Inside Hofstra Basketball: Hofstra Basketball fans can now get an up-close look at the program with Inside Hofstra Basketball, hosted by Tom Pecora. Inside Hofstra Basketball is a half-hour show which will air every week on Fox Sports New York on Fridays at 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 a.m. The show will also air on College Sports Television (CSTV) every Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Earlier Meeting This Year (Hofstra 55, Drexel 53 - OT): Junior guard Antoine Agudio (Huntington Station, NY) scored 26 points as the Hofstra Men’s Basketball team prevailed 55-53 in overtime over Drexel on Jan. 11 at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Hofstra came up empty on its first three possessions of overtime, while Drexel junior forward Frank Elegar converted a lay-up and three of four foul shots to make the score 53-48. Agudio responded with a tough jumper in traffic while drawing a foul to make the score 53-51, then picked up a steal and fed Stokes for a lay-up with 1:38 left to even the score. After Hofstra earned a stop, senior guard Carlos Rivera (San German, PR) hit a rainbow jumper from the corner with the shot clock winding down to put Hofstra back in front with 36 seconds left. Dominick Mejia then missed twice in the final eight seconds, including a potential winning three-pointer just before the buzzer. The Pride led 47-43 at the two-minute mark, Mejia had a put-back basket with 1:45 left to pull the Dragons within 47-45. Agudio then drew a foul on an up-fake with 1:14 to go and made one of two to leave the Pride up 48-45, but Mejia was fouled in the act of shooting a three-pointer with 13 seconds left and made all three to tie the score. Senior guard Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY) then missed a 12-footer under pressure from Drexel senior guard Bashir Mason at the buzzer to force the game into overtime. Drexel led 21-20 lead into halftime, despite not making a single field goal over the final 13:32 of the first half. Agudio led the way with his 26 points, while Stokes added 13 and Rivera had nine, giving the Pride 48 of its 55 points from its three-man backcourt. Mejia led the way for Drexel with 21 points. Last Year At Hofstra (Hofstra 70, Drexel 68): Senior forward Adrian Uter celebrated Senior Day with 13 points and 11 rebounds as Hofstra held off a late Drexel rally to capture a 70-68 win in its regular season finale at Hofstra Arena. Hofstra took a 68-57 lead with 2:57 remaining on a three-pointer sophomore guard Antoine Agudio. However, Drexel responded with a 10-0 run and had four shots to take the lead in the final 30 seconds but were unable to convert. Mason missed the first shot, got his own rebound, and missed the follow-up. Sophomore forward Frank Elegar then came down with the offensive rebound, but missed a short jump hook, and Uter earned the defensive rebound when the Pride had the arrow on the held ball. Freshman guard Greg Johnson was then fouled on the inbounds pass and made both foul shots to put the Pride up 70-67 with 12 seconds left. The Pride fouled to prevent a tying three-point attempt with just under four seconds remaining, and Mejia made the first before missing the second on purpose. Drexel came down with the offensive rebound and kicked the ball out to Mason, who had an open look from 23 feet but left it short at the buzzer as the Pride held on for the win. Junior guard Loren Stokes led Hofstra with 20 points in 23 minutes, but was injured with 9:02 to play and did not return. Elegar led the Dragons with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Mason finished with 14.

Pride Among Nation’s Highest Scoring Backcourts: Hofstra’s three-man backcourt of senior Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY), junior Antoine Agudio (Huntington Station, NY) and senior Carlos Rivera (San German, PR) entered this season as the highest scoring three-man backcourt combination in the country returning from last year. The threesome averaged a combined 46.3 points per game last season, with Stokes averaging 17.4, Agudio right behind with 17.2 and Rivera chipping in with 11.7. The second-highest three-man backcourt in the nation coming into this season was Loyola (Illinois), which averaged a combined 43.2 points per game last year (Villanova’s top three guards last year averaged an even 50.0, but all three – Allan Ray, Randy Foye and Kyle Lowry - moved on to the NBA). This year, Hofstra’s trio has averaged a combined 52.1 points, with Stokes (20.9) and Agudio (20.3) once again neck-and-neck for the team lead, and Rivera (10.9) also in double figures. That combined 52,1 points per game average ranks Hofstra tops in the nation among three-guard combinations, two-tenths of a point behind New Orleans (51.9) through games of Monday, Feb. 5. Among two-guard combinations, meanwhile, Stokes and Agudio (41.2) rank first in the country, leading New Orleans (39.2) by two full points. In fact, Stokes and Agudio are the second-highest scoring set of teammates in the nation regardless of position, trailing only Virginia Military (48.9). VMI is also the only other school in the country with two 20-point scorers (forward Reggie Williams – 28.6 ppg - and guard Chavis Holmes – 20.3 ppg).

Stokes’ current streak in double figures dating back to last year is 33, while Agudio’s is 28. Agudio has scored in double figures in 82 of his 87 career games, while Stokes has been in double figures in 102 of the 108 games since becoming a starter (nine games into his freshman season). Stokes also has a streak of eight straight games of 20 or more points, dating back to the Pride’s first meeting with Drexel (13 points), the longest for a Hofstra player since Rich Laurel did it 25 times in a row in the 1976-77 season. In Guards We Trust: Hofstra has a combined 4,918 career points amongst its perimeter players (including 4,563 from Stokes, Agudio and Rivera). After losing graduated seniors Adrian Uter and Aurimas Kieza from last season’s team, Hofstra only has 350 career points from its post players.

Stokes Climbing The Hofstra Charts: Senior guard Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY) will end his career this year with his name prominently displayed in the Hofstra record books. He moved into fifth on the Pride’s all-time scoring list with his 30 points at Northeastern on Jan. 13. He is also in the top 10 in school history in assists (sixth) and steals (fifth) and should reach the top 15 in rebounds by season’s end as well. Stokes is the only player in school history with career totals of 1500 points, 600 rebounds and 300 assists.

Hofstra was 8-1 in February last year, continuing its recent trend of closing out the regular season on an upswing. The Pride was 7-1 in February in 2004-05, while also tallying a 6-2 record in February in 2003-04, giving it a 22-4 February record in the last four seasons.

The Pride has seen 12 of its first 24 games decided by five points or less (or in overtime), compiling a 9-3 record in those contests (including nine straight wins prior to a 72-68 loss to Delaware on Jan. 29). In the last two years, Hofstra is 15-4 in games decided by five or less (or in overtime), and is 18-4 in its last 22 games decided by five points or less (or in overtime), dating back to 2004-05.

Last Game Recap: (Hofstra 82, Northeastern 66): Senior guard Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY) scored 21 points, leaving him one point shy of 2,000 in his career, as Hofstra captured an 82-66 win over Northeastern on Saturday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd of 5,047 at the Mack Sports Complex. Stokes was joined in double figures by senior guard Carlos Rivera (San German, PR) with 21 and junior guard Antoine Agudio (Huntington Station, NY) with 19, giving the Pride 61 points from its three-man backcourt. Sophomore forward Mike Davis-Sabb anchored the frontcourt with seven points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Northeastern trailed 40-29 at the half, but scored the first five points of the second half to bring the score within 40-34. The Huskies had the lead down to six on two other occasions, the last coming with 7:39 to go when a three-pointer from Adrian Martinez cut the lead to 65-59. However, Stokes and Agudio each scored four points during an 8-1 run, as the Pride took a 73-60 lead to put the game away. Northeastern placed five players in double figures in the losing effort, led by 16 from freshman guard Matt Janning. Hofstra held a 37-27 advantage on the boards and turned the ball over only nine times, the third game in a row and the fourth in the last five that it has had less than 10 turnovers. Rivera added six assists, six rebounds and four steals to his 21 points. CAA Spoilers: The longest winning streak in the CAA this season is 10 games, shared by both Drexel (overlapping December and January) and VCU (during January). The one thing that both streaks have in common? They were both snapped by Hofstra. The Pride ended Drexel’s 10-game streak with a 55-53 overtime win at Drexel on Jan. 11, while Hofstra ended VCU’s 10-game streak on Jan. 31. Earning Overtime Pay: Hofstra and Drexel have played one overtime game in each of the last three seasons, with the road team winning each time after the Pride captured a 55-53 win on Jan. 11. Two years ago, the Dragons captured an 84-81 win at Hofstra Arena, while last year Hofstra earned a 76-75 win at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Overall, Hofstra is 14-2 in overtime games since 1990-91, with the Drexel game in 2004-05 accounting for one of the losses (at Manhattan this year was the other). Getting Better All The Time: Hofstra has improved its CAA record every season since joining the league in 2001-02, one year after winning an America East Conference championship in the 2000-01 season. That 2000-01 team had seven seniors on it, though, leaving Hofstra without a senior as it ventured into a new conference. The Pride’s first season in the CAA saw it finish tenth at 5-13, although it reached the semifinals of the CAA Tournament. The following year saw the Pride improve to 6-12 in league play (ninth place), and it is has since improved from fifth to fourth to third. This year, the Pride is currently in second at 11-2, giving it a solid chance to continue its streak again.

Home, Sweet Home: Hofstra’s win over Northeastern on Saturday was its 28th straight regular season home win, and 22nd straight CAA home win. The Pride had an overall 21-game home winning streak snapped in the NIT quarterfinals by Old Dominion last year, which was the second longest in the nation at the time behind Gonzaga. The Pride’s previous loss at Hofstra Arena was a 67-66 defeat – also to Old Dominion - way back on Jan. 19, 2005 (when the Pride missed a potential winning shot at the buzzer). Hofstra, though, also handed Old Dominion its only home loss in both 2004-05 and 2005-06. Hofstra is now 68-20 all-time at the renamed Mack Sports Complex (formerly Hofstra Arena) since the building opened on January 2, 2000. The Pride is also 84-20 in its last 103 overall home games, dating back to 1997-98 in the old Physical Fitness Center, where it won its final 16 games before it switched facilities. Second Half’s The Charm: Senior guard Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY) scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half against Northeastern on Saturday, continuing a trend which has been in evidence all season. Of Stokes’ 502 points this year, 305 have come after halftime (60.8 percent). Ironically, he has averaged a whopping 16.5 points after halftime in the Pride’s six losses (20 vs. Manhattan and Hawaii, 19 vs. Charlotte and Northeastern, 11 at Delaware, and 10 at Syracuse).

The 15 rebounds were the most for a Hofstra perimeter player since Norman Richardson had 16 against UNH in the 2000-01 season. It was Stokes’ second Player of the Week honor of the year, after also earning it on Nov. 27. He has now won the CAA Player of the Week award nine times in his career, to go along with two Rookie of the Weeks as a freshman. Junior guard Antoine Agudio (Huntington Station, NY) also earned Player of the Week on Jan. 2. It was the third time that Agudio has been named the Player of the Week in his career and his 11th weekly honor overall (including a CAA-record eight Rookies of the Week in 2004-05).

Ceremonies/Promotions: Hofstra will honor all of its student-athletes who earned a 3.0 or better during the fall semester at halftime. Big Men Step Up: Sophomore forward Chris Gadley (Amherst, NY) has helped provide some balance to the Pride’s backcourt scoring recently, averaging 7.1 points and 7.1 rebounds over the last 13 games. Sophomore forward Mike Davis-Sabb (Bronx, NY) added a career-high 13 rebounds in Saturday’s win over Northeastern, while helping contain the Huskies’ Bennet Davis on defense (11 points). Davis had 27 points and 11 boards in the first meeting with Hofstra on Jan. 13. Stokes Finalist For Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award: Senior guard Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY) was announced as one of the 30 finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award last week. The award is presented annually to an NCAA Division I male and female senior basketball player who excel both on and off the court. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award was launched during the 2001-02 season to honor the attributes of college basketball seniors who remain committed to their university and pursue the many rewards that a senior season can bring. Sestokas Joins Three-For-All: Hofstra entered the season knowing it had plenty of three-point weapons in its arsenal, led by all-time school record holder Antoine Agudio (Huntington Station, NY) and senior guard Carlos Rivera (San German, PR), who currently ranks fourth at Hofstra with 170 career threes. However, sophomore forward Zygis Sestokas (Vilnius, Lithuania) has stepped up this season to give the Pride yet another three-point weapon in its outside arsenal. Sestokas began the year with a career-high 16 points at Charlotte, then hit six three-pointers to break that mark with 18 points in a win at Alaska Anchorage. Sestokas has made just under 50 percent (51 of 104, .490) of his three-pointers this season, which leads the CAA. Rivera At The Charity Stripe: Senior guard Carlos Rivera (San German, PR) is on pace to have an historic season at the free throw line for Hofstra. Rivera is currently shooting just under 90 percent at the foul line on the year (82-95, .863). Hofstra has not had a player shoot 85 percent at the line for a season since Luke Murphy shot 88.7 percent in the 1985-86 campaign. The last player to shoot 80 percent for an entire season was Craig “Speedy” Claxton in 1998-99 (80.1 percent). Lester, Johnson Sign With Pride: Swingman Nathaniel Lester and power forward/center Dane Johnson, both natives of Brooklyn, New York., signed national letters of intent with Hofstra during the early signing period. Lester is considered by some recruiting analysts to be the top scholastic senior in New York City this year, after averaging 24.5 points per game at Canarsie High School as a junior during the 2005-06 season, while leading the team to the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) semifinals. He was an All-PSAL selection from the New York Post following his junior year. Johnson is a 6-10, 290-pound center, who is entering his second season at Mt. San Jacinto College. Johnson helped the Eagles to a 24-11 record and an appearance in the regional finals as a freshman last year. Johnson also attended Paul Robeson High School in Brooklyn, New York prior to enrolling at Mt. San Jacinto.

Pecora Closing In On 100 Wins: Hofstra Head Coach Tom Pecora won his 99th career game in the Pride’s victory over Northeastern on Saturday. His career record currently stands at 99-78 in his six years as the Hofstra Head Coach. After three seasons, his record stood at 34-56, but over the last three seasons, he has compiled a 65-22 mark (.744), including 21-9 in 2004-05 and 26-7 last year, to go along with the 18-6 mark so far this winter. With one more win, he will become the seventh coach in school history to record 100 victories. Butch van Breda Kolff holds the school record with 215 career wins, spanning two tenures from 1955-62 and again from 1988-1994 (see chart below).

Hofstra Defeats St. John’s For Holiday Festival Title: Junior guard and Tournament MVP Antoine Agudio (Huntington Station, NY) scored 24 points and senior guard Loren Stokes (Buffalo, NY) added 13 points, six assists and four steals as the Hofstra Men’s Basketball team captured the championship of the Aeropostale Holiday Festival with a 63-51 win over St. John’s on Dec. 29 at Madison Square Garden. St. John’s trailed 29-24 at the half, but used a 9-2 run, keyed by a pair of three-pointers from Eugene Lawrence to pull within 36-35 with 14:05 left. Hofstra answered the rally, though, with an 8-0 run as Stokes and Agudio each hit two foul shots around a pair of dunks from sophomore forward Chris Gadley (Amherst, NY) to give the Pride a 44-35 lead at the 10:06 mark. An Agudio three-pointer stretched the lead to 49-39 with 8:25 to go, and after the Red Storm got within 49-44, another Agudio three-pointer stretched the lead back to eight. After a St. John’s basket, senior guard Carlos Rivera (San German, PR) then scored on a back-door lay-up off a feed from Gadley and then hit a three-pointer from the top of the key to push the lead back to double figures. Hofstra was able to hold on for the win, pushing its lead to as many as 17 (63-46), before the Red Storm scored the final five points. After the Red Storm scored first, Hofstra used a 9-0 run to take an early 9-2 lead on a fast break lay-up from Stokes and never trailed again. The Pride stretched its lead up to as many as 10 points in the first half at 24-14 on an Agudio three-pointer from the left wing with 5:10 left in the half, before settling for a 29-24 lead at the break. Gadley had his second straight strong effort off the bench for the Pride, tallying eight points and seven rebounds. Lamont Hamilton led the way for the Red Storm with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Agudio was joined on the All-Tournament team by Stokes, who hit the game-winning jumper with 2.2 seconds left in a 65-63 win over Saint Joseph’s in the semifinals. Hofstra Wins Third Holiday Festival: The Pride earned the championship of the Aeropostale Holiday Festival on Dec. 28-29, continuing its storied history at the tournament. Hofstra won back to back championships in 1998 and 1999, and nearly captured a third straight title in 2000 before it fell in the title game to Penn State 74-71. The Pride is an impressive 10-2 in its last 12 games at Madison Square Garden, including 7-1 at the Holiday Festival during that stretch. All-time it has a 10-5 record at the World’s Most Famous Arena at the Division I level (see chart below).

Hofstra Joins Elite Company With Third Festival Title: With three Holiday Festival championships, the Pride is now in third place all-time for most titles in the 55-year history of the event, behind only St. John's (14) and Manhattan (4). St. John's, though, has made 41 appearances at the event and Manhattan has made 19, compared to only five for the Pride. The other schools with multiple titles include Kentucky, Providence, North Carolina State, Cincinnati, Ohio State, Duquesne and Penn.

Multiple Holiday Festival Championships:

St. John's - 14 (1958, 1964, 1972, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1991, 1996, 2004, 2005) Manhattan - 4 (1956, 1973, 2001, 2002) Hofstra - 3 (1998, 1999, 2006) Kentucky - 2 (1992, 1995) Providence - 2 (1965, 1966) North Carolina State - 2 (1980, 1989) Cincinnati - 2 (1959, 1961) Ohio State - 2 (1960, 1988) Duquesne - 2 (1953, 1954) Penn - 2 (1994, 2003) Hofstra Earns Fourth Straight Win Over St. John’s: Hofstra’s win over St. John’s in the Aeropostale Holiday Festival championship game was its fourth in a row over the Red Storm. St. John’s has long been known as the premier college basketball program in the New York metropolitan area, but the Pride has been able to perhaps steal the crown of late. St. John’s completely dominated the series in the 1900’s, winning all 19 meetings between the schools. In the 2000’s, though, the Pride has won five of the seven meetings, including the last four in a row (all four coming by double-digit margins). Hofstra first broke through in December of 2000, when it captured an 86-80 win at Nassau Coliseum. St. John’s bounced back to win the next two meetings, but Hofstra went into Alumni Hall in 2003-04 and came away with an 81-64 win, the second-worst loss that the Red Storm has ever suffered at its on-campus facility. The following year, St. John’s visited Hofstra for the first time in 30 years, and the Pride prevailed with a 78-68 win at Hofstra Arena in 2004-05 (in front of a sellout crowd). A year ago, Hofstra went into the renamed Carnesecca Arena and battled back from a 13-point halftime deficit to defeat St. John’s 64-51. The Pride held the Red Storm to only 11 second half points in that contest. A Rare Feat: Hofstra’s win over St. John’s on Dec. 29 marked the fourth year in a row that it has defeated the Red Storm. To find the last non-conference team to defeat St. John’s in four straight seasons, you have to go all the way back to 1961, when St. Louis capped off a streak of eight straight seasons with a win over St. John’s. The last Metropolitan New York-area team to win four straight against the most storied program in the city was Manhattan, which accomplished the feat from 1953-56. The only non-conference team with a longer winning streak since 1961 is Duke, which defeated St. John’s in five straight meetings, spanning from 1985-86 through the 1998-99 campaign. Only three of those wins came in consecutive years, though, including two consecutive NCAA Tournaments in 1990 and 1991, and a regular season meeting in the 1991-92 campaign.

Odds And Ends: Some strange, unusual, and sometimes relevant facts regarding the Hofstra Men’s Basketball program: Defense Tells The Story: Hofstra is 61-2 in the last 63 games (6-0 this year) when it has held its opponents to less than 60 points, after defeating Drexel 55-53 on Jan. 11. In a strange coincidence, both losses in that stretch have been in the Postseason NIT, a 53-44 loss to Saint Joseph’s in 2005 and a 58-45 loss to Rutgers in 1999. It almost happened again last year in the NIT, but Old Dominion hit enough foul shots in the final minute to capture a 61-51 win over the Pride in the NIT quarterfinals. Hofstra has won 72 regular season games in a row when holding opponents below 60. In addition, this year Hofstra is 15-0 when holding opponents below 70. Defense Tells The Story (Part II): Hofstra is giving up 79.7 points per game in its losses. In its wins, opponents score only 63.3 points per game, a difference of 16.4 points. Homewreckers: Hofstra won 21 straight home games over the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons before seeing the streak end with a loss to Old Dominion. The Pride’s last previous home loss was also to Old Dominion on Jan. 19, 2005. However, turnabout is fair play as Old Dominion compiled a 28-2 home record over the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. The team that gave it both home losses? Hofstra. Unlucky Seven: Hofstra has had five six-game win streaks in the last two seasons, but has lost the seventh game each time. Two years ago, though, the Pride had a nine-game win streak and a seven-game win streak to its credit. Beyond The Arc: Hofstra has made at least one three-pointer in 314 consecutive games, dating back to a loss at Boston University in 1996-97. Beyond The Arc (Part II): Hofstra is shooting 42.3 percent from three-point territory when it wins, while holding opponents to just 29.6 percent shooting. When it loses, Hofstra shoots just 33.3 percent from three, while opponents shoot 41.7 percent. Liking Their Odds: 1576 of the Pride’s 1739 points (90.6%) this season have been scored by odd-numbered players, including all 76 points in last a Jan. 24 win over Georgia State. Working Overtime: Hofstra is 14-2 in its last 16 overtime games, dating back to 1990-91, after defeating Drexel 55-53 on Jan. 11. I Guess He Knows The Rims: Senior guard Loren Stokes is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game at home. Away from home, he averages 4.8 boards. Saved By The Buzzer: Hofstra defeated St. Francis 67-64 on Dec. 12, when the Terriers missed a tying three-pointer at the buzzer. Over Pecora’s six seasons, opponents are 0-13 on meaningful (tying or winning) buzzer beaters, including his first three collegiate wins as a head coach in 2001-02 (against Florida Atlantic, Kent State and Illinois State). Hofstra has had game-winning three-pointers from Aurimas Kieza (vs. ODU last year) and Carlos Rivera (vs. Columbia in 2003-04), but overall Hofstra (2-16) and opponents (0-13) have combined to shoot 2-29 on meaningful buzzer-beaters in the Pecora Era. That figure does not count desperation shots beyond 25 feet. Feeling Green: Hofstra played its first six games of the 2006-07 season against teams with green as their primary color (Charlotte, Manhattan, Hawaii, Marshall, Alaska-Anchorage and Siena).

What They Are Saying…

“The backcourt of Loren Stokes, Antoine Agudio and Carlos Rivera is as good a trio as there is at this level.” – Andy Katz, ESPN.com “College basketball observers will undoubtedly be turning over every nook and cranny next season in search of the next George Mason. Hofstra, which returns all three of its standout guards, will be as good a candidate as any.” – Stewart Mandel, Sports Illustrated “Looking for the next mid-major school to make a splash on the national scene? Take a good look at the Hofstra Pride, who boast one of the best backcourts in the country.” – Mitchell Light, Athlon Sports “The best three-man backcourt you know nothing about -- Loren Stokes, Antoine Agudio and Carlos Rivera -- returns from a 26-win team.” – Gregg Doyel, CBS Sportsline “Tom Pecora has the top scoring returning backcourt in the country. Do-it-all guard Loren Stokes teams with sharpshooter Antoine Agudio and defensive-minded Carlos Rivera to provide scoring, defense and experience.” – Jay Bilas, ESPN.com “Pecora returns one of the top backcourts not only in the conference, but also in the country.” – Michael Litos, Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook “Coach Tom Pecora welcomes back one of the most exciting backcourts in the nation in his three-guard attack. The backcourt has the capability to send the Pride deep into March.” – Lindy’s College Basketball “The talk around Hempstead is that the Pride may have the best returning backcourt in the country.” – Athlon Sports Magazine “The guard trio of Stokes, Agudio, and Rivera combined to average 46.3 points per game. Granted, you might not take them over North Carolina’s best three guards or Marquette’s best three, but statistically, Hofstra’s trio is the best, and Pecora likes his chances moving forward with them.” – Gary Parrish, CBS Sportsline “Proud Pride fans aren’t just fancying their guard corps as the CAA’s best, they’re boastfully comparing their trio to high-major backcourt tandems such as those at Kansas and North Carolina. And if the squad lives up to its potential, much of the New York metropolitan area might come aboard for the feel-good ride.” – Kyle Whelliston, ESPN.com "If guards are the keys to basketball success, experienced guards allow coaches to smile all season. So count on Hofstra coach Tom Pecora to be doing some grinning. The Pride welcome back the nation's highest-scoring backcourt." - USA Today “The Pride put themselves on the map by building a critically acclaimed, three-winged backcourt from undervalued talent. Seniors Loren Stokes and Carlos Rivera and junior Antoine Agudio have become the nation's highest-scoring guard trio, averaging a combined 46.3 points per game, and are viewed as a serious threat for a Cinderella run in the NCAA tournament.” – Luke Winn, Sports Illustrated
