Welcome

Welcome to our first Sports Gala Evening. Our aim is to celebrate the talents of our sporting children and alumni. These are children and young people who are competing at county level or above and showing a huge commitment to their respective sports. In this Olympic year we are thrilled to be joined by special guests Adele Nicoll, Joanna Miri and Pete Cracknell who will be sharing their experiences of competing at National and World level with our young athletes. We are also joined by our Gamesmakers, These are children who have been chosen to represent their school at our forthcoming Olympic Carnival, our annual community event, which this year is focusing on health and fitness. The Gamesmakers have applied to take on this role and shown a commitment to helping the whole community to take part and enjoy our Olympic Carnival. Thank you to the parents who have come with their sporting children and no doubt spend many hours supporting their children to compete as they travel to competitions and matches, as well as training every week. At The Mead we hugely value the contribution made by parents to their children’s success, both in their academic work and extra curricicular activities. We hope you will enjoy the evening and celebration of all the children and their successes. Please do take the time to let us know what you thought of the evening by emailing us at [email protected]. Thanks to Trowbridge Rugby Club for their lovely venue and to Friends of the Mead for their support in making this event possible. •

Gamesmakers Every year The Mead hosts a community event – every fourth year this has a Health & Fitness theme. Its aim is to give children and adults a chance to try lots of different sports – we hope that they will find something they enjoy and maybe that they will excel at in the future. This year’s Olympic Carnival will take place on May 14th at the school with over 50 sports and activities for families to try – we have chosen Gamesmakers from The Mead and other schools to be ambassadors for the day and help host the event. Most of them are here this evening and we would like to welcome them into their new role.
