SPONSORSHIP PACKET
2020 Vision: A brighter future
On Saturday, February 8, 2020, Provident Behavioral Health is hosting the annual
Spirit of Provident Gala at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Louis. This year we celebrate 160 years
of history, and open a new chapter as we join with Mary Ryder Home and its 90 years of
compassionate care. Provident Behavioral Health and Mary Ryder Home have served St.
Louis’ most vulnerable and underserved for a combined 250 years. At the Spirit of
Provident Gala we will reflect on our histories, present accomplishments and look
together towards a brighter future of serving our St. Louis community over the next 250
years.
We anticipate nearly 500 guests to join us on February 8th. These community leaders and
friends are advocates for behavioral health through all stages of life – from childhood
through adulthood to golden years. Philanthropic support is essential to sustain the
programs and services Provident and Mary Ryder Home bring to our community.
Together our passion and dedication brings hope to those struggling through behavioral
health challenges. Your sponsorship will help ensure that there is a brighter future
for those in need.
Thank you for your consideration!
Why should I sponsor this event?
Your sponsorship will have a lasting impact on the people we serve.
This is our largest fundraising event of the year, with a goal of raising over $400,000 to help our
community. Gifts to this event provide critical funds for mental health and social services, including:
afterschool programs; individual and group counseling; 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention;
senior health, wellness and enrichment programs; and community education and advocacy programs.
The evening will begin with cocktails and auction, followed by entertainment, fund-a-need, dinner, award
presentation, live auction and a post-party. We are delighted to announce Lawrence E. (Larry)
Thomas, Partner at Edward Jones, as the recipient of 2020 Spirit of Provident Award. Larry served
as Provident Board Chair for 2017 and 2018 and is passionate about serving the St. Louis community. He
has been with Edward Jones since 1977, and serves on the Board for the Barnes-Jewish Hospital
Foundation, Forest Park Forever, the St. Louis Zoo, United Way, and Washington University.
Funds raised will allow us to continue our mission of building brighter futures through exceptional
behavioral health services and will support our most pressing needs:
Last year Provident Behavioral Health and Mary Ryder Home’s programs touched the lives of
80,705 clients ranging in age from 3 to 84. Of these clients, 64% reported a household income of
less than $30,000. With the support of the community, we are able to provide our services at little
to no cost to those who otherwise could not afford to seek help. We keep our doors open
regardless of someone’s inability to pay.
Provident’s 24/7 crisis hotlines received 64,258 calls in 2018, and 33% of individual callers were
suicidal. Every call to our hotlines is free to those in need. We estimate that each call costs $20.06
and the state of Missouri reimburses only 20¢ per call. We know that every call we answer is a
chance to change or save a life. We believe nothing is more precious than a life.
In 2018, 788 children between the ages of 5 and 14 participated in our Afterschool Program. We
support their mental well-being by offering academic support, STEM lessons, a hot meal,
recreation activities and field trips. We help them understand their vital role in their communities.
We keep kids safe and mentally healthy.
Strongly committed to nourishing the lives of low-income senior women, Mary Ryder Home joins
Provident’s programing. In 2018, 63 women received secure housing and supportive services
including medication coverage, nutritious meals and social enrichment activities at Mary Ryder
Home. We enhance seniors’ quality of life through compassionate care.
Provident offers mental health counseling to thousands of individuals in offices, schools, homes
and soon at Mary Ryder Home. In 2019 Provident launched same-day counseling services at our
midtown location. For $5, individuals, couples and families with financial and accessibility barriers
can now receive much needed help and support. We provide the necessary skills for making
significant life changes.
