LAUNCHED IN JULY 2011, THE MISSION OF THE ADÄKA CULTURAL FESTIVAL IS TO DEVELOP AND DELIVER A WORLD-CLASS, ICONIC FESTIVAL THAT SHOWCASES, CELEBRATES, AND FOSTERS THE DEVELOPMENT OF YUKON’S DIVERSE AND DISTINCTIVE FIRST NATIONS ARTS AND CULTURE.

A SNAPSHOT OF THE 2015 FESTIVAL

Held from June 26–July 2, 2015 at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse, this spectacular gathering includes artists and performers from all 14 Yukon First Nations along with national and international Aboriginal guest artists.

For 7 days, participants engage in inspiring opportunities highlighting collaboration, skill development, and mentorship. With its incredible energy, the Adäka Cultural Festival is instilling pride in communities and helping to create a healthy and cultural vibrant Yukon!

ARTISTS STUDIO VILLAGE Connect with the cultural community as you observe and interact with visual artists as they transform raw materials into beautiful works of art. Program will include demonstrations by 60+ visual artists practicing traditional and contemporary art and craft.

PLATINUM PROGRAMS“O’CANADA” DAY FESTIVITIES Join us in celebrating Canada’s birthday Adäka style! Featuring a full day of fiddling, square dancing, a jigging contest, an old time dance and special guest performers on the Main Stage. Topped off with kids activities, and much more!

CARRYING FORWARD OUR CHERISHED TRADITIONS PROJECT A collaborative gathering of master artists from Yukon, NWT, BC, and United States! This 7-day featured project will be a landmark event for Master Artists working with beading, tufting and quill, who will share ideas, inspiration, and knowledge through forums, a special exhibition, and studio time during the week of Adäka.

ADÄKA FASHION SHOW The second biennial fashion show will feature a fusion of traditional and contemporary fashions from across the North and beyond. From traditional bush garments and dance regalia to contemporary designs!

SHARING OUR SPIRIT CELEBRATION Host a traditional lunchtime community feast followed by a full afternoon of performances, by over 150 First Nations traditional drummers and dancers from all corners of the Yukon and beyond. The day will culminate with a powerful community-drumming circle held alongside the banks of the Yukon River. This event is one of our most popular and brings people of all ages and cultures together.
