A Note from Michael Taubenslag, Theater Camp DirectorWhen I designed THEATER CAMP my main objective was to build children’s self-esteem while giving them a fun-filled summer that they’ll never forget. I am

proud to say that THEATER CAMP has been giving our campers the confidence to succeed in life for 30 years. Roles are provided for every child. No scripts are ever used. Every word the children say onstage is what I tell them to say – and if they forget their line – my counselors and I encourage them to make up a new one! Our unique teaching methodology stems from our motto, “When you try your best, you can do anything!” As the summer progresses, our campers realize when they do TRY their best, they really CAN accomplish anything.

TESTIMONIALS:Michael and the counselors are terrific with the kids! I am very impressed with the way they keep so many kids well behaved and at the same time so involved and excited! Anyone who has seen a production cannot believe how such a show can be pulled together in less than a week. More important than that, however, is the comradery between the children and counselors.- Hallie G.

My friend told me a story about this young boy who was in a school play recently. He’s very cute, shy and not at all forward. Apparently, he was the hit of play and everyone was surprised! She said after the play everyone wanted to know how he pulled it off and the father said all the credit needs to go to the Theater Camp at Middlesex County College and Michael. He sent him last year to help him over his shyness and to gain confidence in himself, apparently, it worked.- Gail I.

Thank you for giving Alana the best summer of her life. I’ve never seen her enjoy a camp experience like she did this one! You do an unbelievable job with the kids. My husband and I were so impressed.- Donna & Peter P.

Each year we receive countless letters and thank you notes as a testament to our campers’ success. If you’d like to read some of these great testimonials visit www.taubenslagproductions.com and click on the “Theater Camp” page.

Tech Option (Available Sessions I & II only)(6th, 7th, 8th & 9th graders)Instead of rehearsing and performing in the weekly shows, we also offer campers in 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grades the option to participate in “Tech”. From 9 a.m.-Noon, Tech campers build sets, paint scenery, organize props, and sew and design costumes. During performances, Tech campers function as the stage crew, making sure that sets, scenery, props and costumes are in place. This is an option that requires maturity and the ability to follow direction – perfect for learning what a crew does to make each theatrical performance a success.

Teen Scenes Option (Available Sessions I & II only)(8th, 9th & 10th graders)Teenagers at THEATER CAMP have the option to perform in the Main Stage musicals every week or join Teen Scenes. They will rehearse with their peers for 3 weeks, learn more advanced theater and acting techniques, work with scripts, and present a special Teen Scenes production at the end of that 3-week session. Teenagers who choose not to perform will work as Production Crew – building and painting scenery, operation of the spotlights and sound boards, and Stage Managing the Teen Scenes production.

Camp Trip to Broadway! (Session III only)For full-day campers, Session III provides a chance to experience the thrill of seeing a professional show in NYC; some for the very first time! THEATER CAMPERS will take a field trip on the last Wednesday of Session 3 to see a Broadway show. Shows being considered for our trip this year include: Aladdin, The Lion King, Frozen, Wicked, Tootsie, Kiss Me Kate and Beetlejuice.

Fantastic FridaysFridays are truly fantastic at THEATER CAMP! First, our campers perform for a packed audience on the Main Stage of the MCC Performing Arts Center. Two shows are held every Friday; at 9:30 am and 11 am. After lunch, full-day campers take a quick dip in the pool and then there’s always a fun-filled cast party to celebrate the performance and cap off the week’s activities. Cast parties are complete with current music, lights, group dances and contests with fabulous prizes. Each week the cast party is themed, such as rock star day, Halloween dance, pajama party, dress as your favorite superhero, beach bash party and even a THEATER CAMP prom. It all adds up to a summer full of excitement and fun.
