Director, School of Petroleum ManagementPandit Deendayal Petroleum University

As petroleum industry is on its threshold in India; and the

need for petro technicians and petro managers is rising

exponentially, we at the School of Petroleum

    Management (SPM), Pandit Deendayal Petroleum

University, Raisan (Gandhinagar), Gujarat envisaged theincreasing needs for well-trained petro managers and

started the Masters in Business Administration

programme with a focus on energy sector in general and

hydrocarbon in specific. First two batches of petro

managers that we graduated from SPM got full placement,

which is evidence that the industry needs trained petro

    managers.

We at SPM recognize that a professional programme in

management at postgraduate level must equip students

with clear concepts in every functional area of

management. Understanding of unique nature of

hydrocarbon industry and associated eco-political issues,

and exposure to real life industry practices are equally

important for a successful managerial career. Along with

knowledge and understanding of industry, one would also

need several soft skills. The curriculum at SPM are

carefully designed and delivered to impart conceptualknowledge, provide in-depth understanding of industry,

and enhance soft skills capabilities. Full-time residential

requirement and two years of engaging co-curricular and

extra-curricular activities also add value to the

    personality development of our students.

Our dedicated team of full-time faculty members - who

are actively engaged in case writing, research and

publication - takes deep interest in s haping young minds.

We are fortunate to receive great support from the

industry. Experienced industry managers volunteer in

large number to help us in admission of students,

designing curriculum, course development, teaching and

    case writing.

Fast growing library with large number of books, journals

and other resources, physical and online, satisfy our

students thrust for knowledge. Computer lab and otherphysical facilities on our campus provide a backbone for

creating a healthy and convenient learning environment

for teachers and students. Modern hotel, sports and other

facilities make campus life quite liveable, enjoyable and

interactive, all conducive to learning and enriching

    experience.

If you want to pursue a lucrative management career in

the fast growing energy sector the School of Petroleum

Management of PDPU is one option that, I am sure, you

would consider very seriously. You are welcome to visit

our website and also our campus.5

The Business School was first established

as the Institute of Petroleum Management,

Gandhinagar (IPMG) in 2006, by GERMI (Gujarat

    Energy Research and Management Institute),

which in turn was established as a trust and

a society by GSPC (Gujarat State Petroleum

    Corporation), a Government of Gujarat

undertaking. Subsequently, when GERMIestablished Pandit Deendayal Petroleum

University, IPMG became the constituent of

PDPU and changed the name to School of

Petroleum Management (SPM). GSPC is a

success story in the petroleum sector in India

and is globally recognised for its impeccable

    performance record.

School of Petroleum Management has taken

up a challenging task of preparing managerial

manpower for the Oil & Gas sector, focused on

the entire value chai n of the pet roleum sector. To

meet this challenge, SPM aims to become a

    premier institution with state-of-the-art facilities,

    providing world class education, training,

research, consultancy and outreach services in

the areas of hydrocarbon and energy sector.

In the academic endeavour, SPM offersseveral programmes which includes a two-year

    residential MBA programme, a doctoral

    programme in management, a Post-Graduate

    Diploma in Petroleum Management for

    Executives, and soon-to-be-introduced a fifteen-

    month full-time residential Executive MBA

programme; all focusing on the energy sector in

general and oil and gas sector in part icular.

Petroleum sector being a global sector in nature

and in spectrum of operations, SPM has

designed its programmes and delivery methods

very carefully with the help of industry experts

    and enthusiastic academicians. The curricular,

    SCHOOL OF PETROLEUM MANAGEMENT

    co-curricular and extra-curricular activities as

well as the campus experience of students are

carefully planned to prepare future Petro-

Managers who can meet the challenges of oil

    and natural gas industry.

The flagship 2-year MBA programme focused

on Oil and Gas sector has rigorous curriculum,

    industrial training and industry study

    components supported by lecture series,

workshops and projects. The MBA programme

lays a solid foundation with fundamental courses

in economics, maths and communication; and

with functional courses in accounting, finance,

    marketing, operations, human resource

    management, organisational behaviour and IT.

    Though these fundamental and functional

courses are generic in nature, they are delivered

to make them relevant to the energy sector.

There are quite a few specially designed

industry-specific elective courses also that form

the part of curriculum. Some elective courses

include Logistics in Oil and Gas, Project

Management, Accounting and Taxation Issues in

Oil & Gas Sector, Financial Issues in Energy

Sector, Oil & Gas Laws, Marketing of Petroleum,Oil and Lubricants to mention a few. These

courses bring global perspective, as the oil and

natural gas industry is global in nature.

The MBA Programme is organized on the basis

of three ter ms in a year and spread over two

years in six trimesters, with an intensive

industrial training in the summer after the first

year. The GSPC group, being a promoter

organization of SPM, has committed the

    requisite infrastructure, livewire practical-

learning environment and intellectual capital to

the budding oil & gas sector management

    professionals at SPM.

GANDHINAGAR - An Ideal setting for Learning & Knowledge

PDPU is spread over an impressive campus of about 100 acres and offers necessary infrastructure for a

world class institute. Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat and a well-planned city has a generous

provision for extensive plantations and a large recreation area along the river, giving the city a lush green

    garden-city atmosphere.

    Students

Students of SPM come from diverse

backgrounds, which help them to examine

managerial issues of the Oil & Gas sector from

    multiple perspectives. In addition, an

environment, conducive to new ideas and
