Bernus regards antimony as "one of the most comprehensive drug products for humans in the past, the present and the future". – The fine matter of antimony and sodium nitrate is freed from the toxic coarse matter by ethanol distillation. – The distillate is also a component of Nr. Potassium carbonate from vine wood ash and wine stone (kalium bitartaricum) Bernus on spagyric potassium carbonate: » All of its derivatives [those of the grapevine] are employed for the application: tartaric acid, wine stone or wine stone salt and the salt of the vine wood burnt to ashes and alkalized: Sal Tartari (potassium carbonate). It is a powerful spleen remedy and very effective against every type of lithiasis, has a powerful purging effect and frees mucus congestion. According to Paracelsus, it remedies all so-called "tartaric maladies".
