Year 11 students had a great time on work
experience in the week beginning 3rd July.
Students went to many different organisations for
a week including Nightingale Academy Farm,
M&S Clapham South, local primary schools, an
opticians, the Co-Op, the Government’s Legal
Department and British Airways. Feedback from
both students and employers about the
placements has been very positive and our pupils
gained valuable experience and life skills.

On Thursday 22nd June, Sixth Form students
organised a Sports Achievement afternoon for the
whole school. Games included wheelbarrow
racing, skipping, egg and spoon race and a tug of
war. Forest, Sky and Sun House were in fierce
competition but overall, Sky House won!

RE Focus Day: Sikhism This term’s RE Focus Day was Sikhism. Each lesson
concentrated on different aspects of the religion
and a group of students even went to visit the Khalsa
Centre in Tooting. Photos of student’s work relating
to the RE focus day can be found on SeeSaw. You can
download SeeSaw to your smart phone or iPad by
visiting the app store. Our RE Focus day next term
will be Hinduism on 5th October 2017.

ITV News Did you see us on the News? Year 8 and 9 pupils
have been working with elderly residents from
neighbouring Nightingale House on a weekly
basis since April, teaching British Sign Language
(BSL) and creating shared drawings as part of the
intergenerational project. This fantastic project
was covered by ITV News and The Guardian. You
can read the article and watch the clip on our
website at www.oaklodge.wandsworth.sch.uk
under the News & Events tab.
TfL STARS Award
Creative Art Exhibition Well done to the GCSE Art students and those in TWI who
displayed their art work as part of the Identity Art
Exhibition. The show included art and video creations in
response to last year’s Alberto Giacometti exhibition (a
project led by the National Portrait Gallery).
We’re so pleased to have earned
the Bronze Award from Transport
for London’s STARS Accreditation
scheme. To achieve bronze,
students undertook a number of
travel activities including using
public transport for school trips
and learning about road safety.
OLS Leavers’ Prom For the first time ever, Oak Lodge hosted a
school Prom for Year 11 students and the Sixth
Form. The Prom was a great way for those
leaving at the end of this year to celebrate all the
fun they have had at school and all the
memories they have made. Students spent the
last term planning and organising the event with
TA Serafina who worked very hard to make sure
everything went smoothly on the night. Some
pupils chose to arrive early to have their hair and
make-up done by a professional stylist before
arriving to the beautifully decorated hall for
music, dancing and food. The evening was a
great success as was the Roots and Wings
ceremony held earlier in the day which
celebrated our leaver’s achievements as school.

Fundraising for Oak Lodge
Sporting Achievements
This term our students took part in a number of
sporting challenges including the Panathlon
London Plate Final, the Panathlon Deaf/Hard of
Hearing Football and Rock Climbing Day and the
swimming Para Gala and Athletics competitions
for the London Youth Games.
We had several fundraisers this term to raise money for Oak Lodge
including the annual Nightingale Walk, the 5K Colour Run and the 5K
Battersea Park Run. All money raised by staff, students and friends
of the school will go back into the school fund for future projects. A
big thank you to all who took part in this term’s fundraising efforts.
Eat Well, Move Well, Live Well Thank you to all who collected Active Vouchers from their Sainsbury’s shop
for us. Together, you managed to raise enough vouchers to buy outdoor
sensory equipment including an outdoor tepee, coloured Jamanga tower and
an ankle skip. Regardless of ability or impairment, Sainsbury’s Active Kids
believes that every young person should be able to lead an active lifestyle.
Staff raised over £370 on behalf of Oak Lodge by taking part in the 2017
5K Colour Run in Wembley. Group E designed a very creative outfit for
SaL Therapist and event organiser Alanna to wear - which she wore with
pride! A big thank you to all those who raised money for the day
including Ms Day who provided lots of cake and lots and lots of pennies
for the copper trail and Mr Golowacz and Ms Moore who baked lots of
yummy cakes. Congrats to Sky House for raising the most in the copper
trail. They will receive 10 merits each and a chocolate.
It was planned that all money was supposed to go back into the school
however after recent events which have hit the UK, £200 will be donated
in Oak Lodge School’s name to the British Red Cross who are supporting
all those affected by Westminster Bridge, Manchester Arena, London
Bridge and Glenfell Tower. Of the remainder, £70 will go towards staff
projects and £100 to create an AAC budget for students.
Special mention to Luke Newman and Aya Agram who both made and
brought in cake to sell at the cake sale. What a big contribution to school
life and initiative. It is vital for students and their families to get involved
in school life and support projects like this.
