No matter what theme your Splashathon class are going with, there are plenty of simple costumes you can put together for you and your little one that won’t break

the bank. Here are a few of our favourites…

BlackbeardStripey top

Old trousers

Bandana

Face paint for beard

String and black card for eyepatch

Difficulty rating: 2/5

Wear the bandana across your forehead, tying it at

the back of your neck. Cut an eyepatch shape out

of black card and make two holes in

it so you can tie it on with string. Then just cut

triangles out the bottom of old trousers, paint on

a beard and you’re ready to walk the plank!

Fairytale PrincessSheet of plastic

Tinsel

Ribbon

Sparkly dress

Extra touch plastic frog

Difficulty rating: 3/5

Your little one may well already have their own

princess costume already. If not, a fairytale princess

hat can be made by rolling a sheet of plastic into a

cone and taping it, stapling tinsel around the edge

and attaching ribbon from the top of the hat. For

the real fairytale edge, why not stitch a plastic frog

to the shoulder for your most sparkly dress?

ClownWhite T-shirt

Buttons or small pom-poms

Braces

Brightly coloured tutu

Face paint

Difficulty rating: 3/5

Depending on how adventurous you’re feeling you

can either buy a tutu or make your own by layering

netting on a skirt and sewing it. Sew the coloured

buttons (small pom-poms will be safer if you’re

making this for a baby) down the front of the

white top. Add the braces and then go wild as you

like with the face paint!

Superhero Square piece of plain coloured material

e.g. a pillow case

Piece of card

Piece of elastic

Difficulty rating: 3/5

Cut out an eye mask from the card and thread

with elastic to make your super hero mask. Cut

out a large S from the card and glue to the

material to make the cape. Attach the cape to

your swim suit by tucking it under the straps

and securing. Go and save some babies’ lives!

Two small triangles painted pink

One section of the bottom of an egg box painted pink

Piece of elastic

Difficulty rating: 2/5

Stick the two triangles to the head band for Peppa’s

ears. Thread the elastic through the egg box

section and pop over your nose for Peppa’s snout.

Start jumping in muddy puddles!

Don’t feel you have to stick to these, if you have an idea for a wild and wonderful costume that fits into the theme do go ahead and be creative! Just two rules to follow: no glitter or painted items (they don’t mix well with pool water!).
