DAUGHTER AND PASTOR?

I had to come to a point where God was everything to me and I think if you want to have a good marriage, God has to be number one. When I got married I put everything into Steve and he would travel so much in the early years, as a wife I found that difficult at times but realised my confidence and trust had to be in God first.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT YOUR GIFT OF DREAMS/VISION?

As a child I would have dreams and visions. I would go into a building and think, ‘Have I’ve been here before’? I dream a lot and used to discard a lot. I think it’s something that needs to be taken seriously. Nowadays I dream, wake up and write it

down straight away. And later in the day, I will be prayerful and try and work out what God is saying prophetically.

WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF A WOMAN ON FIRE?

A Woman on Fire is someone fully surrendered to the Lord and full of the Holy Spirit. This is costly and a life long journey.

WHAT SHOULD WE EXPECT IN THIS UPCOMING ‘WOMEN ON FIRE’ CONFERENCE?

I think it’s an opportunity for fresh encounter with the Holy Spirit. I am very expectant, it’s going to be a fantastic day. It’s really about pouring into the ladies. I believe that women are going to be set free, filled with the Holy Spirit and empowered for God’s work.

Women, you need to be at this day. This is strictly for women by the way, no husbands!

FOR YEARS I STRUGGLED WITH A LOW SELF ESTEEM AND DEVELOPED AN EATING DISORDER AND LOST LOADS OF WEIGHT

We can carry this mind-set too when it comes to encountering God. You don’t want to be a ‘SnapChat’ Christian that gets passionate for God one minute, has a short-lived experience and then quickly changes back into old ways. Jesus doesn’t want experiences with you that are like the quickly fading memories of a SnapChat.

Instead, God wants revolutionary encounters with you that change the course of your life, God wants you to be Forever Changed!

However, there are things you need to do if you want to have these kind of encounters. Jeremiah 29:13 says that ‘You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart’.

This means that you need to have a heart that’s wide open for Jesus. God doesn’t want a heart that’s only open to Him in some areas of your life and full of ‘No Go’ areas to God in other parts.

Jesus wants be to no.1 in every part of your heart, in every part of your life. It’s always good to check this from time to time, to see if there’s anything that’s stealing God’s place in your heart. Are there other noises, distractions or relationships that are stealing the place Jesus wants to have in your life? We can even have things in our lives that are good in themselves, but mustn’t take over our love for Jesus.

Having a heart that’s wide open for God, makes it easier for you to experience God in a way that totally changes you.

JESUS DOESN’T WANT EXPERIENCES WITH YOU THAT ARE LIKE THE QUICKLY FADING MEMORIES OF A SNAPCHAT.

SNAPCHAT CHRISTIANS?

WHEN WAS THE LAST T IME YOU SENT A SNAPCHAT TO ONE OF YOUR MATES?

AFTER SENDING THE LATEST SNAP OF YOUR HOLIDAY, FRAPPUCCINO OR SILLY FACE IN CLASS THAT LASTED ONLY 10 SECONDS, DID YOU EVER STOP TO THINK THAT SO MANY THINGS WE SEE AND EXPERIENCE IN LIFE ARE SO SHORT-LIVED?

Page 11: Spotlight Magazine Spring 2015

SNAPCHAT CHRISTIANS?

Having fun with friends

But this isn’t an automatic, one-time even. It requires a daily decision to keep on running after God and asking Jesus to help you keep a focus on Him in the midst of the noise of this world.

Don’t be a SnapChat Christian that sees encountering God as a quick-snap, a short-lived event, but continually keep a heart wide open to God, running hard after Him and making Him no.1.

Get ready to be Forever Changed.

CHURCH FAMILY WALKING AND GATHERING FOR GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY

THE ‘GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY’ AT 1.30PM ON SUNDAY 19TH APRIL WAS A CELEBRATION OF WORK COMMENCING ON THE NEW BUILDING AND RAISING £350,000 OF THE FINANCE. IT WAS A CHANCE TO HONOUR THE PAST GENERATIONS: BROTHERS WATSON AND LOWE, ELDERS FOR MANY YEARS, REPRESENTED THE OLDER GENERATION THAT LEFT A SPIRITUAL LEGACY AS WELL AS THE 1980S BUILDING. THEY HELD THE RIBBON. YOUNG ISAIAH CUT THE RIBBON WITH A FLOURISH TO MARK THE GROUNDBREAKING, REPRESENTING THE RISING GENERATION.

It was a meaningful time, as Pastor Steve explained – we are not just building a facility but building spiritually together as a church family. It is not just a flexible and convenient meeting place but a space for future generations to encounter God and proclaim the gospel.

Steve and Esther laid the first bible into the new building foundations as a prophetic act to mark the occasion. This is the first of the 32 bibles that will be placed in the foundations of the new building ground.

Pastor Tony of Lifespring and Pastor Jonathan of Tabernacle Baptist joined in bringing greetings expressing the growing unity in the whole church in the city. And our guest of honour, Pastor David from Brooksville, FL prayed powerfully for the new 1,000 capacity facility and the release of faith and finance for the remaining £500,000 to complete the work.

We all know Bethel Music has been hitting our airwaves

with a magnificent frequency of special worship. We

will not be shaken is their latest live album recorded

on a mountaintop in California.

This has to be said though; their album encapsulates

the mountain experiences of worship.

You will need an extra pair of hands to worship

because believe it or not, all you will want to do is hand

lifting after listening. The track “No longer slaves” will

awaken buried hope and turn it into relentless faith.

You’ve got to hear it to believe it.

This is one of the best newly released worship albums

that we’ve been waiting for. If Bethel Music keeps

producing such fine work, all who worship will not be

shaken.

SPOTLIGHT RATING:

Let’s just say, Chris knows how to celebrate the

release of his 10th studio album. Tomlin has released

an epic album that leaves you speechless.

The album captures an amazing insight into the Word

of God; all throughout the album we hear strong

Biblical themes and ideas, drawing us to God’s heart.

“Psalm 100” and “At the Cross” proves that sweet

and sour definitely go together. These encompass a

very different and yet important parts of our worship

journey with God.

In spite of musical preferences, post a “do not

disturb” note on your door when you listen to the

album, as you’ll be caught up in God’s presence.

We all like to hear a true love story where we’re

touched to the heart, right? Well here’s one; “LOVE

RAN RED”.

280 powerful vocally untrained voices from

Brooklyn, New York bring us their live latest 14

tracked album Pray, which allows you to nod your

head continuously.

Don’t we love a bit of excitement in our lives? With

a bit of country and instruments like ukuleles, who

wouldn’t love such an album? All you have to do

is listen to the track “Praise Him” and you will be

looking for some cowboy boots and hat. Ladies you

are included too! You are not only going to dance

but, “Pray”!

This is one of those albums where you always sing,

tap and hum to it whenever it’s on. It’s a definitely

an album to add to your collection. Remember when

you need a bit of cheering up, Pray will deliver.

GOD ON MUTEPETE GREIG

This book is about prayer, especially

unanswered prayer. I began to read it

reluctantly because I would rather read

uplifting stories of miracles but I was

engaged very quickly. It is written from

his experience of the pain of his wife’s

serious illness and fight for life.

Pete reminds us of the verse in Romans

“God works for the good of all those

who love him, who have been called

according to his purpose” (8:28) and

develops a deep and helpful theological

understanding of what is prayer and

why some prayers seem unanswered.

It’s a book that can bring hope to

everyone. All of us have prayers that

seem unanswered. But we can walk with

the God who is right there with us in

both sorrow and joy.

SPOTLIGHT RATING:

ONE LIFESTEVE UPPAL

Life is a gift we have all been given.

Each of us only gets one shot at it – one

chance to make the most of it and to

make a difference in our world. God

has given us one life – how will you live

yours?

Steve Uppal contends that we must,

“Live it well, live it right and live it in the

light of eternity.” The issue is not how

long we live, but how well we live. Jesus

only lived to the age of 33, but during

His time on earth He fulfilled everything

He had been given by God to do – such

was His sense of purpose – and He split

history in half as a result.

This book unpacks the principles of

living a life of purpose. It helps us to

identify and understand our calling and

explains the difference between the

purpose that is true for all believers and

our individual, unique purpose in Christ.
